the last scene moved me, Irie smiles like a completely different person comparing with season 1, in which he was emotionless like a robot. He was lucky to meet her.
He did say meeting her was more of a miracle than seeing a shooting star in the day. Meaning he acknowledges how lucky he is to have her.
Since the beginning of S2, I guess he started to show some emotions to Kotoko, give her smile, protect her more, and do any other things a husband should do to his wife as best as he could. He still lacks of emotions and empathy to Kotoko sometimes, like when he said to Kotoko "don't compare yourself to Rika", in which he sounded rude, but when I re-think it, he actually meant no harm to Kotoko, it's just he knew how Kotoko feels and how she will react so he said that because he didnt want Kotoko to get hurt. He never actually rejected Kotoko when she came to see him, except when he got jealous to Keita, and he always introduces Kotoko as his wife, while Kotoko is still insecured to say it first when someone asked her.

His statements about kotoko and Rika can be seen as rude for others but since he's still adjusting his choice of words to his wife. He said " don't compare yourself to Rika ". In a more simpler and understandable manner he wouldn't want kotoko to compare her value to him and how Rika is to naoki. Because there are completely different. First off , kotoko is his wife. She should be more secure bearing that title. Besides Rika admitted herself that it's not so easy to even make him get interested in marriage or in love in general. That means kotoko means a lot for him to really marry her. Second , Rika is his cousin , his childhood friend. And even before kotoko came , he never developed feelings for her. It didn't happened before , and it would be even more impossible now that their married. It's just like what naoki said to Mari on their honeymoon. He just wanted kotoko to realize that he loved her more than she think he is. And even if he got caught in a pile of beautiful women in a crowd. He would still choose her and no one else
this is season 1 kotoko birthday where kotoko get pregnant during 9 month she has a daughter.
Kotoko changed his life
A bit of a tear-jerking background story of this show, the original manga this show was adapted from was based on the real-life love story between the author and her husband, who was a member of a popular Japanese boy band in the 80s that the author was a huge fan of. Naoki was actually created based on the author’s husband and Kotoko was the author’s self-insert.
The original manga, unfortunately, was discontinued because the author passed away due to cranial haemorrhage. It never had a proper ending, with its last scene being Naoki asking Kotoko if she was pregnant.
For those of you who are not aware, the author’s husband was the executive producer of this show, and he was actually the one who wrote the ending where Kotoko gave birth to a daughter and lived happily ever after with Naoki in order to give the story “a happy ending that he and his wife never got”. He also mentioned that the only reason why he accepted the role when he was invited to be a part of the production team was to tell his wife, posthumously, that “when you were giving your all to love me, I had already fallen in love with you” and also because he wanted his name to be listed next to his wife’s again even after almost 2 decades.
That is why the love story between Kotoko and Naoki feels so true, and why the final scene where Kotoko and Naoki are holding their daughter’s hands on a stroll is a bit blurred - this is a happy ending that could never be fulfilled for the “real-life Kotoko and Naoki”.

Well, we see it in the manga and anime, but honestly, cute maybe, but their child is just so annoying to me lol, possesive like Kotoko, and mean like Naoki... So I'm fine with this ending, but maybe that's just me.

Here is my analysis about Naoki after re-watching this for the nth time:
The first time I watched this was when I was in elementary, and I thought that Kotoko was so lucky to have Naoki. When I watched it again in high school, I thought that Naoki was a jerk and that Kotoko didn't deserve him. Now that I'm in college, I realized that Naoki is a flawed character who was always misunderstood especially since he doesn't know how to express himself.
This is actually the trope where she fell first, and he fell harder. People thought that it was Kotoko who was lucky to marry such a perfect man like him, but in fact, it was Naoki who was lucky for not all people can put up with someone despite their flaws and imperfections.
I've been seeing people saying that he is a red flag and that his personality isn't an excuse to not show how much he loves his wife. To be honest, if we dig deeper, there are a lot of people who are like Naoki if we look at his personality. In this generation, there are a lot of people who have trouble expressing themselves just like him. As for Naoki, it's been stated that he has personality issues despite the fact that he is smart, and I've read before that if a person has a high IQ, they will also have low EQ. Throughout Naoki's life, he was deemed to be special because of his brain and face. People didn't treat him like a normal human being, which is understandable why he grew even colder, putting up a wall. Not to mention how his mother treated him when he was young.
When I watched this again, I completely understood Naoki and his actions toward Kotoko. After all, his life became a complete mess when she came into the picture. Plus, she always stalks him, which is obviously annoying, which is why it's amazing that he still fell for her despite that. I also noticed that every time Kotoko denies his feelings to Naoki, saying that she'll move on from him, or when he gets jealous, he always makes impulsive actions such as saying harsh words to her and more. Remember when he recited her love letter in front of their family? That was when Kotoko denied having feelings for him. Remember when Naoki accepted Matsumoto’s invitation for a date? It was when he thought that Sudo and Kotoko have a relationship with each other. At that time, he was already falling, which he knew but still denies it.
When Kotoko moved out of their house, Naoki attended their club even though he doesn’t need to. Remember when he wanted Kotoko to train so they’ll win even though he knew that they won’t? Sounds like he misses her and wants to spend time with her. Remember when Naoki took a longer path to the station just to make his conversation longer with Kototo? That already showed how much he loves her. Naoki doesn’t have friends he could talk about his feelings for Kotoko or get some advice from, unlike Yuki who can get advice from him, which is why when he experienced having feelings for her, he didn’t know what to do. He didn’t know how to act on his feelings, which is why when he got jealous of Keita and Kotoko, he avoided Kotoko. Jealousy is an awful feeling a person could feel, which is why when he felt it, he chose to avoid her, not knowing what to do about it. As we all know, he doesn’t know how to put his feelings into words, which is why I get why some think he doesn’t love Kotoko. However, if you see his actions towards her, you can definitely say that he is in love. He is the type that will hug or kiss her as a form of expression that he loves her. His love for her was subtle but deep. In fact, he loves Kotoko more than how she loves him.
And since Naoki is a tsundere who say words that he actually doesn’t mean to say, he is often misunderstood by people. That’s why the best girl for her is Kotoko, someone who loves him despite all his flaws. It’s her who he needs. As he said, he can do 90% of most things while Kotoko can do 10%, which means it’s the two of them that complete each other.
He may be flawed, harsh, and cold, but if you actually think deeply, you will understand him well. In fact, his words, even though harsh, make sense (some were too much and painful though). It’s sad that Kotoko also misunderstands him at times, but she is the only girl that fits him. Naoki is patient for loving someone as troublesome as Kotoko, while Kotoko is also patient for loving someone as flawed as Naoki, which is why the two of them are perfect for each other in my opinion.
There is a difference between a red flag and a flawed character. Most call him a red flag, but as for me, he is a flawed man like how everyone in this series is flawed.
Also, I would like everyone in the series to see that it’s actually Naoki who loves her more. I want a scene where everyone would see how he’ll get crazy if he lost Kotoko or something. In short, I need another season of this!

You explained everything I wanted to say to those people who misjudged naoki's character. Oftentimes kotoko thinks that her love for him is much stronger than what he felt for her. But it's actually the other way around. He loves her more than what she thinks he is. Remember when her and him got into a big fight because of keita's interference? They had a misunderstanding and kotoko ran away from home. Even shouted at him. Noticed his reaction. After he left he can't move an inch from where he was standing and just cried out frustration. After it he made sure to still know her whereabouts by calling his father in law personally about what happened and how she is doing after the fight.
During those days that kotoko isn't with him in the study table. He tends to stare at nothing while holding the paper he was supposed to study. And failed the test for the first time. Imagine him being the all mighty and all knowing. The genius naoki irie failed to get his usual spot on the top. But you see on his expression that it's not the biggest problem.
When keita said married couples needs each other. And even said that he doesn't love her and need her enough. He said it's totally wrong. Because he envied him for being expressive in acting on his feelings. Unlike him who struggles with how could he made her feel secure with his love for him. He also said keita doesn't need her because he needs her more than he is. That literally translates to " you think I don't need her enough or love her enough well your wrong because she was the only woman who could put up with all my shits, I would never be who am I right now and who I would be in the future if not for her. "
I 1st watched the 1996 version when i was in secondary school, n along the years watching this version, korean version, taiwan version many times...i only have one comment, naoki likes her from the beginning, even when he didn't realize it yet...becoz kotoko is the only gurl that he never REJECTED....becoz we all know before kotoko, he didn't feel any special feeling toward gurls....n i also believe they're fate couple who very2 different in everything but they complete each other

I have also watched different adaptations of this manga. 1996 first live adaptation itazura na kiss , 2004-2005 taiwanese version it started with a kiss and they kiss again, 2010 Korean version playful kiss , 2012 Thailand version kiss me , 2013-2015 second japanese live adaptation mischievous kiss love in Okinawa and mischievous kiss love in Tokyo. And the most recent adaptation aired last 2019 a Chinese adaptation entitled miss in kiss

But the 2004-2005 taiwanese version of this manga we're natural and was also very good

Its January 2023. This show still holds me on chokehold like it did the first time I watched on 2015. I still feel the same butterflies and I understood the characters more through the years. Always my comfort show.

It's nice how they show us a more mature Kotoko in this last episode. At minute 47:00 she dresses differently, with more neutral colors, she combs her hair differently without so much decorations, more relaxed. I can see that Kotoko matured alongside Naoki, her pregnancy and her profession as a nurse. I loved the ending of her character. 🩷 Sorry for the mistakes, I used a translator to write this. ☺️
I feel like the matured Kotoko and the kinder Naoki we saw have finally become perfect for each other. They weren't made for each other but they eventually grew because of each other.
Love how simple Kotoko is. She is not a materialistic wife. All she wants is Naoki's love and his presence by her side. ❤ And I love Naoki's unconditional love for Kotoko despite of her insecurities, he never get tired of understanding and assuring her that he loves her. ❤

I think Naoki really intended to have a child with Kotoko, especially on her birthday. In the hospital, he was already doing a subtle check up on her.
After what happened between her and Rika. Seeing how she handles the situation everytime she feels threatened with naoki's love being taken away from her. And also based from his expression the day he reassured her that he still choose to be her husband despite her not believing how much he loves her is my hint that from that episode naoki wanted to have a baby with her. Because maybe being able to have one would make her even more secure with their marriage. I mean considering what happened to him and keita and how Rika behaves to kotoko. They had a lot of love rivals to beat and he probably thinks that other people saw that as an opening for them to still change their mind about staying married. It would be easier to separate because they still don't have a child. He also expresses how he wanted her to get pregnant as early as episode 3. They even had sex after that conversation. This time I think he nailed it when they made love that night. That's why he was already expecting it

Plus kotoko seems to be very down at the moment she said that. So he maybe figured out that her problem was that people wouldn't believe their marital status. I am sure Naoki was always asks about his gf since he's handsome and smart. But since he doesn't have a gf but has a wife he probably correct them every time, and now that it has affected kotoko he had to make a move. Having him to confirm their married would probably throw everyone in surprise but the important thing is they knows she is in the same department

I’ve watched this drama for numerous times but i just realised that at 27:21 Kotoko’s stomach lights up meaning that Naoki imagined that Kotoko will get pregnant with their child🥺
Naoki is already expecting her to conceive their first born after that night. He kind of made sure of it. You could see his facial expression when he glanced at her sleeping in bed. Also he expresses his desire to have a baby with her as early as episode 3. He literally said. " I kind of want a baby now, should we make one ? ". This time he made sure he nailed it. Based from how frequent they did it. I don't think naoki uses protection when doing it with her. Like what he said on the honeymoon episode. He can't just hold himself for long anymore. And it's not ok for him that they never had anything romantic activities together. So I think he never even considered using protection when doing it with her in bed.
@zylamortienio7437 , I agree! I think that Naoki made it clear in episode 3 that he was very open to starting a family with Kotoko whenever it happened. Now that he is back from Kobe, his broken leg is recovered, and both he and Kotoko are established in their chosen careers, he's probably very interested in starting the next phase of their lives which would be parenthood. It's really interesting to see how relaxed and happy Naoki is in the last scene when he and Kotoko are walking in the park with their daughter. He is just as smiling and happy as she is. He's even echoing Kotoko's words and feelings. He's expressing them out loud in public, which is a huge important character development for him. He's always been super reserved about expressing affection in public. Fatherhood seems to have brought out the best in him.
When I'm feeling down, sad and not in the mood. This series is my forever comfort zone along with other versions of Itakiss. Love love loveeee~

I'm so thankful they made this series public cause it's my stress reliever the comedic side and I'm going to admit there relationship is quite toxic from the beginning but they've continued to grow as an individual and a couple.
naoki is so lucky to have someone like kotoko in his life, someone who is willing to stay beside him through the ups and downs of life, someone who really shows love through her actions and words, someone who doesn't fell out of love just because you showed her your dark side. people like kotoko are one of the rarest in this world and also, i can somewhat say that kotoko is lucky to have someone like naoki, naoki really loves her he can't really just show it because he doesn't understand his own feelings the way other people do, i think that's the personality of naoki that gets misunderstood by many who watch this show but naoki is lowkey showing his love for kotoko, especially on the last episode. aaa i'm gonna miss them
This is one of or the only natural drama I've ever seen. Things are exaggerated for comical purposes but the flow, acting, cinema and everything is so natural me. Their dialog seems realistic. Even their clothes. How they repeat the same clothes sometimes.
Nothing is dragged nor extended with unnecessary scenes or sceneries. No wonder people and me keep rewatching this hahahaha
This series is on it's league of it's own. For some reason I can't get tired of re-watching it. Making feel all kinds emotions. It has a death grip on me. I literally watched this one episode and went back to re-watch both seasons again.

If you look deeper into the incidents she encountered, it might seem like coincidences, or troubles and nuisances at first if we view it with prejudices and sometimes it's at her expense, but at the end, the outcomes usually give the people involved supplements and awakenings they need in their lives.
example would be Naoki, Irie'mom, yuki, The honeymoon couple, The kid she helped on her date, kinchan and Chris's relationship, funatsu and marina in ep7, moto-chan and her nurse capping, the grandma,
nami-chan, and even with Naoki's injury. It might seems like incidents caused by her, but at the end, the people involved all benefits from it in a good way.
she might be a women that bring storms (season 1 ep 5 said by a student at graduation), but after the rain, she brings and provides the sunlight that you need. And I do think Naoki is aware of this, that's why he is always proud to say she is his. She might not be smartest or fits the standards, but it's her innate honest warm tender kindness and perservance and sincerity that can not be mimced that leave lasting impacts in people's lives.
Season 2 proved how they’re both blessed to have each other and be wed to each other 🥺 I mean?!?! Kotoko’s ever growing love for Naoki, and Naoki’s looooong patience every time Kotoko makes mistakes, and on top of that, their ever loving & supportive families especially Naoki’s mom?!?? Aaaahhh

Yuki Furukawa now has a wife and a child, and while I truly am pleased for him, there is a part of me that is grieving. While watching the mischievous kiss series and the behind-the-scenes, I really did hope that they would end up together. I know I'm just a fan and I can't do anything about it. You can't really deny that even in behind-the-scenes videos, their chemistry is so strong that it makes you queasy. Honoka was still a minor at the time, which is such a shame since I really believe that if she hadn't been, they might have ended up together. I don't know why, but when I contemplate that they didn't end up together, it aches. I'm not sure if I'm just making assumptions, but I get the impression that Yuki harbored lowkey feelings for Honoka based on the way he looks at her in every image and video. It's unfortunate that she would have turned 18 in just one year, but he got married and had a child, so it already occurred, and yuki's happiness is what matters most, not my sentiments. Why did Honoka have to be a minor back then? Maybe they'll end up together in a different life, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ugh.

The last scene hit hard. Naoki had a different aura somehow. A good one. His smile changed, he looked completely different from s1. He looked at Kotoko with love in his eyes, he always had, but his look simply had more. Like his love became stronger. I just realized that maybe Naoki was the lucky one to have Kotoko. Sure, Kotoko cant do 90 percent of what he can but she can do 10 percent of what he cant. A child can really make relationships stronger. The best part is when Kotoko fainted and the first person to worry and yell her name and shake her with such worry in his eyes was Naoki. He really cares about her. This series is such an old one, it was from years ago. But every single episode makes it feel new again if you re-watch it. This series will probably be my most favorite Japanese drama. It will never get old. I hope more generations will watch this series and feel the exact same way. I cried at the last scene, realizing that this was the end of the whole series and that they will not make another season, it truly breaks me realizing that I wont ever se another series with the same people in one new whole series. This was the best, and it will forever be the best. I wont ever stop re-watching this series ever again. Love it. Thank you, Naoki and Kotoko for making me truly happy if even for just a few days.

Right are we even ready then he just agreed. And they exchanged I love you's in the end. After that scene they were seen cuddling close to each other at their bedroom. Based from their conversation and naoki's expression of wanting to have a baby they just got sex that time. 🤣🤣

She wouldn't be too insecure anymore. I also particularly like the cutted scene where kotoko's leg and arms are around naoki when sleeping back where naoki stays at his apartment in the first season. He looked frustrated but he did not retailiate at the same time. He just allowed her to be like that. But he moved her legs in his thigh part because it's making her uncomfortable. 🤣🤣 Young blood isn't totally frozen after all. 🤣🤣

Today is Septemper 28, Kotoko's bday! What a coincidence! So glad that I decided to watch this version, I wasn't a fan before because the Korean version is so cringe and stressful until I saw a clip of this on tiktok and it instantly had my interest. A lot of people can easily spot a 🚩 but this story reminded me that we're just humans and we can't always be a good person.
i was actually on the verge of breaking down and I decided to re-watch this series to take my mind off of things. Now, my heart feels appy and fulfilled. I'd never get tired of watching this series over and over. (both seasons)

I remember that I loved this series so much (no matter how cringyand cliche this is) that I even wrote a journal for every episode cause I cannot get enough of it. I watch all of the adaptation over andover again but AGGGGGHHHHH. It just hits different. I'm much older now but I still giggle and hysterically scream like a little girl. This series helped me overcome my PTSD and it is still a good distraction from stress. This is one of the best thing of my childhood. OMG rewatching this makes me wanna cry. I know it sounds overeacting but it just brings a lot of memories 😢.

I really like the whole family dynamic in this show. All type of characters but always supporting each other. They show care but also respect for each other’ decisions, character, and so on; when Naomi and Kotoko were in not talking terms, the family left them be just waiting for them to grow and reconcile with each other. This is what makes the love story between N &K worth it, I mean who doesn’t like to be surrounded by such a wonderful family!?

I really love this Adoption, actually Korean version was my First love, but after watching this, i realized that when it comes to Season 1 I choose Korean Version but When it comes to Season2 no one can beat this Adoption, I really Love how the Story begin and end, and of course No one can Beat Kotoko and Naoki,they portrayed their character so well, Now Im worried how to move again from this series 😅

Idk why not a single char of the show caught up to the fact that Naoki planned his whole life around Kotoko from the start. He gave up a great Uni to be her, chose to be a doctor bcs she said so,Chose pediatrician after their convo & also moved from his well settled job to be near her. where he wanted to be there for few more years. but came back bcs their was no vacancy for Kotoko. ppl just pay attention to Kotoko's obsession but don't notice his. bcs he is silent. he loved her very much. just it was not loud like kotoko's
He indeed loves her very much even from the time they weren't married. He confides in her , he is never ashame of her as his wife even when he commit mistakes after another, he wanted her attention to focus solely to him , and he's a jealous guy. He knows that kotoko might be taken away from him. That's why he said at their wedding that he was not happy it was a rush but it's not all bad.

While kotoko also has her own way to attract potential love rivals because of her charm , bubbly personality and extra ordinary tenacity. Over time her mistakes really look cute if you look at it. And due to her clumsiness people tend to have the instinct of protecting her more. He knows all the possibilities and is actually not blaming keita why he has taken a liking of his wife. What he does not like was after he had warned him and threatened him about his position being kotoko's husband he still dares to woo her and take him away from him despite knowing their marital status. And kotoko's insecurity added fuel to the fire and causes drifts in them. Out of all men who wanted his wife's attention. Keita is the one he was worried about. Funny that even before they got married. Even if he knows kinnosuke is not giving up on kotoko. He never openly display how frustrated he was with his presence. Even without the marital status he's still beyond confident. But after they got married. That's when anxiety kicks in for him.

i have rewatched the anime series 5x already and this specific live adaptation for 4x already. this really is the best drama series i have watched. it remains to be unforgettable and the feeling of giddiness and the butterflies in my stomach everytime i rewatch each episode just increases everytime. this really deserves a season 3 or rather it NEEDS one. i wish they could have extended the series a bit by showing the pregnancy journey of kotoko and naoki because there is still much to cover. huhuhu honoka and yuki's performance in this drama series is just the best hands down. their chemistry is amazing and i wish they were given more projects because they deserve it HFJKLDSFJA MY FAVORITE ITAKISS COUPLE HANDS DOWN HUHUHU OKAY BRB GONNA REWATCH IT AGAIN FJSDKLAFKJA
