It's funny and slightly endearing at this point how the devs really try to justify this change. Do they really believe people don't see through the PR bullshit? We're in 2021, well past beyond the "lootbox crisis". Gamers are more aware than ever of the AAA industry scam tactics. Speeding up the early stages of playthrough and slowing down the latter ones leads to the classical pacing strategy of mobile "free-to-pay" games. First the hookup that gets you hyped, the "honeymoon"stage. And when you're finally "engaged" the reality kicks in and you find yourself inmersed in the grind, willing to pay for shit that speeds it up like XP boosts, top-tier characters, gacha fuel or straight pay-to-win microtransactions. At least the game should go truly "free-to-pay" if they are implementing this shitty update.
There isn't XP boosters, the only paid content is shitty overpriced cosmetics. I wouldn't be shocked if they added them but right now there's no boosters.
The corporate suits are chasing those hundreds of millions they see successful service games like Fortnite and Apex Legends churning out. They think it's worth it to waste tens of millions in attempt to make it.
So they are basically saying that they aren’t responsible for releasing not enough content but players are because they are playing their game too fast.
Crystal Dynamics is trying to kill this game so they can get out of this “Games as a Service” bullshit. Just look at every decision they have made with this game. Their first post character release was 1 day before Cyberpunk released.
Nobody gets a sense of accomplishment because of the amount of time something takes you to do. Overcoming struggle is what gives you a sense of accomplishmen. Just getting through a game simply because it takes too long? That should not be the struggle.
I'm really digging this bold assumption that they have "new players" to even cater to. That's the sort of confidence in yourself that turns people's heads.
Not to mention this wouldn't even sound attractive to new players. "Hey, start playing our game. We just made it so you have less toys to play with right away and put more mind numming repetition in there because we think you're a bumbling moron who cannot read what 2 new skills do every so often. Ain't this really attractive?"
@@ghost245353 Sounds like the most plausable explanation. Dev's want to kill this shitheap off quickly so they can start working on a more fun project. They most likely can't simply quit due to contractual obligations, so they're forced to kill it off.
"We think levelling up is confusing for newer players, so we're going to increase XP needed to level up AFTER level 25" This is about as stupid as EA's "rewarding the grind" bullshit.
Single skillpoints feeling meaningful is actually a valid approach... when you have a well structured single player game that isn't supposed to be grindy.
"Am I a joke to you?" - Some person somewhere at some time that has always LOVED unlocking all the skills they want faster than slower. "Oh no! Not at all! Just a walking piggy bank. Don't waste time breaking now~!" - corporate
Yes getting skill points and leveling up at a normal pace is just SO confusing. It leaves me wondering, "Hey how did I get these skill points? Am I playing a game right now? What is life? Did I leave the stove on? I am so confused right now."
When I see these types of "controversies" I feel that it's the Publishers testing the waters, so they can gauge how far they can press their luck for future projects, by using failed games as the test subjects.
Good point! Devs could never experiment like this on a successful game. They must run their tests on failing games. Would be too risky to try these tricks on a popular game making lots of money.
@@thebenc1537 Indeed, but I'm accusing the Publishers, because I hope that the Devs are in-touch with the consumer base and know that shit like this doesn't fly well to the majority. It still baffles me how people can defend anti-consumer and/or egregious monetization practices.
I think those 28% upvotes are just fanboys of Marvel franchise in general. They're so thirsty for a new update/content that they're willing to take anything even if it makes the game more grindy asf. That is just sad.
@@JPogi690 I figured that's what it was when I saw that upvote rate. People keep comparing stuff like that to an abusive relationship. If they enjoy the game, it's one thing but they have to admit when something isn't good.
Well it confuses me wondering about where I'm going to put the skill points into my skills but that's about it I usually choose the skills I think I actually need and then I go about my day in the game like nothing happened it usually takes about a minute
It might be rough, but there are a million different guides out there for new players. The community has really been one of the shining beacons of PoE.
Reminds me of the time the ANTHEM dev team accidentally buffed the loot drop chance Then everyone still playing thanked them... only for them to call it a mistake and nerf it even harder 🤣
Devs need to stop seeing every accidental thing as an issue. Hell, some of the most fun game mechanics in history have been accidental glitches that their respective communities learned to love. Fuck, the entire GTA franchise came from a bug found in their original concept of the first game.
“Boss, we have almost NO gamers playing this game! What can we do to bring people back and gain new players?” “I know. Make the game even worse. That’ll bring people back!”
The best prt is this guy literally copypasted the same thing they said before. “ You see, it’s not x, it’s x. Why you don’t understand me?” Can’t wait for the insults to the playerbase to arrive. Remember kids, this is what you paid for. You keep buying, they keep treating you like this.
The game is dead. Live service garbage can't survive with a few hundred players. But killing it now would only make Square Enix look bad and/or potentially lose the license. They have no choice but to venture on and support it. You don't want Disney on your ass.
But Anthem was "alive" for almost 2 years before they finally canned it. Avengers game will go on longer but these recent decisions will probably axe it sooner.
How much of this is on the publisher, Square Enix? Crystal Dynamics may very well be the people to blame for this, but it also could have been borne out of a request from the publisher to have players spend more time with the game. SE is still looking to recoup costs the last I checked.
Can you cover the insane microtransactions in Roblox games? They are literally getting kids hooked on gambling at young age, and are much worse than EA.
This definitely needs to be addressed . Roblox is also full of copyrighted content, and Roblox is literally making money of them. There are Among US, Fortnite, Minecraft, Pokemon, Anime, CSGO, etc ripoff games.
I can totally get behind toning down the Roblox MTXs, but, iirc, most of the Roblox stuff is user created content, yeah? The most responsibility Roblox would have is probably responding to requests by Copyrights holders to have stuff taken down. We already get mad enough at Nintendo for being too strict with their copyright use. I doubt we want to go down the rabbit hole of policing Roblox content.
@tannerlee333 You’d think today’s parents would be more aware of the horrors of the Internet. My parents were far from perfect, but at their best they only let me play offline games-usually CD-ROM games from before I was born, like Sonic CD or Arthur’s Reading Race (you can guess which of the two I liked more, although Arthur had its weird charm) or let me play on the Nickelodeon website, but while dealing with some of the most intense helicopter-parenting of my life and only games that were completely free-and no Ren and Stimpy or the kinky Dancing Sumos game made to promote Rugrats in Paris.
@tannerlee333 Problem is parent's don't know any better. They give in to their kids crying when they see that their friends have certain items. Yong ripped EA for lootboxes and since the most popular games all have sort of lootbox mechanics implemented, I think Yong should call them out.
@@gilolaes4725 It's user created content that they directly profit off of. Roblox is making money through copyrighted content, it's not someone else's responsibility to police them, they should have their own team for that.
It's baffling at this day and age, they can just get other rpg-looter-beat em up ideas/concept and improve on them. Everything in that game is kinda the opposite of what's supposed to be a good live service looter game. It's like they've been living under the rock (similar to what Massive did with Division 2 after the fixes/improvement they made in Division 1)
I remember when we had Marvel Heroes Omega, that was a great Marvel game with almost all the heroes possible in it, free to play tons of fun and then they removed it from us.
It was made by former Diablo 2 devs. Unfortunately the license agreement was with Marvel before Disney and Disney chose to cut Gazillion off killing the game.
It wasn't exactly great at launch. I ended up playing it from around 2015 and just in the time I ended up playing it (from 2015 over 2016 and to Omega) there was a lot of stuff added and especially the monetization system was massively overhauled to make it more fair. Because it certainly wasn't from the beginning. I think I ended up spending something like $20 on it altogether and I got around half of the heroes in the game, by far most of them I got for free through gameplay. What I'm trying to say is that of the live services that have ended up good only really few were actually good from the start. From what I've heard WOW, Apex Legends and the two Guild Wars games are the main examples. The rest basically grew into it. I'm not saying that it's going to happen for Marvel's Avengers. It's probably not basically because they don't seem to have any grasp of what is actually wrong with the game. David Brevik certainly had an idea of the initial flaws of Marvel Heroes. It certainly is an uphill battle and I find it a lot more likely that it will go the way of Anthem than it doing a No Man's Sky...
@@TG-ge1oh I didn't. Warframe very much started out with all the trappings of a live service including full on pay to win in the form of orokin reactors and catalysts only being purchasable by platinum. I am aware that a lot of people are mourning the current state of it. But it has been a lot worse. I'd say DE have always tried to do F2P right. But it took them quite some time to actually do it right.
@@MarkLangdahl You've got a point there. They did face a lot of pitfalls and hurdles before eventually getting the model right, and now I hear the model's gone messed up again.

I kinda like how everyone and I mean everyone is telling the developers what the problem is with the game. CONTENT. CONTENT. But to the developers believe XP
I don’t understand this. I played it for some time and enjoyed it for the good that it had, but slowly it kept taking enjoyment away from me. So I became a cliche like everyone else and sold it but after this, it’s like, I sadly made the right move.
Personally I think they made more grindy is because gamers burn though the content to fast. So they thought slow down XP so they don't burn though what little content there is.

Crystal Dynamics is trying to kill this game so they can get out of this “Games as a Service” bullshit.
Just look at every decision they have made with this game. Their first post character release was 1 day before Cyberpunk released.
maybe they really are trying to kill it
That's a nice theory
Maybe they saw that Bioware is allowed to make a single player game after the Anthem disaster and thought "I want a little bit of that!"
I dont play this game. What's games as a service?
@John Eric so games as a service are games that are basically just microtransactions with nothing worth playing?

"This change is to make progression less overwhelming for new players."
What new players?
I wouldn't be surprised if the devs just really wanted to kill this pathetic cash-grab and move on to their own projects .
This is most likely their goal, to find an excuse to shut this down
I could imagine Bioware devs doing the same for Anthem by doing the bare minimum work to not get fired
Pride and Accomplishment 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Nobody gets a sense of accomplishment because of the amount of time something takes you to do. Overcoming struggle is what gives you a sense of accomplishmen. Just getting through a game simply because it takes too long? That should not be the struggle.
Imagine Dark Souls doing this. You walk for 7 days in real time before encountering the first hostile entity.

Hall & Oates's song really fits this situation. "You're out of touch
I'm out of time"
the problem is that people aren't BUYING leveling up from the perspective of the devs
I'm really digging this bold assumption that they have "new players" to even cater to. That's the sort of confidence in yourself that turns people's heads.
Ikr, what are doing rn is punishing their loyal playerbase (the community)
Not to mention this wouldn't even sound attractive to new players. "Hey, start playing our game. We just made it so you have less toys to play with right away and put more mind numming repetition in there because we think you're a bumbling moron who cannot read what 2 new skills do every so often. Ain't this really attractive?"
It's definitely turning the game's head... all the way around, complete with a sickening crack.

@@JPogi690 I figured that's what it was when I saw that upvote rate. People keep comparing stuff like that to an abusive relationship. If they enjoy the game, it's one thing but they have to admit when something isn't good.

How is this game still alive?
Just take it out the back and put it out of its misery, even Anthem had the decency to do so
The game is dead. Live service garbage can't survive with a few hundred players. But killing it now would only make Square Enix look bad and/or potentially lose the license. They have no choice but to venture on and support it. You don't want Disney on your ass.
Took em forever to do so tho, so i think if this is killed off soon it'll be classified (to me atleast) as worse then anthem
EA wasn't so kind. They let Anthem's rotten corpse stink out the room for months before finally abandoning it in a ditch.
How long did it take for anthem to get put down? Couple years right? Expect marvel to die near the same length of time.
But Anthem was "alive" for almost 2 years before they finally canned it. Avengers game will go on longer but these recent decisions will probably axe it sooner.
Upcoming video: "Marvel Avengers Next Cancelled"
How much of this is on the publisher, Square Enix?
Crystal Dynamics may very well be the people to blame for this, but it also could have been borne out of a request from the publisher to have players spend more time with the game.
SE is still looking to recoup costs the last I checked.
Can’t wait to see this join Anthem and Artifact in the discontinued bin.
