I hear about the rude surgeons, long hours, OR drama, etc. Still the career I'm pursuing, with the ultimate goal of traveling. I assume you would recommend since you've been in the field for so long?
Megan Metz It is not discrimination if it is the patients wishes. If they don't provide this for those who have modesty and dignity wishes that is reverse discrimination. Think about it. Women don't have male techs for mammograms do they? Absolutely not because women yell until they get the team they want. Why do men have to have women handle their penis or do scrotal ulltrasounds or catheterization with another strange female chaperone, not for him but for them. Women only have to say no to recieve same gender care. That is discriminatory for male patients that want the same respect.
Ummmm I don't know what people have told you but I've had a mammogram done by a male tech. I've had gynecology exams by a male doctor before. It is not the end of the world. They are doctors.
Meg LM Umm in our area they say they will not hire a male for mammograms my wife asked as she told them no mammogram if she had a male. She absolutely refuses. Who are you kidding? And you CHOOSE your gynecologist. So missy don't presume to know everything. Patients have the right to deny any treatment if you are uncomfortable with what will be done. Have had TURP, degraded by female scrub tech, will never ever do it again. I will suffer. I will read any consent forms, mark what I will and will not accept and if not my way, will refuse treatment. No catheter by females, no TURP with females, no more young female cna, young enough to be my granddaughter, demanding to give me a shower which I refused and made her mad. The last I knew this is my body, not the hospital or clinics. I pay dearly for insurance and still have a huge bill after treatment. I have had enough embarrassment and l am taking control of my body not someone else. There are sites by doctors about medical modesty and that we all, men and women have a right to be respected . That if we feel strongly about not wanting opposite gender we should be given this respect without prejudice.

But of course since it is women's health it is not discriminatory . Right. Men's health clinics still have female staff that are forced on a man for PRIVATE, intimate area care. Something not right here.
