How anyone could trust a car to drive itself is beyond me. I'm barely able to trust my alarm clock to wake me up if I have something important to do in the morning. Not the first time I've heard about people getting killed letting the car drive itself.
Problem with most non survivable accidents was because of idiots who would have been better off with "self driving" technologies. I doubt you'd be saying the same thing if a close family member or anyone close was ended by a distracted or intoxicated driver. As a trucker I'd never trust a self driving truck but at the same time I believe self driving technologies may one day be 200% safer than "most" drivers although those of us who are actually "responsibly safe" drivers "few and wide" no amount of technology truly beats a real safe/defensive driver who never text and drive or drink etc. The person in this horrible accident had it coming self driving or not and is just one of thousands of self made victims every year via phone while driving = possibly ending yourself or someone else. Im a former race car driver. I refuse to use cruise control or auto pilot. I dont fully trust the computer. Be in control of your vehicle at all times and your surroundings. Only play video games if your not the driver.
While playing video games while driving is absolutely idiotic, the main criticism of the NTSB's report on this accident to Tesla was that the name, marketing and ui of "autopilot" was misleading. This guy being a software engineer, you'd think he would have been smart enough to understand it's not a true autopilot, especially in 2018, but you can't fix stupid. You can fix misleading marketing though.

Yes, but the automatic operator dumbs down the people who are backup. Drivers get dumber with each new technology that does something for them (how many forget to turn ON headlights because of DSLs? But remember, they are fixing them all over the district and a spot like that would likely be only accessible at night. So, 11 days is not out of line for a repair. I would think that some temporary measure would have been placed (water filled barrier, yellow sand drums, etc.) there, but this is not going to afford the same protection as the permanent solution. So, you have to schedule major lane closures along with the repair crew and make a nighttime shift change for the crews. This also assumes they have all the necessary parts due to the wide variety of these devices that have developed over the years. One last thing, states are normally limited to a very small amount of liability in such cases. My state has a $300,000 cap by statute. Great work on the vid!!!

i use FSD all the time, it cannot do things like unprotected left turns but it never ever comes close to hitting parked cars. Note that this is not "full" serf drivng, it is assisted driiving that hellps you drive like 95% of the time. You still have to pay attention

I can promise you there are mistakes in GPS maps and locations. I know of several in my area of south central Virginia. These lead to accidents all the time by drivers blindly following GPS. The intersection of the beginning of US I85 in Petersburg, Va is one. Beware drivers.

Maybe I'm strange because I don't even like messing with my phone when I'm a passenger because sometimes the driver can get distracted so it's like I'm trying to be a copilot. I’ve seen videos of people sleeping in Teslas on long road trips with these self driving features. I remember Uber got sued when they were using driverless cars picking up passengers. Those sensors go bad and caused so many accidents. If I don’t see someone driving a car I’m not getting in .

A local dr walking her dogs was hit and died by someone driving a tesla on autopilot and checking their emails. They didn’t even know they hit anything. Its still an ongoing investigation, but who in their right mind would drive on autopilot and not even pay attention to whats around you?
i only use autopilot/fsd in the 3rd or middle lanes. You should know that in Los Angeles freeways there are many unconventional roads and concrete barriers in your way
Poor engineering and poor management is to blame for the attenuator issue. This is a necessary single-use safety device. Once triggered it must be immediately repaired before road re-opening OR the road can be re-opened with a reduced speed zone until repairs are complete. This is basic management stuff. I agree with a lot of these comments. Yes he should have been paying attention but if Tesla has a self driving feature and it fails on you and steers you into a wall wouldn’t Tesla be technically responsible for his death? I’ve seen videos of people sleeping in Teslas on long road trips with these self driving features. I remember Uber got sued when they were using driverless cars picking up passengers. Those sensors go bad and caused so many accidents. If I don’t see someone driving a car I’m not getting in .
Well if the car would be on full self driving and not Level2 then yes tesla would be responsible. Since this crash was 6 years ago and was not on "self driving", this was just autosteer following lanes.

I lost a drone when a chopper flew too close to it. It just flew away i couldn't control it and it just disappeared. DOT is responsible.

A local dr walking her dogs was hit and died by someone driving a tesla on autopilot and checking their emails. They didn’t even know they hit anything. Its still an ongoing investigation, but who in their right mind would drive on autopilot and not even pay attention to whats around you?
Some other Tesla probably crashed into barrier days earlier.

i only use autopilot/fsd in the 3rd or middle lanes. You should know that in Los Angeles freeways there are many unconventional roads and concrete barriers in your way

Poor engineering and poor management is to blame for the attenuator issue.
This is a necessary single-use safety device. Once triggered it must be immediately repaired before road re-opening OR the road can be re-opened with a reduced speed zone until repairs are complete.
