I like the narrative here that the creepy guy accidentally gave the dongle a suggestive name, and then he just decided to lean into it every meeting after that.
What he said that day traumatized him forever, the dongle broke him. His greatest invention was also the cause of his downfall.

One thing I've always wondered: does Ryan have, like, a Google doc of all the worldbuilding details he's developed over the course of these sketches? There's so many little tidbits, and yet so much internal consistency. I wonder how he keeps track of it all.
He addressed this in one of the recent pitch meeting revisited videos. He said he sometimes forgets include a bit that he’s been doing for a while, so I assume there is no checklist to follow.
If you're a writer, you tend to just remember stuff and insert it in when appropriate. At least that's my experience when writing and video making.

ryan finally answered the age-old question of whether the fruit or color of orange came first, which turns out it was the fruit
Fun fact: the screwdriver (the drink, not the tool) was named because oil rig workers who wanted to drink on the job without getting caught would pour vodka into their orange juice and stir it with a screwdriver (the tool, not the drink) because they didn't have a spoon on hand.
Also, the tool was named that because it _drives_ a _screw_ (so named because it means to twist around something, like the wedge wrapped around the fastener) into something.
Also, grapefruit _was,_ in fact, called that because it grows in bunches like grapes do.
And eggplants _do_ look like eggs when they're immature. They turn purple later on.
And football is actually a group of different sports, including association football (soccer), rugby football, and gridiron football. The name soccer was actually invented at Oxford University.
I didn't know that soccer was named at Oxford University, I thought it was strictly an American sport and only called that in America and then Football outside of America for the round ball. But why called the egg-shaped ball sport football in America and rugby elsewhere, can't they have the same name or maybe different shaped balls as they are 2 different sports?
@@IsabelJones69 It's just a case of divergent language evolution (likely due to the fact that, between the industrial revolution and the world wars, the US was much more culturally isolated from Europe than Euopean countries were from each other thanks to being so geographically distant while also no longer being part of the British Empire)
The US retained the colloquial word for Association Football (soccer), used just "football" for the rules developed there (American Football/NFL football), and uses "rugby" as the name for the rugby football rules inherited from Britain (which is itself a distinct sport from American Football with different rules and its own league)
I never noticed that Weird Pervy Guy was just a regular guy back in the dongle sketch.

Maybe, one of the only episodes where he doesn’t appear is the naming body parts episode, where they name tongue, and in dongle it says “rolls off the tongue”. Therefore, chronologically, it makes sense
If you watch the dongle sketch in retrospect, it comes off like he completely intended to infiltrate their naming company with dirty ideas.

I think animal grouping names would be a fun addition to this series. Like how a group of rhinos is a crash, a group of cats is a cuddle, and a group of crows is a murder.
It would definitely be the weird goth guy who names a "murder" of crows since he's the one who comes up with "crowbar." I want to say his name is Rufus.

How Things Got Their Name and The First Guy are honestly my favorites on this channel. The idea of just a disgruntled department trying their best to name things is great.

One thing that i love about this compilation is that it shows the connecting forces, including characters and their stories. It really shows the care he took.
What's wrong with people reposting their content? As a creator, it's a good way to get something back in the algorithm that you feel deserves more views. And as a viewer, you can just ignore it if you've already seen it.

That's because he's writing them into the fabric of existence. The words fade from the page and into the ether as soon as he is finished writing them.
You see, the naming things company has many competitors. Proprietary invisible ink is the only way to make sure their inventions aren't stolen.
