I don't know if it is because they just don't have enough info. to feel comfortable to purchase and plant the right one for their garden? I see A LOT of landscapes with none... and I'm in Oregon! Massive nursey, thanks for calling out the zones. I'm in zone 6 and have had good luck with "Dynamite" Crape Myrtles in my garden.
Yes, it's a good one for sure.
Do yours grow as a shrub? I'm in zone 6 also and while pretty they die all the way back in winter.

Wow! The video is awesome! It’s obvious how well run the business is by the care of the trees. I’m from the Midwest and Oaks equal two things.... shade in the summer and leaf cleanup in the fall. Please do a video on Bradford Pear trees so we can be more informed on the negative impact of growing that variety. Thanks Jim.

I have a 6ish year old Live oak here in Tulsa Ok. A nursery here has a couple massive live oaks that have been here for 50+ years.
They are amazing.

Please do a video on the black diamond crepe myrtle's and the other dark foliage types. They are spectacular and people need to know about them. I've added 2 delta jazz dark foliage this year and will be adding others. They really make you look at crepe myrtle's in a totally different light

@@JimPutnam I will dig deep. I've just found the dark foliage crepes and am in love. I have what I believe to be a natchez from a root spring up from my last place as a center piece on my front yard. It's about 4ft right now on its third year. I'm training it as of this year. I'll be incorporating the dark foliage in multiple places for a pop throughout the yard. Love your channel, you've introduced me to many pants and I'll be incorporating them soon!
How do they keep them from falling over? They aren’t tied down right?
I had a beautiful three trunk river birch but Hurricane Florence took it in 2018.
Being in the south, it seems we all have the hurricane tree stories.
Awesome tour Jim- I planted one of the Tulip trees last year. I'm not sure what variety it was. It was about 3' tall with maybe a 1/2'" caliper on it. This year its 8' tall with a good 1.5" on it. I have never seen them before in my area (North Texas) so interested in feedback on them.
I totally get this is a nursery and a factory style business I’m not hating. It’s so sad to see how bare the land is for how many trees there are lol. It would be cool to see if it’s possible to do this while trying to give back to the earth. Mulch natural ground covers and what not. It’s definitely a beautiful nursery though.
Is there no wind there?
Do you know how they protect all those trees in the winter?
How do they keep the trees from blowing over?
I know each species grows at a different rate but how long have some of these trees been growing. The tall cypress for example. Started from seed or cutting. On what rootstock. I just started a bunch of splitrock camaciperis (I know I spelled that wrong). I successfully have sprouts but they are so tiny. It's going to be a 20 year investment to get anything as big as those.

Jim, can you explain how to make the baby gem magnolias to become bushy or fuller looking? I have 3 but they look leggy and definitely not as full as the ones you showed.
You must have too much shade or too little water.
Thank you for the video! I love planting tree's. Why did you say that about flowering pear? They have 3 season interest right? Out here in California I see a lot of evergreen flowering pear tree's.
It has become a terrible noxious weed.

Sacramento is full of old "bradford pear" trees.
They give off a strong scent...
They are known as "cum trees" out here.
I would like to put a dwarf crab apple tree in my small front yard with southern exposure. What do you think? As a specimen tree.

Jim, why do you dislike the Bradford Pear tree??? They are beautiful trees!
They are perhaps the worst noxious weed ever. They have crossed and created a weed that is taking over some places in the country. Read about it. It is actually shocking
They reseed everywhere. The nearby forest is white with them in the spring. These feral trees smother other plants.
I’m always pulling volunteer plants from my shrub borders.
They stink when in bloom, of freshly gutted fish.
They don’t hold up in storms. The mature ones split down the middle.
And they sucker like crazy.

Not just a pest, but after 15+ years of growing it to provide significant shade, a wind storm takes out half of it. Poor branch structure.
They are really weak trees. Overland Park Ks if filled with them and they are always splitting during storms and so overused.
