I remember getting an orange and an apple in my Christmas Stocking as a child.
I still put them in for me and the family hihihi
I really miss having Norwegian risegrod (slow-cooked rice pudding) around the Winter Solstice since my Dad passed away. He would spend several hours on it near Christmas Eve; when the rice grains were nearly dissolved via simmering, he'd pour it into individual bowls, sprinkle the whole surface of each bowl of pudding with sugar and cinnamon, and then put a pat of butter in the center of each bowl. We were instructed to start eating the pudding from the edge of the bowl inward while the butter melted and spread out, as that symbolized the rebirth of the sun. He explained all these details to me about a year before he died, as he realized that I had a strong interest in folklore and mythology. So, basically, the risegrod meal was a kind of communal Winter Solstice food ritual that even devout Christians enjoy in Scandinavia... :)

I live in Florida, where its usually too hot, and dominated by christian beliefs, so videos like this are especially important for me. I often celebrate our (pagan) holidays alone, and I'm glad to know others find the same joy during these days that I do!
For me, its finally cooled off enough for a cozy sweater, hot coffee or tea infused with herbs, and decorating my little crone cottage with pinecones, dried oranges, lots of candles and reindeer ornaments. I will do some baking later, as well, and build a big fire!

This year's "Isiah" decorations that are gifts to my loved ones are finally done. Now comes the insanity of finding a box appreciate for each gift. But it's done finally.
This year everyone is getting a Palm" frond that is interwoven together.
Last year I gave everyone a hand weaved basket made from pine needles.
Our Tradition says that gifts should always be hand made and Magickal.. beyond those 2 parameters have fun and get " Witchy" . In all honesty the pine needle baskets was handed down to me by some very headstrong Native American women in my family. Hoping that you and your family have a fantastic Solstice

I just love this video. It's funny, I find myself going back to the "old" ways. It's magical how that just happens! Some of my ancestors were from Bavaria. I heard my Great-Grandmother made the best little cakes! Wishing you and your adorable children a Very Joyous Season!

I love the changes made during the straw craft. The second you said to iron them straight I said to myself " I'm out" lol then you said " duck that" and I was right back in with the hair straightener. Lol

We call them Räuchermännchen - they are all over the Christmas markets together with the lovelies inscent cones
it's really hard to ballance my celebrations, because I live in the south hemisphere and we're in summer, so I actually would be celebrating Litha now and Yule in june, which is weird because as I celebrate litha, everyone is celebrating christmas haha

I like having stews and soups during winter that help with colds and flu I use basil, parsley,thyme, rosemary, garlic, peppers, cabbage, onions, carrots, turnips, broccoli, cauliflower, chicken or beef in my soups and stews.
Just an idea, what about making a video about the magical and healing properties, effects of soups and stews over the winter months if you didn't do that yet, seems like something you would be really good at doing, plus I like the way you explain thing it makes a lot of sense

I just got home from gathering driftwood to make a hanging tree for my friend. Crafting with nature is one of my main connections. I’m thrilled to see your little straw stars, those are on my to do list ❤

My BF is a landscaper and i tell him to save me nice piece of wood and three of them I used in christmas presents this year. I made a suncatcher with wood burned art & local mermaids toenails seaglass and beach quartz hanging from it :)

In the Caucasus, over this time of year, the persimmons are in fruit. They loose their leaves at beginning of December, but the bright orange and red fruit stays on the trees. The people leave them until the snows, as this makes them soft and sweet. It looks like Christmas bobbles all over. Also grape Vines grow around them and to me this seems to be a better origin to the idea of Christmas decor on the tree than the gruesome origins some histories give

The snowiness looks so pretty there. Here in Northern Illinois in the US it’s snowy but also cloudy, windy, and just disgusting outside right now to the point the snow doesn’t even look pretty at all.
on sunny days it definitely is pretty! But even on grey days I love the magical white *rather then sludge and mud hahah

I did dried orangez the other year - no bueno for tropical Hawaii haha they got reeeally slimey & moldy
No salt dough deco here either - th salt attracts the moisture...
Mulling spicez in jarz & hanging garlandz of cinnamon stix iz a win tho!! Classic mulling spicez on the stove (cleanzing the air & aiding health when drunk) & candlez all about (to bring a bit of warmth & dryness to improve the health of the house) in the rainy seazon are fave.
I can imagine 😅 dried fruit definitely doesn't work in all climates hihi

I love the window decoration with orange and pinecones! I've been making gingerbread wreaths for table decorations, one for me, the rest for friends. Placed on a table with a candle in the centre they look attractive and make the entire room spicy-fragranced. I love your vids, they brighten up my day 😍

@@Thewitchescookery oh das ist mir gar nicht aufgefallen. Ich kenn das Brett von Jürgens Mama die richtet darauf Wurst oder belegte Brötchen an. Die Schürzen sind leider nicht so toll. Die erste wurde falsch bestickt und leider konnte ich die Farbe nicht mehr auf weiß ändern. Bei dem letzten Kochevent ist mir nämlich aufgefallen dass das Mehl an deinem orangen Pulli haften blieb 😊

Decorating with all those natural things also makes the house smell great! 😄 The pottery mug was a gift from a friend from the states - I think she got it at home depo. The little 'Räuchermännchen' is very traditional Christmas decor in Germany - I got it at a local Christmas market

They are suuuuper common in Germany. You can buy them everywhere around Christmas time. They are called 'Räuchermännchen'

It reminded me of a word In Japanese culture, a hatsuyume (Japanese: 初夢) is the first dream one has in the new year. Traditionally, the contents of such a dream would foretell the luck of the dreamer in the ensuing year.

Can you please advise me on drying the orange slices? I tried to make them today. I sliced them about 1/4" thick and baked them for about 4 1/2 hours at 200f. They seem hard but have a little wetness to them.
I always dry mine on the radiators to not waste energy. Takes a bit of patience and depending on climate 1-3 days :)

@@frankieamsden7918 in my experience it takes quite a bit in the oven - can be up to 12 hours. In a hot, dry climate you can air-dry them (takes multiple days). Or if you have an air fryer you can give that a go for 3 H on a low temperature

Hi you! The zoom meetings are open to the tier 3 patreons only :) I usually host them on the weekends and for full or new moons. I usually choose somewhere around 1800 or 20:00 CET (which is morning / midday for the states)
