Yeow!!! That looks prime what a session! This is a bit off topic mate, but could I get your advice or recommendation on something if you don't mind? I live on the Atherton Tablelands and when I'm not down in Cairns chasing Barra and jacks, I really bloody love hiking and kayaking up far away hidden spots targeting big sooty grunter in creeks and rivers. A lot of people reckon it's dumb but it's my jam I really love it. Anyway I'm looking for a casting rod that's got a light enough action in the tip for throwing luckycraft poppers and sammys, the smaller size gunfish, pointers, and soft plastics. I've been using my 702C which is my favourite rod and I reckon it's absolutely deadly, but I want something a bit shorter like 6foot6 or thereabouts but as close to the same action and performance as the 702. I've taken a lot of your advice on board over the years and I've come to realise that your preferences are more or less the same as mine. Sorry to chew ya brain out Mick but if you could share any suggestions or recommendations I would very much appreciated it. Also I exclusively shop at complete angler in Cairns so if you could recommend any rods that they'd have that would be good. Hope to hear back from you mate . Yeah I've been using my champion extreme 702c , and it's an incredible rod, but yeah I'm after something I little bit shorter mainly for ease of netting fish in the kayak and also for navigating through scrub. I haven't looked at the 683c, is that a champion HP or something?
@@Jake_UpNorthFishingAdventures yeah mate it’s a champion XP so you go down a model but up in power, that rod has a really nice soft tip for casting smaller lures but retains the power similar to the 702c you have, but 4 inches shorter. Compleat angler cairns should have one in there but maybe call first to save the drive if they don’t. If they don’t there is a new store in Mareeba opening at the end of this month and I’m pretty sure they got one on their opening order…
I’m pretty fussy with what I keep, my freezer is usually stocked with trout and red emperor so unless it’s an A grade eating fish I generally release them where possible.

I don't normally use me 702 for sootys but since the wet season I've had to beef up for some very big, aggressive as all heck, dogs.
