- A fan made modern trailer for Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi classic, ALIEN.
I took a simpler, less flashy approach with the edits on this one. Minimal fades and dissolves. Primarily straight forward cuts. That felt like the direction to go, given the tone of the film. My number one goal was trying to achieve the same atmosphere as the movie.
When I tackle any project with a creature or monster or alien, the first thing I try to figure out is how to avoid showing it. How to keep it out of the trailer. I kind of cheated this time around, showing about two frames of the Xenomorph at the end. I figured I could get away with that since it equals a fraction of a second of screen time. I also have the face-hugger in there. I didn’t consider it as spoiling too much since it isn’t in the movie that long.
I really didn’t see any other choice for music than the piece from the original trailer. Nothing says ALIEN like that pulse. It’s as identifiable with the film as James Bond’s theme, in my opinion. Making the choice to use the original trailer music actually made editing this easier.

The original trailer was excellent because “IT DIDN'T SHOW ANYTHING”. So no one knew what they were going to see.

Could you, please, make your logo less invasive? The whole time I was trying not to look directly at the neony thing in the bottom right corner instead of enjoying how good the trailer is.

This is very well edited! And you are right, this is a "modern" trailer meaning, although it is well done, it gives away the entire story in under 3 minutes. That is my biggest beef with modern trailers. That said you did a great job with the cuts, the music and building the tension! I'll never forget seeing the original trailer at the theater back in 79.

Although it would be on par with most of today's trailers it just goes to show that the classic can't be touched. It just makes me want to watch the original one a few times more.
You should have WAY MORE views for this. I was expecting at least hundreds of thousands. Very good stuff.
Practical effects really do stand the test of time. The only thing that ages this film is the haircuts.

This one still is too much cronological for me.
This trailer would have given away the milk for free, it shows all of the most key scenes, to one degree or another. But the major faux pas, is showing the eggs, and the monster AT ALL. At this point in time, it's awesome, but if it falls through a wormhole to 1979, the box office returns and the entire franchise would be ruined.

But actually, the theme your hear in the trailer Prometheus was from the original 1979 Alien trailer in the first place, making this a callback to a callback, I guess? 🤓

Great editing and a good trailer, but the only problem is most of the trailer is a giveaway to the whole story of the film.

Man there’s WAY too much info in this trailer. Two of the best jump scares of the film are given away.
Do you mean the face-hugger? I was on the fence about what to include and what not, specifically, the face-hugger stuff. I wanted to explain how the alien gets onboard and that meant showing Kane getting attacked. Plus, I didn't feel giving that away ruins what happens afterwards because this film is absolutely loaded. It's more than a couple jump scares, in my opinion.

Hello Retro Hideout anyway Alien (1979) directed by Ridley Scott and The Thing (1982) directed by John Carpenter both of them are my childhood and because both of them have the most brutal scenes out of every other horror movie Alien (1979) directed by Ridley Scott Chestburster scene and The Thing (1982) directed by John Carpenter Chesteater scene and I consider both of them the greatest sci-fi horror movies ever created as well:).

Great work, but, though modern trailers do give away too much, i think you should completely eliminate the actual view on the Space Jockey and the Facehugger, and the Derelict Alien Ship. Give the human reactions, the running, the fear, the end part where you for a split second see the Alien pop up behind Parker was perfect enough, maybe even make that a tiny bit more distorted, and it would have been perfect - except for your logo WAY too prominent.
Looking back there are a number of things I'd do differently. You bring up some great ideas. I appreciate the feedback. As for the logo, that's a thing of the past. Thanks for watching!

First half I used the music from the ALIEN: COVENANT trailer. 2nd half is the music from the PROMETHEUS trailer.
Yepp this would be how modern movie makers would trailer A L I E N, show the monster, give away too much, and kill the box office returns, perfect modern crap version.

Just saw the original trailer......I think this one is better.....the old one was a little muddled and had too many blurred and dimly lit scenes.
