youd be shocked at how stup!d and oblivious "normal" people are. remember mcdonalds coffee has heat warnings, refridgerators have *interior* safety feature, and millions of americans want to vote for donald trump again... i wish i lived in a big city but the average intellegence of americans makes me kinda happy i live out in the sticks...
fr why do so many tattooer youtubers have to be such droning blowhards? i just came from a clown named james that ranted and droned on about rude tattoo artists for TWENTY FIVE MINUTES my god.
Though I agree with your statements what about if it's the other way around... things that tattoo artists do that annoy the clients??? Tattoo artists being late, tattoo artists being hungover, not having any design done, not answering back to emails?? It's funny how tattoo artists are always blasting the clients but the reality is, is that sometimes it's the other way around... I have many tattoos by really great "professional" artists and last year I started a sleeve with a new artist who is quite known and was referred to me, I really loved his style but if I would have known how "unprofessional" he really was I would have went elsewhere, there was not one session where he was on time and if he was, drawing not done, he hadn't eaten yet, he was hungover, I live an hour away from the shop and he canceled me last minute several times, asked me if I could come later when I had already left my house, it's very frustrating and I feel that this needs to be discussed as well... My time is precious too and when my appointment is at 1pm and we only start at 3pm because my artist doesn't give a shit if he goes to bed at 4am and wakes up at 12:30pm that is not okay ! More of this needs to be discussed, as a client I'm super respectful but this behaviour is not acceptable, just because you have thousands of followers on instagram doesn't give artists the right to do what they want
Sara Strange I understand, and what you’re saying rings true. I have indeed worked in studios where the artists were like this, and I have also experienced this as a client myself. This was actually the main reason that I opened my own studio; to have a studio that offers a professional and consistent service. My artists are always on time and never hungover or under the influence. In some cases completion of the design depends a lot on the client and some designs need to be done with the client present. Unfortunately there is a LOT of ego in the tattoo industry, where some artists covet the lifestyle more than they actually appreciate providing art for their clients. The only way that you can know the artist etiquette is by word of mouth. Luckily for me, I have a studio full of respectable artists, and almost all of the artists who have done my work have been stellar workers. My channel is aimed towards clients though, and people WANT to know what the faux pas are so they can avoid them.
@@hayleetattooer Thank you so much for your response I totally agree, it's hard knowing how the connection will be between artist and client I have always been so pleased with the artists I have booked, for a one shot session it's not the end of the world, but for a sleeve where it's been a full year of being treated like it's no big deal was very frustrating 😟 The artist luckily is very talented I am very happy with my sleeve, and don't get me wrong he is a nice guy, however being late everytime, hungover, cancelling, all the excuses is not tolerable I couldn't wait for my arm to be done just so I wouldn't have to deal with this anymore
I had a similar situation where he didnt even make a drawing and when I showed up to the parlor, he literally told me ‘oh I cant do what you asked’ so I was like uh okay but I made the deposit and everything so i waited there with him getting NEW ideas for a totally NEW design because it got super awkward and I didn’t want to lose my deposit for nothing. Also towards the end of the first session, he was rushing to go eat so I had blowouts. I complained and all but its just not nice, as much as I understand how artists get pissed off with clients, some apprentice artists or pro’s also make it VERY uncomfortable for the client due to the lack of transparency whether with price or design or being punctual. In the end, it ended up being a lovely piece but is it my favorite? Not really, I dont regret getting it, but I wish I had spoken up more
@@hayleetattooer I am super happy that artists like you exist who honestly is transparent and professional so that both the client and the artist are on the same page🙏🏾
Love this. Was prepared to get annoyed like I often do with these vids, because the tattoo artist whines and complains about their clients, many times for unfair reasons. Annoyed because the client don’t know the etiquette, or they have honest questions. Like, “it’s rude to ask how much a tattoo costs.” Seriously? Is it rude to ask how much your new car, or your dinner is going to cost? Tattoos can run anywhere from $75-$3000 (or more). That’s a huge difference, and someone unfamiliar with how long their tattoo idea will take needs to know they can afford it before it starts. But your not-to-do list is basically, just show some respect for your artist, their work, and their time. And they should do the same back, respecting the clients, their time, and really listening to what they want.
1. Don't bring your kids 2. Don't bring too many friends - they tend to over crowd the small space 3. Shower and wear deodorant 4. Try not to move around while you're in the tattoo artist's chair 5. Don't be over affectionate with your partner - making out, etc.. It's awkward, weird and it's not the time and place 6. Keep your moaning in pain to a BARE minimum 7. Don't come in sick 8. Don't micromanage the process of the tattoo artists - no nit picking - and don't make more than 3 last minute changes 9. Don't be late to your appointment - if your running late always call - any later than 15 min is unacceptable 10. Don't ask for a discount during your tattoo or after your tattoo is finished - that is what your consultation is for 11. Don't ask for an entire tattoo change at your session / placement / design / size 12. Don't show up hungover, drunk or under the influence - it inhibits your ability to make good decisions - excess bleeding 13. Wear clothes that are clean and accessible - unclean clothing can cause your tattoo to get infected 14. Don't arrive to your appointment sunburned - sun damaged skin does not tattoo well 15. Don't hit on your tattoo artist 🤘
Oh and maybe not pre shave the area. My artists don't like their clients to shave the area due to damage or prickly. They just say they got it, just leave it be not to put that area under any extra stress beforehand specifically if you don't normally shave it.
I feel SOOO terrible because I broke 8 (kind of) and 11. A little background, I looked up one of the best shops in Houston and found the place I wanted. I submitted my inquiry to the shop owner and he assigned me my artist. The catch is that this is an authentic asian parlor and a lot of the artists do not speak english fluently. So I describe my idea to the artist, but shop policy was she cannot show me until I'm in the store. I get there and what she'd come up with was cool but just not what I had in mind for my calf (and first tattoo). I politely explained it wasn't what I had in mind, and we came up with a new concept on the spot as I already had a few ideas in mind, I just needed a professional opinion on making it a good tattoo. I drew on her pad to give the idea and she came back in about 30 mins with a render, then another 15 with the stencil once we tweaked it a bit. Keep in mind I'm trying to explain all of this through google translate, english to mandarin. I felt so terrible because this was my first interaction with her, turned down her art, then came up with a new concept. I know I can be picky, but especially with something like this. She killed the tattoo though! That was number 8 Number 11, same tattoo artist. I wanted Shenron from DBZ on my shin and the antlers to go on each side of my knee. I explained my idea was a DBZ leg sleeve. The picture I provided was a straight up and down vertical pic. The tibia is not vertically shaped lol. So the poor girl aligns the antlers with the center of my knee, but the face is waaay of to the left on my shin right below the knee. So again I politely try to explain I want the face centered right below the knee, which isn't exactly "straight" down in a line from the top of the knee, nor to the bottom of the tibia. We had placed the stencil 2x at this point. So she place it one last time, this time it was too far to the right.... When i bent my knee he looked like he was off to the right. At this point I'm sweating, I feel so bad about putting this poor girl through the ringer. We wipe off that stencil, I mark the center of my shin with a sharpie, and she ended up cutting the stencil into 3 sections. One for the upper portion without the antlers to align the face, the bottom section to align the 3 middle dragonballs in a line down down my shin, then sketched on antlers to make it align to my knee, then placed stencil. I brought snacks, water, for myself and my artist, and mooncakes for all of the artists on the second visit because I felt bad about the first one. After the second session I felt so bad, and gave her an extra $50 on top of the tip. Is this acceptable? I feel terrible but at the end of the day I can't have a dragon on my shin that's looking the wrong way lol. This has been on my mind since the first session, and she's very hard to read because we can barely communicate so I'm not sure how to interpret anything lol. The second appointment was 8/16/24 for reference.
I just got my first tattoo. We communicated through email. Due to size and where I originally wanted the tattoo, my artist left out an important part of what u wanted. I walked into my appointment, and we talked it out he was able to add back in the part I wanted. We moved the placement to my arm. Being seeking to talk it out made for a great experience for me. I'm already planning my next tattoo
Usually I’m pretty good with sitting still and keeping quiet, but when I got my kneecap done- the last hour was SO painful I couldn’t help but to let out a few quiet groans 😭
Thank you for making this video. I'm getting my fifth tattoo in October (birthday present to myself) so this was a good topic for me to brush up on. And your other videos on similar topics have been very helpful as well.
Ohhh... I can sense the frustration here. I'm not a tattooer, but I'm in a field that has to deal with similar issues. I so feel you! I'm getting another tattoo in about 10 days, so this is timely advice.
I have a leg sleeve and I’m at the point where I just need ‘shitty’ tiny little fillers. I’m almost embarrassed to ask an ‘artist’ to do the work, because the work is really simple. I keep apologising for the stuff I want because I feel I’m wasting an artists time.😔 Even though I love the tiny tats!
New-ish artists often appreciate small tattoos. I knew a girl who was still learning & she did a lot of plain line-art, & it was also cheap-ish (as far as safe tattoos go).
Thank you for this. Definitely wished I would have watched this before I got my first tattoo. I will admit I did ask for an estimated price, as I had no idea what the range would be for the artist. I also changed the location that I wanted it. However, all went well. The artist was extremely professional and kind. I made sure to tip really well at the end too.
My last tattoo I always tipped after a session. I believe if I can think of it correctly. The tattoo cost around 920 or so but I paid around 1060. My next project with my artist is my whole back 4 session of 4 hours in a row. 😅 my last tattoo was 3 day in a row of 4 hours
The micromanaging is completely true it's their job for a reason and my artist has made me more comfortable with the process than I could've ever done myself. More times than most they have a vision and when they ask if that work's it's better than my original idea anyway put trust in them, do you're research on where or who your going to it's okay to change aspects but don't be knit picking the smallest details a lot of artist do the best work when you give them free-range of their creativity🙂
Really enjoy your way of expressing yourself, good luck with the channel although you seem to have a great idea of what content people want already! You've earned a new subscriber!
2 questions: If the artist (naturally) asks “gimme some ideas of what you want” Where’s the balance of giving due freedom to work their craft but also me asking for what I want? I know 70% of what I want but that includes needing the artist to fill in the blanks/make it better 100% than my “amateur-artist” vision. I don’t want to hinder the artist. ☀️ How much is too much? Assuming “ghost-like” is ideal and sunburned is bad… how about recently tanned??
I usually sit really still during tattoos I moved my head a few times during my last appointment where I had to lay on my stomach with my arm extended because it was done on the back of my fore arm he stopped one of the time I said sorry I didn’t realize I was moving my arm too I felt so bad but he was cool about it because I didn’t move a lot besides that one time
these are good advices, i love this. i am guilty of one of them.. admittedly. i kept moving around a lot, but i tried my best to keep still. i got one professional tattoo done so far, i hope to get more! and i hope to see my tattoo artist again and get another tattoo from her :)
What about email etiquette when it's a really popular studio with a distinct style, so they sometimes deny appointments based on scheduling or just stylistic difference? Like, should I email them just to say I'm interested in a consultation and wait for a response, or should I include all the basic info about my idea - subject, size, placement, etc. along in the first email I send them?
casket rat Thanks for the question! Definitely include all of the subject matter in the initial email, because if the studio/artists dedicate themselves to a particular style it would be likely they will ask you for this information prior to booking a consultation anyway - so including it will save time. If they do decline your request for design or scheduling, try asking if they can refer you to an artist that suits the style more closely :)
I swear getting an appointment for me has been harder then applying at harvard university mannn. Then I had the audacity to request fine line work and the response I got, when i finally did get an email back was very off. Then i got bounced between 2 artists and now I don't even know when I'm going in, and I inquired at like 2 of the best places where I am 🙃
i skipped once for my first tatoo a week ago now i know its really required to stay still im going back to my artist and throw a proper tip he did the whole thing in 1 hour and in his time limit
Fellow childfree woman here. A tattoo studio is perhaps the only place where the presence of kids is (mostly) rare. It seems like they are everywhere these days. It's so hard to find an adult-only space in this child-obsessed society!
@Олена буличева women's biology makes them capable of being moms, but biology doesn't make them want to be moms. There are loads of biological women who don't want to be moms and loads of biological men who want to have children. For example, i don't want to be a mom and last i checked, I'm very much a cis woman.
I hate having kids around when I'm trying to relax (especially when trying to focus on something like blocking out tattoo pain). I'm sure there are some people who's kids are quite and behave...but there are plenty who arent!
"Trust your artist's judgement"... Yeah, right.. and with that I have seen multiple where the end result ended up crooked... If you are not happy, speak up until you are.
I talked to my artist today to book an appointment at the end of June. Getting an upside down pentagram and told him to flip the colors around and he seen why I wanted it that way.
I had two tattoos and luckily I didn't do any of those things, I soooo wanna another tattoo BUT I've spent my tattoo money on a game so it looks like I have to save more money to get another one and thanks for the advice. I am thinking about a dragon one .....
I tried to tell my friend about the being under the influence while getting tattooed and he thought I was joking. He now wants his 1st tattoo but he parties quite a bit, so hangovers are common.
As a tattoo artist, would you talk over a design with a client months in advance without an appointment? I plan on getting a tattoo, possibly by the end of the year but am not sure exactly when since I have to save up for it and travel expenses. I would also like to see what the artist can come up with before I decide that I definitely want to book with them. I know as an artist, one wouldn't want spend time on a design, only not to book it, but I wouldn't want to book(conmit to) a date when I haven't seen a design, especially since I would have to fly out to a different state. Any advice?
Great question - me personally as an artist I strictly do not provide designs prior to an appointment and I believe I did a video on the reasons behind that. But if you are seeking a particular artist out of state, the best thing you can do is email the artist with your idea, and if they like the idea and are happy to take on the project, ask if (because you are travelling) they might be willing to provide the design prior to the appointment for a deposit or extra fee? If they say no; you would either have to trust that you chose a great artist and that you will be happy with whatever they come up with… or keep searching for an artist that will provide a design prior for a fee. I don’t believe any artists would provide a design with no booking or deposit though.
Responses requested!! Long story short, I have a condition that makes me super sweaty (hyperthyroid) and I’m going to be getting my first tattoo near my armpit 🙃 in FL during the summer. Yes- I wear deodorant and very mild perfume (like soap scent). But is this something I should even mention? Or like ask to reapply deodorant?? 😂 pain and my condition make me super sweaty. Please let me know what other sweaty people do!
You can let them know ahead of time, bring a clean towel to lay on, and reapply antiperspirant during a break (or ask to break to do so if you notice you’re sweating through it)
getting my very first tattoo March 2023. i am 34yo. and im super nerverous. idk if i did a bad idea of getting a bicep 10in type of one as my first but i feel 2023 is my yolo year. lol thanks for this video. ^_^
@katiemares5711 the pain wasn't bad. The last hour of the second day to be the hardest because I felt my body crash cause it knew it was getting finished. I think the most painful wasn't the tattoo itself (besides the outline cause the outline is painful then the shading); but my back & hip hurt because not able to move for a long period of time/laying on the spot for hours.
If it's to a similar shaped place (like from one side of the back to the other, or from ribs to shoulder-blade) is can sometimes work, but if it's to somewhere different it won't work as well. The artist may need to rework some shapes & angles.
I have run late in my first appointment and it was bc I took the wrong buss and I didn't know the area and never been there much myself. I apologize to my artist and I didn't have internet to contact them, and I gave him extra for that lost time bc I felt really bad. I hate to be late and I feel such embarrassment when it happens.. He was really chill about it and that's really sweet but I am stubborn asf so ((⬅️💵💪take the money please🙏
Can anyone help me out here? I have a friend (we're not close at all) who drew up a tattoo idea for my dad. My dad got him to draw up a different tattoo & put it on his pec & around his nipple. So my dad never got this specific tattoo; exchanging it for the tat on his pec. I have SH scars & I have been using body markers/ temporary tattoo markers to cover them up for a while until I convinced my mother to let me use Jagua (I'm an adult but I'm still in school & living at home). Jagua is sort of like the south american version of henna. I brought it to my dad's house & asked him to do the jagua for me. Dad printed out the dragon that our friend drew & painted it on with the jagua. I liked the dragon. We have another friend who is inked to the max, so I showed it off to him. (He also used to SH so I was really excited to be able to show him the jagua cover-up.) He suggested that I make it bigger by 10%. So next time I went to my dads, I got him to print out the art again. Ofc we didn't have any more tracing paper & he didn't want to do it for me so I ended up doing it myself. I fell in love. I already liked the dragon, but seeing it this way just felt perfect. It has lost some of its glamour at this point (after months of this art) but I still like it, & I want to get it tattooed permanently. The artist who drew up the art is really slow & he works a ways away in a not-so-great neighbourhood. My dad recommended not seeing him for getting a tattoo. Is it rude to decline his work but keep his art? Is it rude to ask another artist to tattoo smth they didn't create? How do I go about asking a different artist to do it? How do I ask my friend if I can use his art? Thanks!
Does anyone else have this problem? i feel like i flinch when getting work done . Like if its on my arm i feel like im moving my arm really fast but when i look i didnt move ? idkk its really weird
I've had a tattoo artist show up late for my appointment and I just left...so it goes both ways. Respect my time too. You pay A LOT of money to get tattooed. And I've had a tattoo fade out quicker than others done by the same artist...is it bad to ask for a touch-up at a discount?
funny you should say that because when i got my leg tattoo done i asked my tattoo artist if she had a boyfriend lol and she does so everytime i see her its awkward for me cos i like her
It's totally worth to hear what's to expect? I am feeling getting tattoo for first time n I learnt how to endure the pain. ☺️ I wanted to seek a request if u can tell me how to ask tattooist if its vegan ?
Crazy question. I want a tattoo from just under the middle of my thigh. I have a bakini bottom that unties on the side. Would that be something good to wear so that i dont have clothing in the way, but like im not hanging out all over the place?
im getting my 1st Tattoo's in January i have the design drawn up and sized already but i want 2 Tattoos at the same time but im a tattoo virgin so i have a couple of questions 1. will a Tattooist agree to do 2 tattoo's on a Tat virgin (1 is a portrait of Michael myers on my left hand so will take hours, the other is just a symbol from Halloween on my right wrist so literally a minute or 2)? 2. will i have to pay by the Tattoo or all included at an hourly rate? 3. i want the artist to change a bit of hair on my design coz im not good at drawing hair, is that part of the whole price or do i need to pay extra for a bit of redesign? thank u and i subbed ;)
How did it work out? Did you get both? How was the pain? My 6th tattoo was a hand tattoo from my wrist down to my finger tips and I swear I went to heaven's golden gates several times 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@cjewelz0389 yeah i got my Tattoo's yaaaay lol the pain was nothing, i must have a really high pain tolerance or because ive broken so many bones a bit of stinging don't affect me, it's just boring tho. Trying to get funds sorted for 6 year old Michael Myers on my other hand
@@skinnyfatz8483 boring 🤣🤣 that 6 yo Michael Meyers sounds dope! And everyone I know whose broken bones before has a hella high pain tolerance...that makes sense
@@cjewelz0389 breaking my ankle was the most pain ive ever experienced, broke both arms adding up to 9 times, my nose, my collar bone, knuckles and my pinky toe lol I love 6 year old Michael, wish there was more in the Halloween franchise, i want to own that clown mask, i have 3 Michael Myers tho so far. I'm a horrornerd, well nerd in general. I didnt ask before what is your Tattoo/ Tattoo's of?
I would suggest against it at all (unless you have organised and okayed it with your artist prior). There are usually multiple artists working in a shop and the slightest accidental bump, or sometimes even motions or sounds can distract the artists focus. Another reason is that if the child were to slip and hurt themselves in the studio, the public liability insurance would likely not cover the studio as the space is not insured for minors. Also, even the nicest tattoo studios are likely to have low-brow art on display which is absolutely not kid-friendly!
Sitting still: Are there any medications that would effect the process? If I were to take more Adderall to sit through will that compromise the process?
When is an appropriate time to ask the tattoo artist how much the tattoo will cost and if you've already had a consultation, could you push the appointment date to be quite a bit later to save up for it if it's not the price you expected?
My artist told me the price before I even placed my deposit, and artists tend to have a policy where you can change dates 24/48 hours before the appoint or else they take your deposit. I'd say just ask at the consultation, as an artist wouldn't judge you for having a budget as long as it isn't too low!
My Tattoo artist charges a set price per hour. What usually happens for me is, i go in and have a chat with him giving him my ideas, the placement, size, general design etc. Then after that he tells me how many hours it will take MAX. Then i usually book in straight away as i save up roughly about £300-£400. You are usually expected to pay a deposit too before booking in. And as someone else has said, most places usually allow for a 24 hour cancellation window
It's weird because here in Germany it's pretty common to ask for the price beforehand (not just for Tattoos but everything) and it's not considered rude tbh
When I've gotten all 9 of my tattoos, I show my artist the design I want and tell them they can change it up if the design wouldn't look good the way it is and so it will fit my body better. The show me the stencil of the design they made up and then they will give me a price for it without me asking the price. If the price is good for me he will do the tattoo. My artist isn't bothered by me talking during the tattoo. He's actually very talkative like I am so we fit great and he does great tattoos. Its only rude to ask the price of a tattoo when you first walk in the door. Like throwing down a design and saying. "How much" without letting them really look at the design and seeing what would work best with what area of your body it would look good on. Some designs you want on your arm may not work on your arm. Some designs may have to end up being a little bigger than what you wanted because your artist is thinking about how its going to heal and how long your tattoo will last and will it look good years to come. Text is the #1 thing you should always listen to your artist about. If your artist says your text size needs to be bigger it should be bigger. The smaller the text size the more likely years down the road all the lettering with blur together and look a mess. This is just my personal opinion, but I think it is disrespectful to show an artist a design and ask them if they are capable of doing the design you want. To me its like your telling them they don't have any talent. I know some artists specialize in certain types of tattoos, but I just think its rude to walk into a shop, show an artist a design and then ask them if they are capable of the design you want.
Since the last 3 months i'm looking for an awesome artist that willing to do cover up and i've been asking couple tattoo shop and artist , believe it or not 2 diffrent shop and artist offering me discount if want it , it kinda make me happy also shock , because i know that the fact if you asking for it you are f in a hole , so what you thing i should do about that?? And those shop&artist is not like a yesterday kid that just bought tattoo machine , they are really" awesome shop&artist . Ps: i assume they offer me discount cause my tattoo is rather large and it might took more than 8 hours to cover
I hope this doesn't offend you, but I changed your comment. Sometimes I struggle to understand what people are saying, so I decided to try making this comment more cohesive. For the last 3 months I've been looking for an awesome artist that is willing to do a cover up so I've been asking a couple tattoo shops and artists. Believe it or not, 2 diffrent shops/artists are offering me a discount if want it! It kinda makes me happy, but also shocked, because I know that if you ask for a discount you are an a-hole. What do you think I should do about that?? And those shop/artists are not just some kid that bought tattoo machine yesterday, they are really awesome shop&artists. Ps: I assume they are offering me a discount 'cause my tattoo is rather large and it might take more than 8 hours to cover
there’s the chance you move the part of the body that’s being tattooed without realising it and the artist has to put you back in the right position everytime they stop a few seconds for ink.
I didn't get that either...I look all the time...I shouldn't have to ask to look at what I'm paying for...I mean if they're tattooing your back you can't see anything... But if I'm getting my hand or arm tattooed I'm going to look...
It's perfectly fine unless it's in an awkward position. If you need to twist to look at it, you could mess up your positioning a bit. If you look occasionally when they are getting ink, it should be fine. As long as it's not every time.
I got my first tattoo as a bonding thing with my daughter. We got matching butterfly's . Same place the outside of our ankle. Right leg.same butterfly in a different color. It was beautiful .IIt was my first tattoo . I was hooked. I now have 3 tattoos. I plan on getting more tattoos. All of them are e easy to cover with clothing. I will never get my mans or any other names on my body. I actually would have my children's names tattooed on my body. Especially when they are no longer alive. Please let me know your opinion on this comment and any other comment I have made here.
How come they get to change the design last minute, two months after original agreement? The tattoo I got (again) looks nothing like what I originally agreed to. I don't know why I can't get it through to them that my that my tattoos represent my Hometown. I look at my arm and I don't think of my Hometown at all. The trees are totally different, water is going in the wrong direction, my rising sun looks like a harvest moon I don't understand. My experience yesterday was really good as far as he was nice and the place was clean and it wasn't too loud et cetera. But I keep walking away with these cartoon images on me when I'm wanting hyperrealistic, and I am an artist myself, and I come in with a perfect image of what I want. I just don't understand
Maybe try finding an artist that specializes in hyperrealism, or is comfortable recreating your art. Some tattoo artists work as tattoo *artists* not tattoo *copy* machines, you know?
*they're. Well think of it like a hairdresser or a dentist. Some of them like to chat, some of them don't. If you don't want to talk, you can let your artist know.
Im not going to worry too much about annoying my artist. Im going to see the dude for less than 10 hours of my entire life, I just need him to do his job, get my tattoos on me professionally, then that ends the story of him and me. All I can do is sit in his chair and take the pain like a man and pay him whats due, and tip generously. Thats all I can do.
It's your tattoo but it someone else's art for him to do his job he needs to be able to focus you may be there less the 10 hrs of your entire life but the tattoo is there for the rest of your entire life it's like u want a shitty job done so have fun w that
@@jessicamorsey135 actually he's doing a great job, he's a professional who takes pride in his work. Yes the tattoos are on me for life and im damn proud of them. They are better than most, not a "shitty job" at all, so I dont know why you assume that.
Am i the only one who got so confused by the "not making out with your partner" point? Who on earth would go to a tattoo appointment and make out with their partner. Absolutely no way i would ever even consider that....but i would never bring someone along in the firsts place. I feel like it just kinda destroys the experience with the artist and just distracts them.
Shouldn't this be 15 thing not to do at appointments with you? I'm sure some/lots would be on other artists lists but definitely not all. Some are just you getting things you don't like off your chest which others wouldn't mind/care about. One last thing, i know it's a list of things not do at an appointment but it came across as you should never ask for a discount. Is that what you meant or only at the appointment? Hopefully the latter as being a tattoo artist doesn't make you anymore special than anyone else providing a service.
I can give you a thing... don't get tattoos on your hands, neck or face ... basically put it where you have the option not to reveal it if you don't wish too... Your situation may change in the future and it's nice to have the option
So basically: Shut the fuck up the entire time Suffer in silence Stay still Do whatever the “artist” says Do basically all the work while the artist draws on you Pay a shit ton of money The tattoo operator always is vague and in the fog about the price Welcome to the tattoo world
I hate when people, bring people. I mean I don't take people to mammograms, or pap smear. Just saying😁. I talk too much. I've heard a gal moan like she was having sex...that was awkward.😂
"Most of our clients can handle pain but some can't" Uh.... yeah? Duh? I'm not trying to be bitchy but tattoo artists are incredibly entitled. 99% of jobs which deal with customer service deal with most issues you're describing. Of course different jobs have their pros and cons but to be honest sometimes you just have to get over it and get on with it.
I clicked on this worrying that I have done anything annoying in the past but it seems that all of these are pretty common sense...
I too clicked on this for that same worry.. I was kinda surprised some of these were "things" on this list..
Yes it's going to hurt but have you been to the dentist a root canal hurts worse.
Me too 😂
youd be shocked at how stup!d and oblivious "normal" people are.
remember mcdonalds coffee has heat warnings, refridgerators have *interior* safety feature, and millions of americans want to vote for donald trump again...
i wish i lived in a big city but the average intellegence of americans makes me kinda happy i live out in the sticks...
Same here😂🤣
For being a relatively new channel you are so concise and well spoken. Keep up the good work
fr why do so many tattooer youtubers have to be such droning blowhards?
i just came from a clown named james that ranted and droned on about rude tattoo artists for TWENTY FIVE MINUTES my god.
Tbh you should've just cancelled with him
I had a similar situation where he didnt even make a drawing and when I showed up to the parlor, he literally told me ‘oh I cant do what you asked’ so I was like uh okay but I made the deposit and everything so i waited there with him getting NEW ideas for a totally NEW design because it got super awkward and I didn’t want to lose my deposit for nothing.
1. Don't bring your kids
2. Don't bring too many friends - they tend to over crowd the small space
3. Shower and wear deodorant
4. Try not to move around while you're in the tattoo artist's chair
5. Don't be over affectionate with your partner - making out, etc.. It's awkward, weird and it's not the time and place
6. Keep your moaning in pain to a BARE minimum
7. Don't come in sick
8. Don't micromanage the process of the tattoo artists - no nit picking - and don't make more than 3 last minute changes
9. Don't be late to your appointment - if your running late always call - any later than 15 min is unacceptable
10. Don't ask for a discount during your tattoo or after your tattoo is finished - that is what your consultation is for
11. Don't ask for an entire tattoo change at your session / placement / design / size
12. Don't show up hungover, drunk or under the influence - it inhibits your ability to make good decisions - excess bleeding
13. Wear clothes that are clean and accessible - unclean clothing can cause your tattoo to get infected
14. Don't arrive to your appointment sunburned - sun damaged skin does not tattoo well
15. Don't hit on your tattoo artist
🤘
Thanks for saving me time. These are obvious
She probably deals with number 15 quite alot I bet .
Oh and maybe not pre shave the area. My artists don't like their clients to shave the area due to damage or prickly. They just say they got it, just leave it be not to put that area under any extra stress beforehand specifically if you don't normally shave it.
yeah it's pointless & many people (mostly men i bet) can't even properly do it & get cuts lol@@StarLiteDeathRose
That was number 8
Number 11, same tattoo artist.
My first tattoo was on my thigh and I brought a pair of shorts to change into (it was December in Canada so it was freezing)
I'm sure they appreciate the money they make, and hopefully they enjoy it!
This video is very helpful thank u!
I'm planning on getting my 2nd tattoo for Christmas nervous and excited!
Watching this in preparation for my first tattoo in a few days. Super nervous and such. Your videos are helping.
How did it go?
@@connorswallow2288 getting it done tomorrow(I had to reschedule it). I’m so nervous. It’s going to be a shiney pastel Haunter…
Thank you so much for your support!
I usually sit really still during tattoos I moved my head a few times during my last appointment where I had to lay on my stomach with my arm extended because it was done on the back of my fore arm he stopped one of the time I said sorry I didn’t realize I was moving my arm too I felt so bad but he was cool about it because I didn’t move a lot besides that one time
If you have to get up ask the artist if you can get up or if you have to go to the bathroom just say hey I need a rest a minute.
FRances Fehrman we had two breaks I will say something if I need to go to the bathroom
Where I am it is standard to only be charged for time in the chair.
So not for applying the stencil or breaks and such.
Dave Brown same, my artists starts his timer when his needle first hits the skin.
these are good advices, i love this. i am guilty of one of them.. admittedly. i kept moving around a lot, but i tried my best to keep still. i got one professional tattoo done so far, i hope to get more! and i hope to see my tattoo artist again and get another tattoo from her :)
Just had my first tat done, and gotta say struggled to keep a straight face during the color in, but it was fairly large for a first tattoo
I liked this video before I even watched it 😆 I love your content!
Brand spanking new subscriber. I love anything that has to do with tattoos. Great video.
I was so quiet with one of mine that a more experienced artist came over and told the less experienced artist that I was just relaxed not passing out.
i skipped once for my first tatoo a week ago now i know its really required to stay still im going back to my artist and throw a proper tip he did the whole thing in 1 hour and in his time limit
Fellow childfree woman here. A tattoo studio is perhaps the only place where the presence of kids is (mostly) rare. It seems like they are everywhere these days. It's so hard to find an adult-only space in this child-obsessed society!
@Олена буличева they are supposed to be but women bring their kids there all the time.
There are a lot of tattoo artists out there pick one that has the style you want. Go to a lot of shops show them what you want see if they can do it
"Trust your artist's judgement"... Yeah, right.. and with that I have seen multiple where the end result ended up crooked... If you are not happy, speak up until you are.
I talked to my artist today to book an appointment at the end of June. Getting an upside down pentagram and told him to flip the colors around and he seen why I wanted it that way.
I love your intro!
I had two tattoos and luckily I didn't do any of those things, I soooo wanna another tattoo BUT I've spent my tattoo money on a game so it looks like I have to save more money to get another one and thanks for the advice. I am thinking about a dragon one .....
So close! I did the last thing…
When she said a tattoo can go up to 40 mins I laughed, that's a short time, the ones I get usually take 2-4 hours for each appointment
i haven't gotten any yet, but the artist I've already made an appointment for has said it'll take about two hours
Well, she did say 30-40 minutes as a minimum.
Wow you’re so cool
I'm sure she meant the minimum time
My first piece was most of my shoulder and part of my arm and it was a 5 hour session!!
I wish you were in my area I would love to get my first tattoo from you seem so calm and understanding and professional 😩
I tried to tell my friend about the being under the influence while getting tattooed and he thought I was joking. He now wants his 1st tattoo but he parties quite a bit, so hangovers are common.
He might just have to deal with the consequences and learn the hard way
@@completlynormalhypernova666 that's a real stupid idea man
New subscriber great video, concise and easy to follow.

I have a fairly large bicep tattoo coming up. How was the pain for you? May be hard to quantify since it was your first but still
@katiemares5711 the pain wasn't bad.
I’m planning on getting my first tattoo
Hello, is it okay to change placements on the day of my tat appointment?
If it's to a similar shaped place (like from one side of the back to the other, or from ribs to shoulder-blade) is can sometimes work, but if it's to somewhere different it won't work as well. The artist may need to rework some shapes & angles.
Micro managing is the hardest thing to deal w research your artist and trust they know what their doing better then your friends and mom
What is good to wear for a back piece? A regular tshirt or tank top?
Could wear a zip up sweatshirt backwards!
@katiemares5711 would of worse I think sweatshirt is thicker.
I actually got a new tattoo today, and I'm sure I didn't do any of these things. I'll make an edit if I come across one that I ended up doing.
I had to search it! "the zodiac maiden" is the picture in te background.
I have run late in my first appointment and it was bc I took the wrong buss and I didn't know the area and never been there much myself.

I hate to be late and I feel such embarrassment when it happens..

1. will a Tattooist agree to do 2 tattoo's on a Tat virgin (1 is a portrait of Michael myers on my left hand so will take hours, the other is just a symbol from Halloween on my right wrist so literally a minute or 2)?
2. will i have to pay by the Tattoo or all included at an hourly rate?
3. i want the artist to change a bit of hair on my design coz im not good at drawing hair, is that part of the whole price or do i need to pay extra for a bit of redesign?

What about bringing your kid before hand to show him what a tattoo station is, but have them leave the shop before the tattooing begins?
I would suggest against it at all (unless you have organised and okayed it with your artist prior). There are usually multiple artists working in a shop and the slightest accidental bump, or sometimes even motions or sounds can distract the artists focus.
Another reason is that if the child were to slip and hurt themselves in the studio, the public liability insurance would likely not cover the studio as the space is not insured for minors.
Also, even the nicest tattoo studios are likely to have low-brow art on display which is absolutely not kid-friendly!

I always give a tip..... If my tattoo is quoted $250.... I give at least $300.
If my tattoo was quoted $500. Then i give a minimum $600.
@@teeshac8421 Thanks, good to know!
i usually wait until i have 200-500€ saved up or ask for an appointment around when i will have that much
My Tattoo artist charges a set price per hour.
I was worried. Turns out I don't do any of these. Some people are just terrible..
Whoa!! You are beautiful!!
Sometimes I struggle to understand what people are saying, so I decided to try making this comment more cohesive.

what’s wrong w looking at the tattoo when they’re getting more ink ?
there’s the chance you move the part of the body that’s being tattooed without realising it and the artist has to put you back in the right position everytime they stop a few seconds for ink.
Nothing. Sometimes you need a break just ask the artist if you can do that.
Idk about moaning but I definitely shouted out ouch fuck more than once on my back… but the guy used a 15 point needle and had a heavy hand
I try to arrive around 20 minutes early
What do you change the for a sleeve of Rose's. Just a ball field estimate
It’s the artist. They aren’t capable of doing what you want so unfortunately you need to find another artist or else you’ll sincerely regret it.
quesiton do most tattoo shops have henna?
you should ask in advance. where I live I think is quite common.
Some of them do. Some shops do piercings too. Not all though, so you really need to ask or look it up
Moaning from pain stresses the artist.. ok 😂
Do they annoy the tattoo artist are just you? As a tattoo artist?
Bringing friends possibly less so now since covid I think
👍
This is literally common sense
Do tattooists like to talk or to just concentrate on what there doing?
The artist is concentrating on what he's doing
*they're.
Well think of it like a hairdresser or a dentist. Some of them like to chat, some of them don't. If you don't want to talk, you can let your artist know.
Depends on the artist. Ask ahead of your appointment what they prefer
Do you want human connection and consultation while you're working, or would you prefer someone who just pops in headphones and zones out?
Am i the only one who got so confused by the "not making out with your partner" point? Who on earth would go to a tattoo appointment and make out with their partner. Absolutely no way i would ever even consider that....but i would never bring someone along in the firsts place. I feel like it just kinda destroys the experience with the artist and just distracts them.
Tattoos arent always painful.
Rule #1 should appy no matter what the circumstances
So basically:
Shut the fuck up the entire time
Suffer in silence
Stay still
Do whatever the “artist” says
Do basically all the work while the artist draws on you
Pay a shit ton of money
The tattoo operator always is vague and in the fog about the price
Welcome to the tattoo world
Make sure you dont have any dodo pellets if you're getting tats on your butt cheeks
I only yell and moan when I'm giving birth
I hate when people, bring people. I mean I don't take people to mammograms, or pap smear. Just saying😁. I talk too much. I've heard a gal moan like she was having sex...that was awkward.😂
"Most of our clients can handle pain but some can't" Uh.... yeah? Duh? I'm not trying to be bitchy but tattoo artists are incredibly entitled. 99% of jobs which deal with customer service deal with most issues you're describing. Of course different jobs have their pros and cons but to be honest sometimes you just have to get over it and get on with it.
Agreed
Plus nobody knows how they will react to a certain spot getting tattooed.
Everyone has a different pain threshold.
my tattoo artists be ugly
My kitten was attacking me wile I was watching this 😭
Can people with disabilities get a tattoo?
Tattoos r for insecure ppl who need to look make sure everyone knows they r immediately "hip and with it." Comedy gold.
Thanks for taking the time to come and comment, it seems ‘insecurities’ are preferable to whatever drives your need to spread unnecessary negativity ✨
@@hayleetattooer tattoos do not equal a personality. Apparently ur generation thinks so though
I’m boutta get a tattoo next week as a 15 yr old
Kevin Loera omg 15! 😬😬
Yessir
That is way too young! And obviously the tattooist you are going to isn’t a professional if they are tattooing 15 year olds
Skye Brailsford you obviously not from Minnesota and yes it is a professional
The legal age to get a tattoo in Minnesota is also 18
lol that last one yall
down bad fellas?
