Dad sang w/ them around 25 yrs.as a lead on the "coveted" front row most of that time. He never elaborated much on the split w/ senior members of the group. I'm glad the tradition here in Louisville did not die with that falling out.
One of my favorite ALBUMS (yep, an LP!) of all time is their Hymns for Men. "O Sacred Head Now Wounded", "Eternal Father Strong to Save". Brings tears and chills just thinking about it.
Hello Elyse McGill, we may have met years back, I sang w/ the Thoroughbred 's on this compitition.in 'Frisco. I was in the Lead section 4/ or 5th in top riser.who was your dad and what voice part did he sing ? thank you
Chris, I was on those risers for that competition. I sang in the Leads.top riser 4or 5th in. and yes I certainly remember both jim and John. and Believe me they were bass.it was such a blast to be involved w/,the Thoroughbred Chorus.
I joined SPEBSQSA when I was a freshman in high school in 1988. I thought this was cool. I am still a member, directing a chorus, three quartet championships (in two different districts) under my belt (qualified in one.) singing in a very new quartet that has the potential to do the same. I now understand why BJS changed the judging guidelines. While good, this ( and pretty much ANY OTHER chorus) in the 70's=early 90's was literally YELLING at us.
I was blessed to have been on the stage with these fine men many times. Awesome singers and masters of the craft.

Yep, Mark Hale in the front row! I can remember when Kip Buckner sang with these guys and he was only about waist high to the rest of the guys!

The choreography means nothing. They dont need it.
