This is the 1st of a quick 2-part series on Basketball Throw In. In the next video, we'll address the restrictions on the defenders more extensively. Also, throw ins after a goal and alternating-possession throw ins.
Greg, regarding restrictions in place on the thrower during a throw-in, can the thrower extend the ball through the boundary plane and hand the ball to a teammate who is inbounds? An official on an old forum quoted a case play 7.6.3 Situation B: During an attempted throw-in, A1: (a) holds the ball through the plane of the end line and then passes it; (b) steps through the plane (makes contact with the floor inbounds) before passing the ball to A2; or (c) holds the ball through the plane and hands it to A2. RULING: A legal throw-in in (a), but a throw-in violation in (b) and (c). The current casebook doesn't contain this exact case play and I don't see clarification in the rulebook. What is the exact ruling?
If the defender contacts the thrower the ruling is intentional foul. Two free throws by the offended player or their substitute plus a throw-in back at the spot nearest the foul.
A Better Official wow that was fast! Hey thanks, had a few instances of crossing the plane last year and it seems that I called them right, thanks! Keep up the awesome worm
Appreciate the information. Question: During player technical foul, any player/sub of offended team may attempt 2 free throws. Should I have a sub come and shoot the free throws, does that sub become a player and need to be subbed back out if desired? Or can sub come in just for freethrows and sit back down promptly after freethrows?

Really like the new videos and the format Greg! Question I do have, what’s the penalty if player B1 contacts A1 on a designated spot throw in?
If the defender contacts the thrower the ruling is intentional foul. Two free throws by the offended player or their substitute plus a throw-in back at the spot nearest the foul.

The little slide screen that shows the NFHS logo seems to have a grammatical error.
“This series is exclusively uses NFHS...”
You are correct. Fixed in subsequent episodes
