  • This heartfelt song was written by a Vineyard worship leader/Pastor called Kelly Carpenter.
It speaks to our primal need of relationship with God, of being known by Him and knowing Him; of being near to Him and of His being near to us. It speaks of the reassurance that His presence gives us, while we encounter the trials of life, knowing that God is ALWAYS with us and never leaves. It speaks of the prodigal son whose father runs to meet him upon his return, reflecting the embrace by God of every soul and every repentant soul, that is able to take sanctuary in Him.
It speaks of the scattered disciples, of Moses aged 40, unrecognised by his people, and on the run into Midian, away from judgement and danger. It speaks of a people in bondage in Babylon, yearning for a return to their land and to their God.
It speaks of the Pharisees and our own outward appearance of righteousness but capacity for inner corruption (God have mercy on us all).
It speaks of a people hungry and thirsty in their souls for the living water that Jesus offered to the Samaritan woman at the well.
It speaks of our exchange of sorrows for joy, ashes for gladness; the rags of sin, for the robes of God’s righteousness.
In writing about this song Kelly Carpenter said that he related it to knowing how to be with God rather than doing things for God.
Lord , as you taught us in St John chapter 15, help us to abide in you, and you in us.
    John 15:4 KJV
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
When we are weary, worn, wounded, help us to abide, recover, be regenerated, restored.
Help us focus on You and know that in all places that we find ourselves, You are near, present and available.
We love and thank you for your grace, Father.
Here is a further reading on God’s gift of righteousness to us:
    Romans 3:21-26 NIV
[21] But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.
[22] This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,
[23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
[24] and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
[25] God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood---to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished--- j
[26] he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
