Oh wow 💕 I am drooling over your stash of yarn... some lovely colors! I don't knit but I crochet and am currently working on a lap blanket for my sister. My new mantra is one project at a time. Congrats for getting so organized!
I enjoyed your vlog immensely and here is my tip for storage. I use to pick a pattern and then have to go through all my yarn to see what matched the yarn I needed. Now, rather than go through six times as much yarn as you have in your stash, I keep all the #1 yarns together, all the #2’s, all the #3’s, etc. all the bulky #5’s etc. I mark the number in large black permanent pen on the outside of the see-thru storage containers. I knit and crochet lots of dishcloths, too, so that yarn is kept separate and also works well in Amigurumi. My downfall for a long time was sock yarn because I visited family in Germany every year and without all the taxes and import fees, it cost half what we pay for a skein in the States. Think Opal. 😮 I keep all the sock yarn together for socks, mittens, gloves, fingerless gloves and stuffed animals. I, too, gave away yarn during my last purge but the most fun was taking all the old Red Heart acrylic and I crocheted six or seven afghans last winter. Just lay out the skeins to mix and match and go for it. I also took three skeins together and mixed and matched crocheting a huge basket with handles 🧺 to hold my current projects. They whip up FAST. I probably used 12 different variegated partial skeins for it….really cute. I am religious about returning my needles and hooks to their proper places so I never have to dig through projects looking for them. Currently, I am knitting my first adult-sized cardigan and never stop until I am finished BUT I also have a small crochet project and a small knitting project so if my hands get tired with the #5 cardigan yarn needles, I can switch to crocheting or smaller knitting needles. I listen to audiobooks and haven’t turned on a t.v. in three years but I do love TH-cam on my iPad. Go back to one of your unfinished knitting projects and finish it! You will feel so much better and it will spur you on to finish others. Three years ago I got out about 20 half-finished x-stitch projects, finished everyone that winter and framed everything. It took three months but all are done and it was a great feeling. So what of the x-stitch baby announcement sampler was for a child who was now 10! It was my own granddaughter and since my d-I-l wasn’t interested in it 🙁 I hung it next to all my granddaughter’s photos in my bedroom. Glad I could keep it!
That's such a great way to organize yarn! And I'm so glad you at least got to keep the baby announcement and hang it up!! I will definitely be working on finishing my projects as well 😄
Tackling my yarn stash the past four days. Accumulating over six years. First time. Lol. Very ambitious of me after recovering from a surgery. Gal bladder removal. Some very late late nights and only few hanks left. But 3/4 bags of full yarn balls after starting with seven. Eep. Any suggestions ? Help!! Days 1-3 rolling small balls into cakes. Today has been emptying the large drawer
I immediately went to Ravelry to look up the Coast to Coast wrap my favourite is the GabiesKnitGoodies colourway on etsy but has quite a pricetag. Will definitely purchase the pattern by Alexandre Tavel.
Hii! New subie here :-) I loved watching this video! I wish my second hand/ thrift stores would sell more yarn but I feel like crochet and knit is dead in my city🤣 sometimes germany is pretty boring
Actually I very often unravel thrift shop sweaters and reuse the yarn. Are you try that? If you find sweater that have hole or some spot you can get it very cheap.
