So you get the field position advantage because of your great punter AND a much bigger chance for your team to score on each possession, but your punter's net is lower. You just never see great net punting yards on good teams. It's why special teams coaches don't care about net yards as a total stat. They care a lot more about how accurate a punter is. All that said, Cooke really does help his team because he has a strong leg and is accurate (puts it on the sideline), it's just that net yards is not a good measure of a punter by itself, it's more a measure of the failure of the offense.
That commentator is the “voice of the Jaguars” Brian Sexton. He has been calling games on TV, radio and was originally the in-stadium announcer since I believe the very first Jags game back in 1995. For some reason after Ray Guy retired from the Raiders, punters were seen as an after thought by NFL teams. Ray Guy won games by his remarkable punting. If I was an NFL owner I would recruit the best legs I could find including foreign soccer, rugby or Australian-rules football players...no American football experience needed, just punt a football consistantly over 65 yards.
Ray Guy who played 14 years for the Raiders as an outstanding punter. Widely considered to be the greatest punter of all time. He had unbelievable hang-time and Consistently pinned his opponents inside the 20 yard line.

Please consider, as well, that a punter usually sets up 15yds behind the line of scrimmage and the punt comes off their foot, depending upon the circumstance and approach, around 12yds behind the line. So that 65yd punt was actually, in this case, because he was in the endzone and couldn't set up as far back as he usually would, more like a 75yd punt. This is where punters have always been robbed when it comes to stats. Field Goals are marked at the point of the hold (7-8 yds) plus the distance from the goal line to the goal post (10 yds). And field goal kickers get full credit for every yard. Yet punters never get credit for the extra 12 or so yards that they deserve. Just saying.
Arguably the Best Punter, and we drafted arguably the Best Kicker in the NFL. We get Laser Lawrence going with an improved O-line, the 60-yard PLUS Smeagle-Lookin magnum Little, the Staple-you-to-the-wall punter Cooke. D-Line that's not afraid to make some tackles. Getting a little excited here....

Yeah. Once upon a time, @ 25 -26 years of age, I stood behind an endzone, just fooling around, and kicked the ball. It was a perfect spiral, and it went out the back of the other endzone, 120 yards away. True story, and it was witnessed at the time by a guy named Brian Mills. No, the ball did not travel in the air the whole way... how far in the air it went, I have no idea, I couldn't exactly tell. But it was pretty far. Parents never let me play any traditional sports because my uncle blew his knees out one year when he was playing little league. So I never got to play that, never played football, basketball; all I did get to do was run track and cross country. Sometimes I wonder what could have been, since I was also kicking 40 yard field goals in 8th grade with friends, but of course THAT is not so unusual; plenty of kids can do that. As kids, that was mostly all we had; cowboys and Indians, bicycling, and sports. Yeah I'm a bit of an old fart nowadays. 😄
