    Thank you for stopping by! In this video, I'm working on a 6x6x2" cradled wood piece. I'm using acrylic paints and mark making tools as I talk through most of my process and also discuss the importance of regularly creating to improve your art over time.
    My work is inspired by my love for fields of flowers. You'll see me create it from start to finish. There's no music, however, you'll hear me talk through a lot of my process and discuss products/tools that I'm using.

    I love the cohesiveness and softness, kindness, happiness and love you put into what you paint. I see so many paintings with scratch marks, lines going everywhere, blotches of paint here and there. They look so angry. And I know anger is a part of art. I prefer the beauty and love. Thanks for giving us your love.

    Great chat with this video, I esp enjoyed your thoughts on the creative journey and sharing yours as well. As someone who did spend time in art school, you probably did yourself a favor by NOT going! I had a professor who would joke “It takes 4 years to get through school, and another 20 to forget it!” Meaning that when you emerge, you’re under the (heavy) influence of all those teachers & formal techniques. It takes time and hard work to develop your own unique voice, something that you have undoubtedly done, and done very well. Thank you for sharing and being an inspiration to creatives at all stages in their journey. ❤️ 🎨 🌸

I'm an interior designer in New Jersey, I can actually see getting 9 woodblock paintings and mounting them to take up an entire wall space. I've done this before with other types of artwork that weren't even slightly as interesting and colorful as yours, and it still turned out spectacular.

    Your style is an inspiration! I've tried to create the way you do and of course it does not resemble what you end up with, but that's ok with me. My work looks like my work, even when I try a different style. That's a good thing! A fellow artist can inspire, but we each have our own quirks that make us unique.

      So true, Stephanie! We can learn from others, but in the end, it's our hands that are doing the work. We all come from different backgrounds and experiences. We apply those (consciously and subconsciously) to our art. Thank you for sharing that!

    Hi Betty. Thank you once again for posting this video and sharing your creative process. You have such a generous and encouraging soul. Covid lockdown in NZ was a huge opportunity to be able to paint without any guilt about not getting the other stuff done first (because it was all done by 9am LOL). There were some days when I stood all day and painted and loved every second of it, despite the outcome!! It was five weeks of glorious creative time and a great way to be distracted from what was happening to other people around the world. Please keep sharing with us, your work is wonderful and fills my soul. Cheers, Deb (NZ)

    Always fun to watch. If you’re still taking questions: (1) how long do these paints stay workable on your pallet and, (2) do you add any retardant to keep them wet longer? Thanks!

    • @BettyFranksArt
      @BettyFranksArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hiya! I think keeping your paints workable is all about where you live. In California, the humidity is around 50-60%, so they're not drying out too fast. But, when I was in Santa Fe a few weeks ago teaching a workshop, I noticed how they were drying out a lot faster. I don't add anything to it to extend the drying time. I just put out how much I think I'll use and then put out more when needed. Thanks so much for watching!

    Hi thanks so much for all your helpful tips. I have an paint issue I'm hoping you might be able to answer. Some of my paintings start to crackle (crazing) after the paint is dry next day. It's usually the white gesso that is the problem, I think it dries at a different rate to the color pigment paint. How do you overcome this?

    • @BettyFranksArt
      @BettyFranksArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, John! What kind of gesso are you using? Is it a high quality brand? Also, where are you located? The weather can play into the drying time. What paints are you using? Are they high quality paints? I once used a house paint (for a painting for my own home) and found that it cracked the next day when it was dry. It wasn't meant for canvas. Hi Betty, I have this nagging question as to why you would so willingly share your technique and encourage anyone else to copy your style. Don't you see it as diluting your brand in some way? I would feel enormous guilt and trepidation if I would copy your style and present it as my art. How are we to learn your technique yet paint a piece that's authentically ours. I know people copy the masters all the time, but this just seems different somehow. Like plagiarism!?!😬😁

    • @BettyFranksArt
      @BettyFranksArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yay, I totally understand what you're talking about. Like you said, I would hope that folks would feel enormous guilt and trepidation if they copied my exact style and sold it as their own. I believe that everyone comes to their art from their own experiences and that, with lots of practice and studio time, they come to their own style of expressing themselves through their art. I'm staying true to my own art and the love I have for fields of flowers. I'm sure that many folks will get there too. In the meantime, they're learning from others (like me). I hope that answer helps!

      I found the packaging materials. I got them at Jerry's Artarama. Thank you for watching!

    Beautiful! I love it! Have a question for you: how do you hang these cradled panels? Do you just put them right up on the wall as is, or do you need to put some kind of hanging hardware on them? How do you yours? Thanks in advance!

      Thanks, Ima! I will add a wire hanger to the back so that the person has the option to either hang it or let it stand on their desk/shelf or where ever. Thank you for watching!
