Feels like 1985 all over again. Awesome! My Ultima had a Trinity 12 turn motor with an 8.4V hump pack and Novak ESC back in the day. How fun those days were for a young teenager.
I'm using the standard 25t pinion that comes in the kit. 11t sounds like it's a brushed motor, so I'd go 2-3 teeth less on the pinion and see how that goes for heat. 👍
That was Cool Mick and have to say your lucky mate because the bmx track near my place every time I have been there someone calls the cops on me and mind you I'm totally respectful and don't destroy anything, people need to loosen up man.
Thanks mate. Yeah I'm luck to have such a great place close by. There is a sign at this one, only specifying no nitro/gasoline RC cars and no motorbikes. There's only houses on one side of it and they're across the road. Perfect RC spot really. That sucks people have to ruin your fun when you're not effecting them in any way.
Thanks Matthew. I still haven't driven my Turbo Scorpion as yet but the Ultima is definitely the better car. That said there is nothing wrong with the Turbo Scorpion, the Ultima suspension is just better. Both awesome cars! 👍
Thank you very much! That’s great to hear as I ordered the Ultima! Can’t wait. It’ll be my first build so going 540 brushed to start then I’ll look at motors and batteries later as an excuse to tinker again
I so wish my city had a bmx track. I get to find local construction sites to bomb around with my new Ultima and assorted other toys. Now I need to upgrade the 19 turn brushed motor I have in it to something brushless and faster. The one in this vid screams.
I'm lucky to have those place close by. Most of our construction sites are fenced until they're finished. Your Ultima will be a beast with a brushless system! 👍
That was great Mick, will probably watch this 20 times. The modern stuff just doesn't look this nice . The ultimas really fly with a good brushless system in them. My 5400 kv system in the ultima goes great just seems to like the dirt tracks and gives the Losi 22 50 a run easily. The Rc10 is definitely something special to, both very nice buggies. The old Mopars rule the car world and looks like kyosho rules the rc world especially back in the 80s . Glad to see you blokes having a good time. That was great and good filming to. Have a good weekend mate.
Thanks mate. Haha, hope it doesn't get boring. For sure mate, I prefer the older looking buggies too. Oh yeah, the Ultimas really come to life with a brushless setup, wish we had them back in the day! I think it's awesome that the Ultimas old design can still mix it up with the likes of the Losi 22 and the RC10 B4. Oh yeah mate, was great fun, hanging to get out for more runs! Excuse my slow reply, couldn't get back here till now. Thanks mate, you have a great weekend too! 👍
@@RCHobbyShed ha,ha, never gets boring, everytime I need to know something I go back and watch your builds and learn something. Like swapping the uprights on the Blitzer beetle, it's made it drive perfect, would be bump steering all over the place if built stock. The ultimas are very tough to, I've had a few spills and not even a scratch, looks like new still. Every thing has it's weakness even $1200 Arrmas but these Kyoshos are tough as . Can't wait to see the next video.
@@petergoodwin2465 That's good mate, I'm glad you like the videos and find some of them helpful. Oh yeah, the Ultimas are quite tough, I've still not broken anything either. That's right, everything has a weakness. Hoping to have a similar video out later this coming week. 👍
Looks like the Ultima has the speed and the rc 10 has the smooth stable tracking, that Bmx track looks like a really good place to run your cars Mick glad to see your able to get out and have a go at it . Great video
We just kind of run them how they were without any real setting up. The Ultima is setup to minimize chassis slaps off the higher jumps but makes it slippery and bouncy to drive. The RC10 does drive very well, it is nice and smooth. Oh yeah, awesome place to run our cars and it's great to able to get out again as it's been far too long. Thanks Eric! 👍
Great video, Mick! Both buggies look like a ton of fun to drive on that track. You got some cool footage, my friend! Watch out for flying RC's! All the best, mate! :O)
Thanks Mark. Oh yeah they were both fun, was a great run. Haha, we're calling the Ultima "heatseeker" now as it kept wanting to hit my mate 😂. Hope you're doing well, mate! 👍
@@keithrx3c Yeah that's kinda the problem with royalty free music, which is what I have to use as to not get copyright strikes. What kinda of music do you prefer?
@@keithrx3c I'm glad you said that. For a minute there I was worried you might be a Justin Bieber fan 🤣. Yeah Gunners are awesome. I'm mainly into 80's metal and rock type stuff. None of it I can use in my videos without getting copyright strikes and stuff though. I'd go without music, but then you'd only hear me swearing. 🤣
As Peter said, both are great. Hard to say which to buy though. The Ultima is great, but it's built on a 30+ year old design, although it is a completely new buggy compared to the original. The RC10 B4 is only a 7-8 year old design. Running them were we did, I couldn't really choose between the two but I'm sure the RC10 would have the edge on a proper RC track. So I think either would be a great choice for general running, but I'd say the RC10 if you plan to race. 👍
Have been watching and freeze-framing the video. You can see the differences in the dampening of the two cars. The RC10 has a bunch of understeer, and the Ultima bounces around a whole bunch. Also the weight distribution, battery east/west for the Ultima and north/south in the middle of the chassis for the B4, and how it effects the cars. Is that the original body Mick? I want a B4 body for the Ultima Sport project I have. Looks better. Thanks for sharing.
Both cars weren't really set up at all, we just ran them how they were. I don't know how the RC10 was set up but the Ultima is bouncy because I have the shock springs set very hard so as not to trash the chassis too much coming off the jumps, of course that makes it harder to drive on the flat areas. Yeah the weight distribution is a bit different, I think I'd prefer the battery to be a little more forward in the Ultima. But we aren't racers or anything, just out for a bash. Yeah that is the original body on the Ultima, I've changed nothing since building it, but will need tyres soon. I think the B4 body would look good on and Ultima. Cheers mate! 👍
Hi mate - great video! How do you find the Team Associated RC10 B4? I usually make tamiya cars/buggies. The B4 seems almost identical to the TRF201. What are your thoughts on the brand? Build Quality? Getting Parts? Thanks and happy Christmas from Sydney!
Hi, sorry for the late reply. This RC10 is a mates car, so I don't know a lot about it. I do know parts are easy to find on eBay. I did drive the RC10 and I can say it's super smooth and goes where you point it. Quality is top notch, as you'd expect from multiple world champ pedigree. If you're thinking of buying one, I say go for it. Hope you had a great Christmas and have a happy new year! 👍
Awesome! I'm running a Trinity Punisher 10.5t motor and a Tekin RS Gen 3 ESC. Part of the reason I chose this ESC is so it fits in the bottom of the chassis nicely as it doesn't have a fan. Most other ESC don't fit because of the fan. My motor is actually below the turn limit for this ESC (I think it's 13.5t limit) but I've had no issues so far, it runs great. Hope this helps. 👍
Thanks! Yeah the Ultima does bounce a lot. It wasn't really set up for best handling, the ride height was set so as to not slap the chassis too much on the higher jumps. I think they both handle great, of course the Ultima would benefit from the shocks not being set so hard. I think the RC10 would have the edge in handling though, purely because of it's much newer design. On this surface the RC10 did feel more planted. 👍
