I LOVE PTA films but Licorice Pizza was such a disappointment. The trailer is so much more entertaining that the 2 plus hours of this meandering (not even in a good PTA way) movie. There's no narrative connection to the scenes so its very messy and slapped together. The editing could have been better. Hoffman and Haim are solid actors but other than Alana, there is little depth to any characters. Penn and Cooper make cameo's but their scenes could have been cut to make room for more back story to Gary and his family/friends. It's as if the Cooper and Penn asked PTA if they could be in the movie and he did them a favor and squeezed them in...both of their characters could have had PTA movies based on them alone. You'll notice watching the trailers and then the movie that some scenes did not make the final cut. I did enjoy the cinematography as a kid who grew up in SoCal in the 70s and 80s AND John C. Reilly was great as Herman Munster. Also the fact that Alana falls in love with a 16 year old is very odd regardless of this taking place in 1973 or the fact that PTA once saw a kid hit on an older woman years ago. The age gap stayed in my mind the whole time. All the hype and 5 star ratings are a bit much. A total misfire.
I see what you mean but I must say, I do disagree. I was so incredibly hyped, and I watched the trailer constantly almost a few times every single day haha, and the film did feel a lot less hype than what was stated. A lot of people claimed this to be a movie where they felt so happy throughout the entire runtime, but I’ll be honest, while I did enjoy the movie incredibly, I was a little confused as to why people found this very joyful. It isn’t really a joyful movie, but almost more like how the prestige plays out, on Cooper Hoffmans character going at it for Alana, while she keeps doing things to get back at him, while at the end still doing it out of misunderstood love. However, I feel that the hype the trailer gave off is a complete miscall to the film, where the movie is a lot more used to silence in most comedic scenes and long takes (those two of which I highly appreciate and loved though, so while it was different from what was excepted in the trailer, I still really enjoyed it). Only complaint is how the trailer teased such great scenes that never made the cut! I was sitting in my seat waiting for the moment I got to see Bradley Cooper’s character throw a violent outburst in the gas station, but it never came! And the scenes of Gary and his friends chugging down tons of alcohol with Alana never showed up too which sucks, but hey I’m still pleased by the film.
@@jaivirmalhotra15 that is true about the Bradley Cooper scene. When I felt like the film was coming to a close I thought it can’t be this early, we haven’t seen the Bradley Cooper car smashing scene yet, but obviously they put that in the credits scene instead. But they definitely could have added a whole other scene of him finding out about his house being flooded and chasing the kids in a fit of rage, in the process smashing those cars
Cooper Hoffman has his dads talent no doubt! His stage presence is great.
Cooper's natural charisma is staggering
I'm really beginning to think Alana and Cooper might land acting nominations from the Academy.
Alana has a good shot. Cooper sadly not
@@jmo5755 why not? Bradley’s acting was phenomenal!
@@copperguide1675 not Bradley. I’m talking about Cooper Hoffman
@@jmo5755 my mistake
@@jmo5755 why not
Is Alana wearing one of Danielle's vests? QUEEN
Damn PTA it's almost as old as u!

The fact that Bradley Cooper and Sean Penn’s characters have such small roles is what makes it great though
