The number of regular season NBA games (and Euroleague games) would likely have to be reduced for that to be logistically feasible. I'm not sure how fans would feel about the change.
Players are already getting hurt because they are moving way more than they used too, more games would be literally career ending for some people. Think about Jayson Tatum, he played almost every one of the 82 regular season games, every game of the playoffs (19) and a handful of Olympic games. Any more than that and he may have gotten hurt. We hear a lot about teams who go through rebuilding and get young cores that they can bring up and help improve (to the point of winning a championship), but I can't think of any real world examples of this, seems like every team has some sort of superstar to go along with their roster (even if they have a young core). Are there many teams that have won a championship organically through this rebuilding that didn't have a superstar (mostly asking this as a Rockets fan who wants to understand what the potential path forward could look like for them to win a championship in the future)?
I'm liking the NBA cup because it produces some really good games where the players seem to play hard and I like the the point differential stuff. But yeah I'm not going to act like I actually care who wins the cup or that it means anything 🤣
I agree with most of what you said about the clutch player of the year award but if they do it right it won't be just the guy who scored the most buzzerbeaters and instead have some actual stakes. If we use that same logic then the MVP is just the guy who scored the most points which is not true. Rewarding clutch moments and looking back at them is great. JR Smith couldn't touch an MVP but he sure as hell would win clutch player of the year cementing a legacy to be remembered.

Hey could you do a deep dive into some of the NBA teams identifies for this season and maybe they identify as an organization I think it'd be pretty cool
I don’t think secondary awards during the seasons changes much I kind of think about it like when new belts are introduced in the wwe it’s not about the award it’s about who won it there’s so many players that their greatness is lost to history because all we can do is reference stats or plays that feel irrelevant to the modern nba
The NBA CUP should give the 10th pick to the winner, so in that way, contenders would play to win it, it would rise the stakes and make it a lot more competitive, also, don't make it east vs west
ngl i thought this was gonna be like the REALLY irrelevant ones like the sportsmanship trophy, though honestly that Twyman-Stokes story its named after is really inspiring
the cup doesn't mean anything because all the prize is is money, like sure it's cool for players but essentially nothing for fans. with the english FA cup, winning earns a place in a continental competition, that your regular season position may not give you (like manchester united last season). nba is a closed league though so you can't mess with seeding too much but if they add draft picks or something as incentive, it could add more importance
Well I could say same for people who hyperfocus on stats. Stats do have a place somewhere but it's not the be all and end all, since if there is one stat that does matters then it's clearly number of rings and how much did you contribute to get that ring. Which in my reasoning, the 73 wins Warriors are still inferior to the 72 wins Bulls mainly because they won the ring that year. I'm not at all saying the 73 Warriors are a bad team, quite the opposite but not winning the championship when that's all that really matters in the post season is kinda just saying you got lucky in the regular season but when teams actually start to analyze and sit down to learn how to beat your own team specifically and you cant win the whole series then that is a clear stain on your record. I know Donkey Kong got suspended on that series but why the hell did it even reach to that level in the first place and why was there no serious consequences to his actions prior to that event? It's not like it was the first time it happened to Donkey? He is like that simply because the team doesn't care about him acting like that despite being a contributor to the team. Look at Dennis Rodman for example on the 72 wins Bulls.. He sure was one of the craziest players off the court but on the court, his team made sure he did his part on the team and wasn't just getting himself ejected off the court during the most important games.. I don't care what you do off the court, some of the most famous NBA players are just awful human beings but that doesn't stop them from being great ON the court.

I like the NBA Cup, but I don't think there should be an NBA Cup MVP (given to LeBron last year). It takes up under ten games of the season. It's arguably less impressive than winning a player of the month award. Also, there's now five awards labelled as some kind of MVP (regular season, NBA Cup, All-Star, Conference, and Finals). That's just way too many. I think that the NBA cup though was a good idea. There's another accomplishment to fight for and it helps make the start of the season more interesting. I think the value of it will increase with time once people get used to it, and I think it will especially be seen as more valuable if a team ever wins an NBA double (both the cup and the chip). It gives players some early competitive basketball, giving worse teams a reason to be competitive (they can win something) and help incentive the good teams from slacking off. I do think though that the NBA Cup should be a little longer. I think group play should be at least 8-10 games. And I think those 8 games plus the NBA Cup tournament should be spread out further and should end with the Cup game during All-Star weekend. I think having a longer tournament will inflate the Cup's importance and having the Final during All-Star weekend will give it more spectacle.
