Duffy i hate being the bare of bad news but them u blots are NOT the wright ones they are for ones that have the upper saddle , the correct ones set FLAT on the spring . . I ran Macks for years and ran a company that had a fleet of macks working in the oil field , they got beat pretty hard and we BROKE things . The spring shop we used always had what ya needed , And i did not let my mechanics do spring work the went to the spring shop and change out on both drive springs was and hour job for them boys. . Never just replace one always in pairs.
@jdrogers8720 If you go back to 2.42 you can see that the old spring had a top lip with inverted ends that fitted flush. The new spring does not have this and does not sit flush as you observed. Do you think it will make any difference? Duffy has real balls. hH will have a go at fixing anything. Sometimes he glosses the fix but for this one he is showing the detail.
@@robreesor5011 your right the top spring is wrong to it should be turned up on both ends to support the u bolts to the easiest way to fix it now is to get a cap
@@kevinchesnut8832 no he can use the old cap off the old spring he just needs the proper Ubolts...the spring shop he bought everything at fucked up and gave him the wrong Ubolts.
@@robreesor5011 you can't just blame the spring shop Duffy did buy all the parts I snap a picture to help me remember things but I still do fuckup to but what blows my mind is that he put this all together like this it's not like he did this today so he's been driving the truck like this
That top cap on the old spring pack, is there to keep the u clamps from spreading apart and letting the spring pack float around loosely! It's important! I think your creative enough to loosen the clamps and slip that piece back in. I had to replace the spring packs on more than one old farm truck, it's never a fun project! Last one, broke the U bolts off at the axle housing when I braked hard loaded, to avoid a brake checker. Rear axle shifted 2 inches, caused it to dog track. All while loaded. Got the load delivered and returned home on pins and needles!
Nope those are comepletely the wrong Ubolts man they should be flat across the top of the stack with that block to hold them from slipping...check the video at 3:22 then later as he's trying to mount the stack back on the truck they have a very large arch in the new ones. The cap wont be able to hold those new Ubolts properly...I only hope he hasnt been driving the truck especially loaded...could be a major failor on the roads if he isnt lucky.
the mack problem sounds like our problem with the balers. We got a bunch of net wrap in the pickup and have to rebuild it. On the other baler the hay got wrapped around the pto shaft got the electrical and hydraulic houses destroyed them and pulled the holder down wrapped it around the pto shaft then bent the ladder frame. Yikes.
Don't take this wrong but you need to have someone show you how to use a cutting torch or watch some TH-cam videos. Never saw or heard the oxygen kick in. ****Look at 2:47, compare it to 46:44 you left out a piece that sits on top of the spring and is clamped down by the u-bolts. It will also keep the u-bolts from sliding down to the sides. And notice there is space between the u-bolts and springs (on top).
@@volvojohn9036 he has the wrong Ubolts entirely look at 3:22 then at 41:00 or so and you can see the differance in the Ubolts and the missing retaining cap for the Ubolts.
I feel special I got to see my house on a Duffy ag video lol. Wife said she watched you drive past our truck with your sticker on it parked across from Dunham's and didn't notice. Wish I wasn't sick in bed that day even though I know your a busy guy I would have loved to say hi
Chris, yanko is not cutting it for a helper ,you need full-time help . My friend bite the bullet and get it done , you need to slow down just a bite and a helper will do that .
Yeah Chris buddy I really hope you're not actively driving the mack with the wrong Ubolts man...if you look in the video you can see a Ubolt saddle and squared Ubolts that sit flat in the Ubolt saddle on top of the spring stack and later while you're trying to mount the stack on the truck the new Ubolts have a arch in the top over the stack...where they do not properly contact the stack to compress the stack togther. And while you can use the old saddle from the old stack you really really need to get the proper Ubolts to hold that stack togther...the place you bought them at fucked up and you may not have realized it...but yeah thats a massive possibly deadly wreck waiting to happen man. I would park the truck and get it hauled home if you've already taken it out on the roads or very carefully limp it home to repair it with the proper parts before that spring stack breaks loose and causes a wreck especially if it fails while you're loaded. There is nothing stipping those Ubolts from slipping off the top of the stack forewards or backwards or both and completely coming apart...sorry man but this time no one in the comments is messing with you or trolling you we're hoping to save you from a major major wreck.
@@OOpSjm yeah I saw that on IG. I just hope he see's the coments before he tries to head out hauling with that new spring stack put togther wrong. Duffy, you know through my comments I'm a fan. I'm also always pulling for you and want to see you have great success as time goes by. Pops drove rig out of Buffalo for decades and break downs and corrosion are just a way of life. We always did a floor jack on chipboard or plywood if we weren't on pavement to maneuver stuff like that trunnion into place. Gives you a bit of steering and more precision on height. That and hose everything with WD or PB Blaster or axle grease or that silver anti-seize stuff with the brush that gets all over your hands somehow.

Without the top saddle your u-bolts will likely move. You're putting stress on the corner of the bolt instead of even around the curve

Mack camelback. Rolls in the middle on that middle shaft
Why couldn't the lower U bolts from the inside by frame rails be cut off low by trunnion like the outside ones after removal from truck?
They could but being longer makes it easier to hammer on them and spring shop said that helps to get it lose
Before the keyboard warriors start giving you grief that is a not uncommon issue with broken springs on macks
That's for sure they are tough. 50 years out of a leaf is good enough for me tho
No anti seas? Oh man
Next time this trucks needs a leaf on that side I'll be long gone
What is anti seas?? Is that a nautical term like starboard?
I'll admit I don't know shit about springs. But usually on an old truck they do both sides
Hope it works out for you !!!
