    To anyone who hasn't found the answer, my 2000 camry had a different connector for the factory radio. Every where said that aftermarket adapters wouldn't work. They will, the 20 pin plug is wired up with 2 plugs behind the radio and to the right. Find the walmart connectors that fits with the ones on the right and wire everything together. It'll work perfectly.

    Thank you for the great video and info. My 2001 Camry has the factory JBL system and I'm installing a Alpine INE-W940 which has its own amp so was wondering if it would sound better to by-pass the factory JBL amp ? And if so would I use the harness for the non amp and would it still send sound to all the speakers ? Or would I need to rewire them all?

      I have a 99 with 152k, absolutely love this car! I've had it since 50k, I recently replaced the shocks and struts as it was super bouncy and would bottom out on big bumps etc. I kinda liked that bouncy "cloud like" ride but not the constant bottoming out lol. I took a road trip to South Florida, which was 16 hours each way and I bottomed out constantly on 95 with all the damn construction and a full car (3 ppl and luggage). Now I never have that issue I haven't bottomed out once. Other than that I change the oil myself (a toddler could do it, its literally the easiest vehicle in the world if u have the v4) every 3k, new tires every couple years, changed the timing belt one time when it broke. It VERY SLIGHTLY leaks oil and I assume it just needs a new head gasket as that's where I see the most oil. I haven't gotten around to it since the oil leak is so slight. Awesome vehicle all around, spacious, and will last forever if taken care of. When it dies I plan on getting a newer Camry. I also installed a 4k dash cam mirror w/back up camera. Ran the cables myself through the vehicle trim into trunk. With so many bad drivers these days a 4k dash cam with rear/front view GPS and speed is a necessity. Next up I'm gonna change the head unit and put in some better speakers. My passenger door speaker is blown right now and rattles, drives me crazy if I listen to anything with some bass in it.

    Hey Provo Beast, your video was informative and clear which is awesome, but how would I know if my 1998 Toyota Camry needs a "Powered" harness adapter or not? my old radio broke and I'm bumming at the moment

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well if "powered" means the amplified harness, then it all depends on the trim level of your Camry; if you have the upgraded factory camry sound system with a factory amplifier (commonly under the passenger front seat), then in order to retain that amplifier to work with a new radio, you would need a different harness that has RCA plugs. Those plugs go into your new radio providing the factory amp the type of signal needed to amplify the sound. Hopefully that makes sense.
      See this video: th-cam.com/video/Bt-bAc0KFR8/w-d-xo.html
      Even though it is a Nissan, same theory there, the type of harness, for example, has those RCA plugs. Same theory for your Camry.

    • @xCaffeine_Fiend
      @xCaffeine_Fiend 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Provo Beast Audio Installation
      I have actually run into a problem where my factory harness has a wire labeled "amp ground" and the new stereo does not have a wire for this. should I tie it to the normal ground, or just not attach as I do not have RCA cables so no power amp.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would be just fine grounding that wire to the black normal ground. No harm done.

    • @xCaffeine_Fiend
      @xCaffeine_Fiend 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Provo Beast Audio Installation
      Third question and hopefully final: My factory wiring has leads for "illumination", and "dimmer". none of these are on the new stereos harness. The stereo harness has a lead that is for " amp turn on/ power antenna" and my factory end has 2 leads for those functions separately. What should I do with the leads with no purpose? what should I do with the power antenna and amp turn on leads?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just tape off the illumination and Dimmer since they will not be used. If you do not have an external amplifier, just tape those off. The power antenna you can tie into the red wire (ignition wire) which provides the antenna function when the key is in. Hopefully that makes sense.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A single or double din will fit fine and you will use the factor brackets. If you use a single din radio, you will need the American International UPT900 Dash Kit pocket to fill the extra space. If you have the amplified factory trim level, you will need the Metra 70-8112 wiring harness. If you don't have the upgraded factory system (basic 4 speaker setup only), you will need the
      Metra 70-1761 wiring harness.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bob It can be. If you follow the factory wiring through the firewall, Toyota actually went through the driver's side fender. The easiest way to go through the factory grommets is to follow that factory wiring which requries you to remove the wheel well cover liner, exposing that factory wiring, grommet, and engine bay access. This avoids any need for drilling new holes. Hope this helps.

      Just find wires that go through firewall. Rubber grommet around it. Carefully punch a hole through it and feed wire though that. Follow battery back, left about 20" or so. Toyota video was made by an ex Ford employee.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That radio is a little bit different than most aftermarket radios, in that it has a built in powerful amp. Your new radio would require you to run the yellow and black to the battery directly only because if you try to use the factory radio harness power, it won't supply enough and you will end up blowing fuses. So yes, run it directly to the battery. Other aftermarket radios don't require as much power so they can just be wired into the factory harness, like the video.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have the factory amplified system? If so you may need a different harness. Also look at how the harness doesn't fit, sometimes you have to slightly modify the factory harness to fit. We did so in this video: th-cam.com/video/AbdoAcwrbJ8/w-d-xo.html

    • @bobrusable
      @bobrusable 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The blue wire is the Power Antenna and can either be hooked into the red ignition wire or connected to the blue/white wire which is the amplifier turn on wire. Either one will work.

    I decided to do this exact setup with my 2000 camry. But after installing the stereo the touch screen is not responsive, what could be the problem? if uou can help me out that would be great!

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +phatjimbo Typically, its the unit that is bad, not necessarily the install. Also depends on the unit. But i can almost guarantee that the issue lies within the head unit you have installed, not from the install itself. I suggest trying to reset the unit, or removing the negative off the battery and back on again for a full reset.

    • @phatjimbo
      @phatjimbo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Provo Beast I took the negative off my battery and let it sit for 15min before attaching it back on. it still isn't responsive, when I installed it there were a few wires that weren't connected to anything such as, the reverse, dimmer, power antenna, and the brake sw (I think it was called). could any of those cause a problem?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, those are unrelated to the actual functionality of the touch screen. Sounds like you have a bad unit. I would pull the radio out and bench test it on a separate battery to verify that the issue falls with the screen only isolated from the vehicle. My guess is something got damaged in the install. Those wires wouldn't affect the functionality of the touch screen.

    • @phatjimbo
      @phatjimbo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Provo Beast Thank you so much for your input, I really appreciate it. I bought the unit used so there might have be been an issue with it. Now that I know I think I will just return it for another one. Thanks a bunch!

    Does your subwoofer still work? I noticed on crutchfield it says if it bypasses the factory amp, the subwoofer will no longer work. I have a 2001 solara with the JBL system and I've been looking for a way to install an aux input

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This camry did not have the factory JBL system, and for you, you will need a different wiring harness than used in the video. • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      masses yozd the blue wire is the antenna power wire, In the harness, the solid blue wire is the antenna power wire. You can just tie that into the red wire (the ignition wire) or the blue / white wire (the amplifier turn-on wire). To add a back up camera, you will need to tap into the reverse trigger wire to tell the unit to switch over to the camera feed when the vehicle is in reverse.

    • @massesbulet
      @massesbulet 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Provo Beast so when bring output from camera and plug it. To the input of the stereo once put car on reverse it gonna show screen radion is that correct it no

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      masses yozd Correct, however, you need to attach the reverse wire trigger on the back of the stereo to the reverse wire in your vehicle. You will just have to look up where to find that wire location online. Secondly, depending on the model of the camera you are using, it may require power as well. Typically the easiest way to provide power to the camera itself would be to tap into the taillight positive and ground. The last connection would be the video feed from the camera to the stereo itself, plugged into the camera input itself.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio

      The factory wiring connector will not fit the aftermarket radio. So if you don't purchase a wiring harness adapter, it would force you to cut into the factory wiring which is more work than it's worth. I recommend buying an adopter, completely with the 5 bucks in Amazon.

    On my son's 98 Camry he has the AMFM radio with the multi-CD slave unit. He needs an aux stereo input with a 3.5 mini jack. Is there an adapter that would allow him to use the slave unit connection to the radio (which is an odd circular plug). I have a similar setup on my Tundra to a single CD unit that works great to my iphone. Otherwise I need a way (a harness) to connect the existing 15 pin connector on the car to the 12 pin connector on a replacement radio I bought. It would be female to female. Does Walmart have this? What is the part number? Thanks very much.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio

    I bought a radio (geek.wish.com/c/58426e9938e0fa5f7f93aff9) for my 2000 Toyota Camry. Would I need the same parts? Why do you need to buy a wiring harness?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need the same parts, yes, as long as your Camry doesn't have the JBL system. The reason why you will need a wiring harness adapter is because this adapter plugs directly into the factory harness plug and labels each wire easily for you to connect your new radio. Without it, you would have to cut out the factory plug, locate each wire specifically and ensure when you connect your new radio wiring that it is correct. Much easier just buying a harness adapter.
