  • This movie shows a pair of women dancing on the Yama float on the first evening of Kakunodate festival on September 7, 2019. The dances are dedicated to Shinmeisha, the supreme shrine of the Kakunodate district. All 23 district floats come to the shrine front one after another for the powerful float drivers to attend the reporting routine on the rice farming mediating shrine's main building on the hill, while the women performs traditional dance sequences barehanded except an ornamental fan or a red striped towel as accompanied by a standard of drums, flutes, and small gongs with intermittent yells.
The floats arrive here from their home town assembly garage after cruising the city streets driven only by pure manpower, paying annual tribute and loyalty to their local historical landlords since Edo era of Samurai on their way.
The festival as a whole is designated as one of the Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties of Japan.
