For anyone confused this is NOT the Broadway cast recording. This was a promotional eight track recording given out to promote the play when it was still in San Francisco. Als whoever put this together left out the Thirst reprises.
I’ve heard ppl say this musical is bad…HOW??? THIS IS AMAZING!! As a musical and Anne Rice fan this is gold- I wish they’d bring it back so I could see it live
I saw it on it's premiere night in NYC. The music was great and the singing talent, but if you had never read the vampire chronical books before you would have been totally lost as the scripted storyline was not great. I had to explain to my brother during the interval and then when it was finished as he had never read the books. I think it would do well if new writers looked at it
Anne Rice loved it but idk why it flopped. Never saw it but it got wiped from the face of the earth aparently with no plan to release the cast recording they made because they didn't have the money to distribute it. All we have is this promo from SF and leaks of it live, as well as Elton Johns demo tape for it
Had to comment to give the uploaded a huge thank you for putting this together with time stamps, setting information, and indicators of who is singing. It makes all of the difference with enjoying these nearly lost songs! Thank you for all of the time and attention to detail that went into this upload.
Wow, this is fantastic. I saw the show in 2006. At the time I wasn’t familiar with Anne Rice’s books, but it was certainly a strange and at times beautiful spectacle. I’ve heard the Elton demos of the songs over the years (I love “Welcome to the New World”), but I’d never heard these cast versions. It’s really a shame that the cast recording was never released, as the cast was really wonderful and these songs make for a good listen. Hopefully at some point the full recording will see the light of day.
I saw the New York production. They changed the show around quite a bit from The San Francisco show to the Broadway opening. From what i understand the Broadway was almost a totally different show. Since I never got to see the SF production, its nice to at least have this.
I don't understand why shows do not release cast recordings when they have recorded the show already. If they released it only digitally, I don't see how this wouldn't just be bringing money in at this point. May not be a lot of money. Although, it may if it inspires interest in the show to produce it regionally.
LESTAT How can this be? This devil leaves. And God abandons me. I'm left here looking at these flames. That too could set me free. The vessel that I used to be is tainted now and ripped apart. Bathed in madness by that fiend who's robbed me of my human heart. My life is gone, but I live on. Dead, but still alive. Lost to those who loved me once, A demon now inside. For here I am a thing of darkness, Thrown from this ungodly swoon Immortal from a savage kiss Kept from my eventual tomb. But wait, did I invite this fate? This invitation from the damned. This introduction to the dark was never in my mortal plan. And if indeed this cruel joke was somehow in my destiny. Should I embrace its wicked ways and haunt the night for what I need? To die in such a way and simply to be born again. A thing of terrifying strength, a bringer of bewitching pain And blood become the drug I need. Will blood fulfill the thirst in me? The thirst that sends them to their grave, The thirst for that which I now crave. This thirst. This thirst is strong. It overpowers all right and wrong The thirst, I feel it coming on. The thirst, I feel it coming on. The thirst. I feel it coming on!
shout out to the guy coughing during "embrace it"

I would love to hear the entire play, the audio here is amazing!

How can this be?
This devil leaves.
And God abandons me.
I'm left here looking at these flames.
That too could set me free.
The vessel that I used to be is tainted now and ripped apart.
Bathed in madness by that fiend who's robbed me of my human heart.
My life is gone, but I live on.
Dead, but still alive.
Lost to those who loved me once,
A demon now inside.

Thrown from this ungodly swoon
Immortal from a savage kiss
Kept from my eventual tomb.

Correction on my earlier comment. That Embrace it isn't even a promotional recording. You can hear coughing!
14:15 i want more
Was this ever put out on CD ?
There is a demo recording I found in a smaller store on the internet for $35, but didnt buy it so I dont know if its worth it
Is this the cast with Jack Noseworthy?
Oh, nooo, no no. Too much like Disney
that’s bc elton john wrote the music for this and the lion king
@@thevampchronicles2009 I know that
Perhaps a bit. I can only imagine what another composer (maybe Frank Wildhorn) would have done instead.
@@ShadowsofthePastTheater maybe have a look at "Dracula", thats Wildhorns form of vampire musical :)
