The best thing Tony Kahn has ever done was hire Jim Ross and pay him regardless of whether he's on TV because he is just that important to the wrestling community
Perfect example of what’s wrong with the world today. “I disagree with one person on one stance, so f’k them.” I’ve thought AEW was a joke since it was founded. I think Tony Khan was in the wrong regarding Punk. I also think Tony is a decent, benevolent person in most regards. A bit naive and easy to manipulate, but he’s not an entirely bad person.
I like the quote too, Dutch! I like it because it is brutally true, no one really does want to hear doom and gloom, and whether it is physical or mental illness, the best we can do is try to do as much of the living part of like that we can, and be as vibrant as we can be too. I've wanted to cease to exist on/off for quite some time, because some wounds really can't be healed. But I just do my level best and try acting like a guardian angel for the ones I love that struggle and actually DO want to wake up every day and do all this. Good on 'em! J.R is such a trooper (and many people in the business past/present are too)
Oh, I am so approaching middle age (41 here), and I've just been preoccupied with aging and decrepitude and death lately. It comforts me to know that folks truly approaching the end can be so dignified and stoic at the end. Damn decent men. I dunno if I'll approach the end with such dignity. XD
Tony Schiavone said he left the NWA/WCW in early 89 because he saw that it wasn’t going to be a good place to work under Turner's ownership/management and J.J. Dillon had called and told him that Vince was interested . When he went back a year later, he regretted it immediately and, to this day, says it was the biggest mistake he ever made.
Schiavone is an odd one if you listen to him and his stories. People say he'll trash AEW when he leaves, but that isn't true. He, somehow, seems to like what they're doing.. I think he prefers them over WCW. And let's not act like AEW is ran any better.
@cgw1441 I think he's just there for the paycheck. He knows it's a complete shitshow, but he's admitted that the older he gets, he has NFLTG. (No Fs Left To Give).
I was just watching the legend himself on early world championship wrestling last night. Held up in bed with my own health stuff, nothing like what Mr. Ross has had to deal with. I'm a smoker as well, I don't think the cigarettes are what caused his issues, but I get where people are coming from.
The thing is about cancer and chemotherapy is, while it might be the best option we have right now for treatment, it’s not an 100% cure nor is guaranteed that u won’t have any problems from it if u beat cancer. All chemotherapy is is radiation that kills cells. So yes, the chemo is killing the cancer but it’s also giving your body a bunch of radiation too that tour body needs to fight off as well n if your body is too weak it can really cause fatal problems

We remember the announcers because they were our Saturday TV uncles if you grew up in the 70s and 80s and got cable for the first time. Schiavone had the bad luck of having to follow Gordon Solie when everything changed over at WTBS. I never warmed to Tony's game-show slickness. When Solie or Lance Russell were threatened by a heel I was genuinely worried. But to be brutally honest, Tony was "just" a voice to me. Up until today with his work in AEW I never once believed that he actually liked wrestling.

@@CactusJackIV As was said in Ric Flair’s (first) retirement….Leave The Memories Alone. I’d rather remember them at their peak vs trying to do another appearance just because. As Ric Flair’s subsequent retirements should teach us….sometimes holding on too long isn’t good either.

Glad to see he's still keeping strong.
