    That baton twirler is something else! She's doing one-arm cartwheels while twirling the baton. Incredible athleticism.

    Busby Berkeley`s choreography was quite unconventional and revolutionary which none of his predecessors had never imagined. He was the real choreographer.

      maybe he could have been a good drill sergeant....he was good at imagining patterns for the camera yes....but a dance choreographer he most certainly wasn't..didn't know the first thing about dance moves..look it up

    The choreography and music beautifully blended together everthing fits.. Can anyone who knows about Carole Landis and what she looked like tell me if she is at 1:10 &1:11 throwing the football what form for a women in 1937 throwing a football she had a better form even then the guy or the last girl with glasses. I am fascinated with Carole her story is both fascinating inspiring but yet tragic. This was her first movie a bit part but motion picture stars have to start somewhere. She became famous in 1 million B.C. She even dated Busby Berkeley. I will always have a crush on her eventhough she has been gone from earth since 1948. Carole Landis darling rest in eternal peace.

      Nope, but you can spot Berkeley's influence not just in the work of Leni Reifenstahl (both her and Goebbels being fans), but also in German musicals from the period.The big production number for 'Ich brauche keine Millionen' (a song ripped off for the theme tune of The Muppet Show) is a classic example of that. Some of his musicals were banned in Germany for the same reasons they wouldn't have been been released uncut after the Hays Code, but he was popular among directors who could get import copies of them.

    • @esmeephillips5888
      @esmeephillips5888 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I reckon that was how Warner lost out to RKO and MGM in musicals as the Thirties moved forward from Dick Powell, Ruby Keeler and Berkeley. It wasn't only that they worked the '42nd St' formula too hard; Jack Warner was too cheap to buy the very best Songbook-era composers, who could write hot or sweet with equal inspiration. A musical needs hits more than a well-constructed scenario.
      For example: Metro persuaded Cole Porter to come away from Broadway by offering him $70,000 for seven songs in 'Born to Dance'. Even before it came out, they upped the ante to $100,000 for his next score. Fred and Ginger had Kern and Fields, the Gershwins and Irving Berlin writing for them.
      WB's tunesmiths were more journeyman. Not saying that is true of Warren and Dubin or Mercer in general, but Harry was becoming tired of Hollywood- he yearned to write sacred music- and Johnny was a beginner. Korngold was Jack Warner's idea of a composer: someone who could not and should not have to work on light musicals.
