Since the word "sandcastle" is used for any art made with sand, they call an actual sandcastle a "sandcastle castle".

Just discovered your videos and have decided I REALLY want to get into creating castles on the beach. I traditionally dislike the beach. However, I am drawn to the concept of developing these masterpieces. Thank you for your content, it has given me a sound foundation to build upon (pardon the pun). I am a chef by trade and have a lot of experience using spatulas so hopefully that helps. If I ever manage to create something that someone stops and compliments, you betcha I'll be telling them "dont compliment me, compliment Andy". From Australia with ❤

Hi Natalie! - yes it's very well-trained and if it behaves it gets a treat!! - seriously - its got soo many different minerals in it and a nice balance of clay and silt so it holds together very well - there is another beach just up the coast where the clay content is higher due to ship lane dredging - and that is even more awesome but alas their beach isn't as nice as ours! where do you build in the world?

I tried to make 100 arches on one castle. I got to 63, hard on the back. Crazy thing I made one castle, came back 3 days later and 1 arch was still standing
I got handstacking to work. I filled the bucket this time with water and then made sure to almost fill it with sand. I made 5 arches. On only my 5th castle I've ever made. Handstacking is a game changer. so much fun
HighStreet Killers great work..you kept experimenting and THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT U HAVE TO DO. the Hand stacking is a game changer as it enables you to join forms together and add exterior details that get rid of the bucket shape..AWESOME JOB

I've made 15 castles now, I've gotten good and all your advice is very true. I won't spray my buckets with WD 40 though, probably helps but i do ok without. I need to be like you now and carve atop a barrel. My back is killing me. I was going 2 and 3 times a week.Too much for me
HighStreet Killers anyone tried the “drizzle” castle method? Similar to handstack but water does most of the work. I tend to get a better reaction to those on the beach than the cut and formed castles.

Yes we have some of the best Sand in the world for building quickly and with reliable results - you can push the limit a lot here - but if you want to know what your sand is like - just do the ball test! - If you can make a ball and lift it from the ground you are golden! - Welcome to the #Sandnation

an easier way to get these and better tools for sand sculpting is to go to your nearest pawn shop and get masonry tools. They're cheap, metal, durable and VERY effective. I've been using them for years.

Tiny Destin Hi Tiny..not like Destin one little bit..i have done work at Navarre and down 35 a ways and a bucket of glue could form that sand into what we do as it is a fractured, granular sub angular quartz..low soft packing is what it's for..when you coming to Texas to try the best? #wedontdoboring #Sandcastle

I start building a 2nd castle beside it and watch it dry up and fall. It's cool, and arches can last longer than main tower. I got hardcore cause i saw my castles that were 1 and 2 weeks old.They were piles of loose sand

Maybe i cant hand stack cause i dont have enough sand in the bucket. I've tried with not much sand in alot of water. Didn't work. I'll try bringing a shovel and screen. I'm at a natural beach, lots of stones and sticks. When i've carved stairs the down sideways out in lift method didn't work. Down and just out worked best for me
Hi there - if you are at a "Natural" beach you will need to clear the top layer with all of its debris and then dig clean sand to fill you hand stacking bucket. You need a 5 gallon bucket, half full of water then put in clean sand until it starts to come out of the top of the water. then you are ready. Then make sure the sand is loosened before you lift it out and do it qiuckly and smoothly as slow only looses its liquid. Also shells in sand are a no no as they trap a layer of air on their surfaces causing weakness in the block and are very annoying when carving as the surface tears all the time when you catch one. Hope this helps

Windex Real names are offset spatulas. Look up offset spatula on amazon, there are all sizes you would need (sizes for small and large spatula)
Normal offset spatulas have a rounded end, so if you want to have the tool like Andy has, cut the end off. I recently got a small offset spatula, and was able to cut the end using tin snips. Hope this helps!

@@victoriacorey2823 , easy! - look up sandpits nr you, go see them , explain what you want and ask to see sample of sand, or take some home in buckets, buy shapers, or use tools you have and test! Washed river silt is usually excellent, bit of clay in there but makes it stronger,. You want sand with no small stones whatsoever and if its good, but has some, screen the sand before you stack it. Yes - they will all think you are crazy but who cares, you'll be happy and its a fun road trip and experience, Done it many times including building small castle in front of giant loader drivers who became fascinated.
let me know - there are pits in Boise, cascade and horseshoe bend as far as i can see - ask locally and you will find what you need. Want local - ask a local - and see if there are other folks who share your passion locally as great minds think alike!
