What you should do is after getting the black star is grab luigi go to graveyard find a lever under one of the graves and put luigi on a hex and find a blue button afterwards but you only have an hour to do so
I went to the graveyard and flipped the switch. But when I put Luigi on that red star, nothing happened. I can also go down that skull basement without doing so, and as for that blue button, that's probably just that mirror button. Then again, I could be missing something.
