I LOVE these Batman variants! I'm younger, so in stores Christian Bale was the Batman I saw, but thankfully I had some older toy stores and comic shops to visit, and at a comic shop in Chillicothe Ohio my brother and I got a few of these Michael Keaton figures. The gold, black, blue and white ones specifically. I can never remember the names but I ADORE them. I've gotten more as a collector, with my favorite probably being the green and black jungle repaint. Batman is so toyetic, and I LOVE it! Great vid man!!

People that didn't grow up during this era may not see the appeal, but these were a HUGE deal in the 90s. And it's so rare now to see out-of-the-box thinking and crazy imaginative designs like this directly from a toy company not based on anything else. The reuse of the molds was actually an advantage for play time, since unlike most Toy Biz figures, you weren't permanently hampered by some built-in gimmick. The gimmick was essentially optional, and you still had an awesome Batman figure regardless with really no compromises. But there was a serious villain shortage in this toy line lol. It wasn't uncommon to just see the Batman aisle with nothing but Batmen. Typically playtime was just Batman vs whatever other figures you had.

The NECA Tec-Shield Batman repaint from a few years ago was a total must have because of my nostalgia for that original figure. Glad to see I am not the only one! Great video! Glad to see more Toysplosion on the channel!

Love the video , my favorite Batman was and still to this day is Deep Dive Batman.I still have him to this day about 50% complete.I love all the variants Kenner gave us no matter how wild they are, to me it showed that Batman could do anything and was unstoppable.

Cool memories and cool video. I still have my childhood Tec-Shield Batman including the backpack and (I think) cape. But that’s probably because I’m a few years older and not long after this I only collected to collect and display. So, he didn’t see heavy play before he was relegated to a box and the occasional diorama.

My favorite back then was the one that came in white and black one. I think he had some kind of ice gimmick and he had a type of cold suit or something that went over him. It's been years but the solid white really stuck with me. So much in fact that even today I want a figure released that does this again. I would buy an arctic white Batman in modern sculpt today in a second.

I’ll always have a soft spot for weirdo toy variants. Sometimes it’s fun to dip into the kid oriented lines just to experience that. A shame the adult collector stuff doesn’t seem to capture that fun most of the time. Great video, Dan!

I wish you talked about how not only did they save money by re-painting batman, but that also a lot of stuff was stolen from silverhawks as well. Not only that, certain accessories like the claw on the end of the rope, are from OTHER batman molds, they just blocked off the channel and re-used the tip of a previous batmans missile for the claw. It was a top tier re-use of part line.

I loved these too as a kid. I definitely had at least three of them. The gold, the all white body Arctic one, and the 1989 movie one with the belt that comes out on a string. This is making me feel real nostalgic, and ready to start scouring eBay.

We must be similar in age. I remember the Christmas i got the Batman w/ retractable utility belt, Robin, the joker w/ color changing face, the batcave & the batmobile all at once. I don't really collect toys as an adult, antique & repro weapons are my thing but i do still like the nostalgia boost from watching. Thanks for that & Merry Christmas. God bless.

How many variants of Batman figures I had over the years, well I have the Toy Biz Batman from 89 (that I reluctantly gave to a friend but years later I bought at a local comic-con) I had the arctic assault batman, than I had the L.O.B. collection which included Crusader Batman (which I bought at my local comic shop back then when it used to be a comic shop) Cyborg Batman,Knightsend Batman and Viking Batman, I also had the Riddler as well. I also had two of the vehicles which included the Skybat and the Batmobile (which I still have till this very day) Thanks Dan.

I love imagining a batcloset with all these suits and devices! The wackier the better for me, like the Lego minifigs. For this Kenner line, I wish I had pictures of my toys, but the toys and ads seen in this video bring back memories of them. Some, I totally forgot like the Batskiboat (what a word)!

Kenner Super Power's, Keaton's and Conroy's are my most favourite Batman figures that time... my most favourite Keaton's is the Iron Winch Batman coz of it's classic comic colours.... I have the Air Attack Batman as well, still sealed on card, not sure whether to open it.... I also have the Jungle Tracker Batman...

Great vid Dan! Tec-Shield Batman was my first variant Batman as well, lol. I always did like that shiny gold suit. I tried to stick to the solid color variants but my little brother would always get the crazy ones, so I was able to play with both, lol. That Dark Knight line was awesome. Seeing that cross sell on the back brings back memories.

The camouflage on Air attack Batman is more intended to break up his body shape rather than blend in. It's based on Dazzle Camouflage used on battle ships during the first world war.

I'd adore a little comic which had Bat-Mite make Batman utilize these silly getups. I remember having Egyptian Batman, and I believe one from the Knight Force Ninjas line.
Man I wish figures were still as silly as they were back then.

    Camouflage nerd time.
The camouflage on the air attack batman. There are many camouflage patterns that have a similar aesthetic to the pattern on this figure. They are from the "Splinter" family of patterns. Made famous during the second world war by the Germans. "Splittertarn muster" was a series of camouflage patterns using over laid splintered/angles shapes with a rain drop layer on top. Contemporary camouflage patterns of this family are used by the Swedish military in the form of M90, M90K and the current generations of Splinter pattern in, Woodland, Arid and snow colourways.
That being said, I don't think the Batman pattern is inspired directly by these designs. But more by "Dazzle" pattern. Which is a way of disguising the direction a battleship is sailing by painting it in blacks, greys and whites of over laid geometric shapes. (Give it a googs, it's really interesting)
Camo nerd time is over. Continue as you were folks.

Awesome video Dan i had gotten a Thunderwhip Batman in 1991 and though he was cool. Lost him in a move then many yaers later a friend sent me one that need a repair on his foot but i was able to fix him easy. Aslo in 1993 i got two of the camo style Batman's and clipped the ears and painted them up as a TagTeam for my SSW figure fed back then and called them the Bouncers then when i chaged Bouncer #2 to a different look i reused it to make Bouncer #3. Also did you notice the different Penguin figures Kenner 1984 is the biggest one. 1989 Toybiz is Middle sized and 1992 Kenner one in black is smaller one? As for my favoriet it would be Shadow Wing Batman,Bruce Wayne, and Firebolt Batman.

Nice lookback PD, a couple of the variant costumes do make to me as a writer/fan like his arctic costume in the end, but w/o the glider. The one that makes the most sense and I think inspired other ideas was the first one, the Air Attack figure. Think back to the DCAU World's Finest movie where Batman met Superman and he wore a similar flying harness w/ missiles and grapple line gauntlets. I think this one inspired the animators/artists.
