I never actually got on a boatride that included animatronics, I just really hated the idea of it, lol. 4 years later, I've mostly gotten over that fear, though I'll admit stumbling upon a worn out underwater animatronic would be quite jarring...
This is every single time I even hear or see an animatronic in the water. It’s scary to think I would even fall in. I especially am triggered by the sharks so I just always freak out. Doesn’t help that one time a man fell into a jaws ride like where the sharks were.
This is literally the sole reason I didn't go work as a skipper in Disneyland despite being a dream job for me--skippers sometimes jump in on their last day, or are tossed in, and I think being in the water with all the animals would traumatize me. I'd probably freeze up and just drown lol

Okay Mildred is the only water animatronic that I’ve ever found to be cute. “She often tries to make friends with butterflies” like c’mon that’s the most purest & sweetest sentence. Even the word “Crocklebog” is charming whimsical and adorable ⚙️🐊🦋✨💕
Bertha had an oil leak at one point (recently) that turned her all black and even more terrifying. I think they either re restored her or cleaned her up and she looks fine now.

For me it’s just falling in the water. I can’t even begin to explain how scary it would be to accidentally fall out of the boat on a water ride, as the cold water surrounds ur body and the boat floats away; having to swim ur way back with the animatronics.
I remember reading a Reddit AMA of a woman that worked as a mermaid on one water ride in a few decades ago (I can't remember the ride name). They said that many times while being in the water close to the ride you could feel suction forces pulling you towards to underwater machinery if you got to close. I still have nightmares thinking about this.
I'm like 65% positive it's not submarine voyage since I believe the mermaids in it were animatronics but I'm probably wrong since it wouldn't be that hard to have "real" mermaids there

That, and a man made object or machine being submerged in water so deep is subconsciously seen as unnatural therefore it's eerie and uncanny. I don't have this Phobia, and it took a bit for me to understand it some, but I remembered thinking about times where I was on a dam as a kid and I looked at the water splashing up against the stone wall on the other side where it holds this massive body of water, while the other side is high and dry. The thought of being against the walls of the Dam WHILE under the water is pretty creepy to me, although I kinda like it. But that thought alone made me understand the phobia a bit more even though I don't have it.

I grew up in Adelaide, so not far from Murray Bridge. The two things that keep me visiting are savoury slices and the Bunyip. I was terrified of Bertha when I was a kid, and I remember her child. Fun fact: my mother used to get me to behave by telling me the Bunyip would get me
I remember the bunyip! I only saw it in motion once, but the combo of the dark space, the creaky animatronic movement and the stench of the still water was definitely eerie as hell.
I just imagined swimming in that Moby Dick pond to see if it was still there, and just slowly finding it submerged in water with it's lifeless artificial expression surrounded by the murkiness is one of the creepiest things I can imagine experiencing.
Just seeing the huge artificial whale what used to bring people fascination And joy. The old rails and gears,that could have taken months and even years to craft. The beedy eyes that will never move again,sitting in four broken pieces never to see the morning sun. Its glory with never be known,depression sets in when you realise. He's been alone underwater for years now. Never going to see the happiness of children that seen him in the 50s. He hasn't seen a human face in 70 years.
I remember Maelstrom and Jaws and I ADORED it’s atmosphere as a child (even though the fire in the Jaws ride scared the crap out of me back then). Seeing it in the video brought back so much nostalgia, thank you for including it!
I'm 35 years old, and STILL have flashbacks to Jaws the ride at Universal. My parents took me on it when I was about 8 or 9. I was TERRIFIED, because I had no idea that the shark wasn't real lol.
Years ago I saw the Gardaland Sea Monster. All the ride it's kinda dark, makes you feel underground in a sea cave and all the animatronics are unsettling. The monster seems scary at that point when you reach it. I never thought it's actually a phobia, but I do remember I absolutely hated the idea of being near that thing or just the thought of the machinery under water. :|
There's phobias for almost anything. There's phobias of stairs, streets, hell there's even a phobia for people who are afraid of letters of the alphabet.
I live in Italy, about two hours away from Gardaland, and so about every year I go there with my family. I love the I Corsari ride, and I swear every time I take that ride the Sea Serpent scares me, and I think he'll never stop to do so.

I went to a boat ride in a gorgeous place in Mexico. We saw dolphins and stuff, then the tour guide gave us snorkels and fins and stuff for swimming there, I'm not afraid of the open ocean, but suddenly seeing all that endless blue, made me feel anxious.
Once I swam across a small part of the sea to the island about 200m away,, when I look down into the water, the bottom looked SO FAR AWAY, and I got so genuinely scared but I was still 100m from the shore and I literally swam like a shark was chasing me 😭
I was a big fan of the Loch ness monster as a child, even shippered it with a Yeti) I Remember watching the Legend of dinosaurs with a plesiosaur on a pirate disk. He wrote a conspiracy theory about the Mariana trench. And then I suddenly realized. That I am very much afraid of depth precisely because of the fear of encountering something alive. I'm afraid of something big and capable of swallowing me, I'm afraid of something that can tear me up like a lion, I'm afraid of something small and agile, I'm afraid of something intelligent. I often had nightmares about being attacked by a terrible monster of the deep in the swamps. And from the myth of GTA: Sanandres about the creature in the water, I had goosebumps. So to this day, of course, my favorite Ob sea is really fraught with danger: snags on the bottom, glass from bottles because it is better not to climb to the bottom, although in a team I can jump from large reliable swimming logs. But still I ship and want to spread Nessie x Yeti pairing!
I am Italian and I can tell that the Corsari ride in Gardaland has been one of the best of the park. The atmosphere is so dark and creepy that you'll forget all your love for the pirate universe in those 5 minutes

In the movie Jaws, Bruce (The shark Animatronic used for the movie) was made of metal, every time Bruce is underwater you can hear the metal inside of the animatronic and that creeped the shit out of me when younger.
I got stuck on the ‘it’s a small world’ ride for almost four hours when I was a kid. To this day I don’t think I’ve ever experienced something so traumatizing.

Some of these do give me an uneasy feeling but I love it!! It’s oddly fascinating to see them underwater while moving, or even just hearing about how they work/are cleaned.

The jurassic boat ride in pigeon forge, when i rode it a few years back, it was creaking SO loud and the mechanical noises were so unsettling, the animatronics all creaked as well. very creepy experience and it was dark too LOL
I think I have a phobia of animatronics in general. Them being underwater does make it worse, however. I HATE the beach because I’m also afraid of sharks

Listen I freak out when going towards downed trees in the lake. So your still probably braver then me. Heck I sometimes get afraid of swimming under the dock because the last time I was there at the dock I was at. I saw to glimmering eyes.

Thanks for mentioning Maelstrom. I'm dissapointed that a ride dedicated to Norwegian mythology was replaced. That ride was my first introduction to Norwegian mythology and really sparked my interest in it. I can only imagine the number of kids who are going to miss out now that it was replaced with Frozen.

Growing up in Hillsboro, OR we always went to a pumpkin patch that had a little river ride you could take to reach the pumpkins and there were a few things that came out of the water that always scared me! A pair of dragons, a shark, and I'm pretty sure one more thing. They were pure metal, no realistic look, which made it worse.
The lightning/oil rig scene in Maelstrom was so impressive. I remember feeling like I was trapped in a real, inescapable storm as a kid. Still feels larger than life when I think back on it so many years later.
Yea always loved the ride and that ending scene was cool. I kind of wish they would have just redone the ride but kept the troll theme and had it more of an expansion of the that troll section for the whole ride.

BILL CIPHER I understand!!! Plus, I think personally that they are real, but like not completely physically real if that makes sense. Not to get too sciencey, but there are different vibrational energy planes on earth and in the universe. It’s why dogs, cats, and other animals seem able to see things that humans can’t see. Why? Because they have a higher frequency of energy that they can sense that we can’t. And creatures or beings that emit these types of energies, are often creatures that can be imagined in your minds eyes, and their vibrations can be sensed by animals. And we can sense them too if we work on our vibrations as well. I know because I’ve tried it and it works.
I’ve went on that Jurassic ride years ago. Over half the animatronics were broken or didn’t work, the water was full of trash, and the whole place just stank like rotting food. Would NOT recommend that ride. You can even see it in the video; some dinosaurs are missing limbs or jaws
Also, the moby dick animatronic was doing a test run back in it’s day before the park opened on that day when employees said there was an earth shuddering *crack* and the whale broke into multiple pieces and sank. Your welcome :) The Bunyip animatronic had an oil leak at one point, turning the water black and staining the whole animatronic black too. Look up ‘Bunyip animatronic oil spill’ trust me, if you think Bunyip alone is terrifying, take a look at a oil stained Bunyip animatronic in pitch black water. Don’t worry though, they managed to clean the water and the animatronic lol.
i had no problem w the bunyip animatronic until i saw the oil covered bunyip in i think fastpass’s video covering this stuff too. im not typically scared of things but it terrified me

For me it’s just falling in the water. I can’t even begin to explain how scary it would be to accidentally fall out of the boat on a water ride, as the cold water surrounds ur body and the boat floats away; having to swim ur way back with the animatronics.
I remember reading a Reddit AMA of a woman that worked as a mermaid on one water ride in a few decades ago (I can't remember the ride name). They said that many times while being in the water close to the ride you could feel suction forces pulling you towards to underwater machinery if you got to close. I still have nightmares thinking about this.

Because water constantly moves it has the effect of giving life to likewise inanimate objects.
That, and a man made object or machine being submerged in water so deep is subconsciously seen as unnatural therefore it's eerie and uncanny. I don't have this Phobia, and it took a bit for me to understand it some, but I remembered thinking about times where I was on a dam as a kid and I looked at the water splashing up against the stone wall on the other side where it holds this massive body of water, while the other side is high and dry. The thought of being against the walls of the Dam WHILE under the water is pretty creepy to me, although I kinda like it. But that thought alone made me understand the phobia a bit more even though I don't have it.

I grew up in Adelaide, so not far from Murray Bridge. The two things that keep me visiting are savoury slices and the Bunyip. I was terrified of Bertha when I was a kid, and I remember her child.

Years ago I saw the Gardaland Sea Monster. All the ride it's kinda dark, makes you feel underground in a sea cave and all the animatronics are unsettling. The monster seems scary at that point when you reach it. I never thought it's actually a phobia, but I do remember I absolutely hated the idea of being near that thing or just the thought of the machinery under water. :|

Once I swam across a small part of the sea to the island about 200m away,, when I look down into the water, the bottom looked SO FAR AWAY, and I got so genuinely scared but I was still 100m from the shore and I literally swam like a shark was chasing me 😭

I am Italian and I can tell that the Corsari ride in Gardaland has been one of the best of the park. The atmosphere is so dark and creepy that you'll forget all your love for the pirate universe in those 5 minutes

That ride was my first introduction to Norwegian mythology and really sparked my interest in it. I can only imagine the number of kids who are going to miss out now that it was replaced with Frozen.

The lightning/oil rig scene in Maelstrom was so impressive. I remember feeling like I was trapped in a real, inescapable storm as a kid. Still feels larger than life when I think back on it so many years later.
That was my favorite part of the ride, it was incredible. I wish more theme park rides would use miniatures like that.
Yea always loved the ride and that ending scene was cool. I kind of wish they would have just redone the ride but kept the troll theme and had it more of an expansion of the that troll section for the whole ride.

BILL CIPHER I understand!!! Plus, I think personally that they are real, but like not completely physically real if that makes sense. Not to get too sciencey, but there are different vibrational energy planes on earth and in the universe. It’s why dogs, cats, and other animals seem able to see things that humans can’t see. Why? Because they have a higher frequency of energy that they can sense that we can’t. And creatures or beings that emit these types of energies, are often creatures that can be imagined in your minds eyes, and their vibrations can be sensed by animals. And we can sense them too if we work on our vibrations as well. I know because I’ve tried it and it works.

I’ve went on that Jurassic ride years ago. Over half the animatronics were broken or didn’t work, the water was full of trash, and the whole place just stank like rotting food. Would NOT recommend that ride. You can even see it in the video; some dinosaurs are missing limbs or jaws
Also, the moby dick animatronic was doing a test run back in it’s day before the park opened on that day when employees said there was an earth shuddering *crack* and the whale broke into multiple pieces and sank. Your welcome :)
The Bunyip animatronic had an oil leak at one point, turning the water black and staining the whole animatronic black too. Look up ‘Bunyip animatronic oil spill’ trust me, if you think Bunyip alone is terrifying, take a look at a oil stained Bunyip animatronic in pitch black water. Don’t worry though, they managed to clean the water and the animatronic lol.
i had no problem w the bunyip animatronic until i saw the oil covered bunyip in i think fastpass’s video covering this stuff too.
