    Your statement about taxes is just plain wrong in Vic 3’s context, let me explain:
    -Peasants consume very little goods (due to low wages and sol), thus, you want to get rid of your peasants as fast as possible and give them productive jobs, you do that in the fastest way possible by maximizing taxes and building loads of construction sectors, as long as you are spending/investing more money in your country then you’re extracting from the economy you’ll still encourage consumption. Not taxing peasants in order to raise their SoL and consumption is pointless since they’re peasants and won’t consume much anyway. A piece of evidence for this is when you were on very low taxes and had only 10 average SoL, I can understand why you would believe this and you can still grow your economy massively while ignoring everything I said here (especially as super germany) but your growth will be impaired.
    -once you get rid of the peasants and start using labor saving pms you should minimize taxes though, as your construction sectors won’t be very useful if you don’t have a lot of migration

    • @Tarkusarkusar
      @Tarkusarkusar  หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      I agree largely with what you said here. Prussia doesn't have as massive a peasant population as other empires, but yeah, it can be a solid strat to max out taxes, rush construction, and then slowly bring down taxes as you de-peasant. Ultimately, the benefits that minimal taxes bring in terms of legitimacy and radical/loyalist generation do make it wise to be on super low taxes anyway.
      Also, it's less complicated to explain to potentially new players that taxes tend to be bad, since I'm trying to counter a lot of the "LOOK AT MY MASSIVE BUDGET" clickbait that's out there, since it angers me when people are proud to be sucking up taxes and not using them.

    You are wrong about taxes. In real life what you say is true. In Victoria 3 the state can invest as well. You may have found that after a period of building up, you have problems with the price levels. They are too depressed and thus reducing construction and reducing taxes helps boost demand so that you build again. The problem here is not taxes but money. Every country "prints" some over time and with tech that amount increases. Demand is determined by SOL. The higher the sol the more demand for products. Sol depends of the wealth accumulated by the pops. How to increase you country's wealth. Simple. The first method is gold mines, which directly increases minting and causes inflation of prices. The second is exports which both increases the price of goods and brings wealth in. The third is merchantilism's 45 per cent tariff on everything that can be produced, so that you don't import stuff yourself. The forth is diplomatic pacts of any kind. Try that and you can tax them to oblivion and still increase construction.

    • @fileleutheros2577
      @fileleutheros2577 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      Speaking in reverse of course you need to reduce things that make money disappear. Unrealized taxes used to be the biggest culprit. The second recent one is dividends efficiency. It's bad enough that it depresses growth but it also makes money disappear, because your pops have already forked out the money for the products only for them to disappear halfway. Such an ill thought design. The contribution effienciency on the other hand should increase wealth, because the money they pay is less than the money being used. In the past the investment pool was also a net negative on wealth when you couldn't spend it and it accumulated, especially for the ai countries.

    • @Tarkusarkusar
      @Tarkusarkusar  หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I don't think what you're saying is demonstrably true if you just play the game. When you max out your taxes, you can build more, or at least it feels like you can, but by keeping taxes low, there's more investment pool available which is a form of building which does not reduce consumption from pops. Demand is determined by SoL, as you said, which is why it's important to NOT tax too much, otherwise your pops will not buy things. Increasing your country's wealth won't affect the SoL or demand because you are increasing your budget with gold mines and tariffs and stuff. The main source of income for your nation will almost always be income and dividend taxes, which are directly dependent on your Pops' SoL. Remember that SoL also determines wages. When wages are higher, you get more taxes, without actually raising the percentage of taxes charged on a pop.
      Trade would be quite effective for raising SoL in terms of creating better dividends IF the AI was good enough at the game to ever make enough demand to meaningfully affect prices with trade.

    • @lucasnadamas9317
      @lucasnadamas9317 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You are completely wrong about everything you say here, depressions aren't caused by whatever it is you're implying here (deflation? Inflation? I don't even know what you're saying), also SOL isn't determined by acumulation it's the opposite, it's determined by wages and daily income. Gold mines increasing prices? Tariffs? Inflation in victoria 3? What the hell are you talking about, money is not even real in this game it's generated on a weekly basis and is constantly dissapearing and appearing from thin air, ever since MAPI it has been eating so much it's crazy, still this doesn't lead to a monetary crisis. (it is real in victoria 2 though, literal late game liquidity crisis there).
      Depressions are caused by oveproduction in this game, simple as. You fix them by lowering taxes and increasing your consumer goods, and exporting your excess to try to raise productivity which in turn raises wages, which in turn raises their consumption and internal demand, you can also try to lower the prices of whatever is most costly for lower strata, you'll see mid game when you have wheat deficiencies building a bunch of it will actually give your economy a boost because your lower strata's sol will raise and they'll ask for more (and better) goods.
      The point can be made that raising taxes early to set up your construction sectors and the industries attached to it is not even good but straight up necesary if you want to get moving quick, and that's 90% of your early game economic growth, later you need to lower them though, especially with the legitimacy and radicalism debuffs getting worse in 1.7 which makes it unviable for long term.
      Crazy how you can make shit up and front if you look like you know what you're talking about

      @@fileleutheros2577 I hadn't even read your second comment, absolutely abhorrent lack of understanding of the game, money dissapearing by these factors is negligable, it's all mapi at every stage of production, still, this does not eat all your money which then causes a deflation which then DEPRESSES (???) the PRICES, that's INSANE. Especially since it could all be fixed if you ever had played the game and clicked any tooltip and saw how SOL actually works, yapping about total country wealth like it's a 1400s mercantilist economy

    Seems that taxes aren't well implemented into vic3. Irl taxes aren't taken out of the economy, they are reinvested into it in a manner that suits the goal of the ruling class of the state. So for example taxes payed by extremely wealthy mine owners might get reinvested into a struggling yet potentially very valuable sector such as public transportation, which will increase economic growth long term

    • @Tarkusarkusar
      @Tarkusarkusar  หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Taxes are, in their own way, reinvested into the economy through the contsruction that you'll be doing with your state, and through the bureaucracy that you make to support institutions like healthcare and stuff, but the problem is that in Victoria 3, you can't "sell" these services to create some kind of supply and demand, you can only give them out for free to pops. For example, infrastructure can't make profits in Victoria 3.
      In terms of how things play out in most Victoria 3 games, it's much better to not tax people so that their wages go up, and by extension, they end up paying a larger absolute value of taxes, despite the lower percentage of taxes.

    • @beepbop6542
      @beepbop6542 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Taxes in game are reinvested either into construction, military, subsidies, welfare, or "bureaucracy" (which represents basically all minor functions of state through institutions and population bureaucracy cost). Money is only lost if you fill your treasury and continue taxing as you will suffer a debuff on taxes collected after that point.

    What you said at 13:30 was half true. But the other half is that you had laissez-faire economic law and most likely your building owner pops make so much profit they can't build privately that fast and instead they buy out your nationalized buildings and you get that money to your reserves or in this case to your credit. And I think it's more likely than "you creating businesses faster then your debt is growing". I had a play when I was spending only negative money and I was in debt heavily but at the end I got some gold reserves because of it. Laissez-Faire is extremely powerful in the early to mid game and your private sector could carry you through on the hardest times. I did crush my economy because constant wars back to back ( - not because I wanted - ) and when the dust of the wars settled I couldn't build anything because of bankruptcy (I didn't declared it). Only the private sector brought my economy back to life.

    in victoria 3 the real life theory where lower taxes increases consumption makes more GDP growth isn't necessarily true, lower taxes does increase consumption and increase GDP and SOL, but it doesn't give long term growth because construction is controlled by the state, so essentially production growth is solely within the states domain until you have a lot of wealthy capitalists anyways. Partially this alligns with real life theory, where to get industry started you need an organization to collect resources to start an actual industry for there to be any capitalists which can spawn more capitalists by partnerships.
    But until you are in a late game economy taxing to make more construction will drive GDP more long term

    • @Tarkusarkusar
      @Tarkusarkusar  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This is generally true, with the rule being that peasants don't consume anywhere near as many goods as other pops. While a large portion of your population is composed of peasants, higher taxes are almost certainly better, and then, the longer the game goes on and the fewer peasants you have, the better it is to lower taxes. For Prussia, they don't have as much of a starting peasant population as, say, Qing or the EIC, so it can be reasonable to start off on low taxes, but it's all about figuring out the right moment to start dropping taxes. That'll depend on exactly how quickly you industrialize.

    This might be a stupid question, but if massive amounts of money start welling up inside your investment pool like you had after becoming communist, couldn't you just stop government constructions for a while? It would allow you to use the money stuck in there and give your nation a break to recover the losses from actually running constructions.

    • @Tarkusarkusar
      @Tarkusarkusar  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes but not on the 1.7.3 patch I was playing, because there was a bug, which I didn't realize was the case when I was playing, that made it so that the private investment pool wasn't working properly. NOW, with 1.7.4, you can effectively lean on your private investment for a while. The only problem with it is that the AI is really weird and often ineffective about building compared to you as the player, but it's still building so it's better than nothing.

      Yeah, that'll slow you down for sure, although you can still click the "form Germany" button without pan-nationalism. You just won't get Alsace-Lorraine until later if you do it.

    I understand that they want communism to be decent for gameplay purposes. But Communism would not sky rocket strandard of living. More like the standard of living would go off a cliff.
    Hell there should be no investment pool as the higher strada and Capitalists are non-existent, and people do not have enough money to invest as tehy basically own nothing. You should also have to manage EVERYTHING yourself.
    The middle class citizen, the high class citizen and the capitalists should also be guaranteed to revolt as they are either gonna be persecuted and killed or have their shit taken by the state if they don't stop you. This would mean you are figthing half the country at least. The larger the lower strada population is compared to the rest and the poorer they are, the more of the population supports you. This is how communism should work if it was represented correctly in the game. That's communism for ya.

      simply never stop building GIGACHAD. This is also why I was so loathe to reduce construction, since it can, and often will, cause your construction industries to collapse, which reduces your debt cap, and can bankrupt you.
