    Fall Out Boy is an American rock band formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in 2001. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, drummer Andy Hurley, and guitarist Joe Trohman.
    So Much (for) Stardust is the upcoming eighth studio album by American rock band Fall Out Boy. The album is set to be released on March 24, 2023 on Fueled by Ramen and DCD2. The album reunites the band with producer Neal Avron, who last produced Folie à Deux (2008), and also marks the band's return to their original record label Fueled By Ramen, which last released Take This to Your Grave (2003). The first single from the album, "Love from the Other Side", released on January 18, 2023 alongside the official announcement of the album.

  • @Bad_Wolf_Media
    @Bad_Wolf_Media ปีที่แล้ว +40

    Here's why I would say they are NOT overrated, and this is coming from a casual fan (at best):
    They've had misses, specifically the "Mania" album, but other tracks, also. But even the failures show that they're trying new things. Hit or miss, in this day and age, trying something new and different from what has been successful in the past is a bold choice, and they need to be recognized for that, even if it doesn't always work out.

    • @truthedministry
      @truthedministry ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah, they could have gone full Nickleback and just kept putting out the same song with slightly changes after finding a sound that worked.

      I agree! And while I prefer their older stuff, I think Mania is actually awesome. The Last of the Real Ones is incredible. It was very intentional that they opened up their style; Patrick has always had electronic influences, it just made sense to push in that direction for an album. My favorite FOB album is Folie á Deux, which also experiments with orchestra and R&B influences following two successful albums.

  • @iqramahm2729
    @iqramahm2729 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    i’m glad they experiment & have grown each album. they’ve done great for 2 decades so they must be doing something right. MANIA had its flaws & a messy roll out but it had shining moments too. it’s just unfortunate that many older fans won’t even listen with an open mind. the boys have grown from teens to dads so it only makes sense that their music grew with them.

    @waywardlaser ปีที่แล้ว +54

    I love the band, if anything they’re underestimated in many circles. Mania is the only album I don’t care for but the new one out tomorrow is shaping up to be some of their best work yet.
    Folie A Deux is still an S tier album for me.

    • @truthedministry
      @truthedministry ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Folie A Deux is possibly the best album ever made. Every song on that album is catchy and offers something new and interesting. Even Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Queen, Rush, Black Sabbath, and Pink Floyd had numerous duds that I skip every time on even their best albums.
      I've hated every album since. Sure, there are some killer songs they've made since then, but 1-3 good songs on a 10-13 track record is pathetic. Listened to So Much (for) Stardust at least 3 times so far, and it's another dud for me. Heaven, Iowa is quickly becoming my favorite song ever, but I only like 4 tracks on the album, so it's pretty mediocre compared to even Take This To Your Grave.

      @@danielpatternson6149 Lol, that's one of the only tracks I remember from that album, because it's that is a clever turn of phrase, which is rare on their post hiatus albums. Most of their hooks rely on repetition of generic lines devoid of the same creativity shown in the lyrics of their earlier albums. I can't believe you like Young Volcanoes though.

    • @danielpatternson6149
      @danielpatternson6149 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@truthedministry what I can't believe is that you say Michael Jackson and The Beatles have "numerous duds that you skip every time." Granted, I'm not a big fan of tracks like "Pretty Young Thing" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," but both Abbey Road and Thriller totally top Folie A Deux. And "generic lines devoid of the same creativity shown in the lyrics of their earlier albums" is very erroneous, as lyrics like "Wherever I go, trouble seems to follow I only plugged in to save rock and roll" rival some of the greatest lyrics I've ever heard. And, if you care so much about the quality of lyrics, you should be criticizing songs like The Beatles' "Love Me Do" and Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be Starting Something" since the lyrics in those songs are actually worse than FOB's entire discography.
      As far as I'm concerned though, people who listen to music solely for the lyrics aren't music lovers.

  • @parishofrock2963

    I don’t think you should judge a band based on 1 bad album otherwise Queen would be judged on Hot Space. Ignoring Mania I think all their albums are good, I particularly like Save R&R. Most of all though, they’re great live.

    • @luisgarcia1337
      @luisgarcia1337 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Personally, Mania isn't that bad. Sure, it's a lot more pop than their older stuff but the hooks are pretty good and they have some good tracks, like Hold Me Tight and Bishops Knife Trick. I'd say that American Beauty is somewhat worse. The hooks can get kinda annoying (Centuries comes to mind) and a lot of the lyrics are more weird than usual, such as Uma Thurman being nonsensical at times. There's still some good tracks, like Jet Pack Blues or Twin Skeletons, but in my opinion it's their weakest album.
      Besides that, I agree with everything else you said.

    • @alexbecerramusic3820
      @alexbecerramusic3820 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@luisgarcia1337 THIS! I agree with you. The moments I have issues with on AB/AP are harder for me to come to terms with than the overall vibes on
      M A N I A. Sunshine Riptide and Wilson are two of my fav FOB songs.
      All that being said though… Twin Skeleton’s is arguably one of the strongest album closers they’ve ever had. That song goes 0 to 100 and never lets up.

    • @luisgarcia1337
      @luisgarcia1337 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@alexbecerramusic3820 yeah, Mania really isn't as bad as how it was shown to be in the video. What the original comment said about not judging bands by one album, can also apply to albums themselves by not judging the full project by the worst track. Young and Menace does Mania no favors and is an outlier in the album. The rest of the songs are much better, but still suffer from certain problems that hold the songs back.
      As for Twin Skeletons, it does go hard for a closer and it's probably up there with other FOB closers like West Coast Smoker, and The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes imo. Although, So Much (for) Stardust [the title track from the recent album] is also very good and probably surpasses Twin Skeletons imo.

      @@parishofrock2963 the production is a bit too much I will say. Young and Menace as well as Stay Frosty come to mind there. Church would also be a good example of a song that could've been much better. There's a video where Patrick breaks the song down, and plays a clip of him singing some scrapped lyrics that sound much more interesting than the ones that made it to the final song. There's also the LLAMANIA EP? Album? But it's a collection of 3 demos for Mania that were saved, that also show what the album could've been had they not decided to scrap it and remake it before release.

If people like their new stuff that's great and I'm happy that it's positively impacting people but I can't help but feel like they are only using like, 40% of their potential most of the time and can do much better. Like in the case of their new album, more guitar does not inherently mean it's better! I didn’t think they were overrated before and i absolutely don’t think they’re overrated now (after smfs). The amount of experimental sounds they brought into the (almost) mainstream scene is truly amazing and i think more people would think that if they listened through infinity on high od folie a deux. Save rock n roll and AB/AS were also good albums, not perfect or innovative (with a few exceptions like ‘twin skeletons’), but definitely good in that more pop-like direction they took. Mania is a controversial one but I still think it had its ups (church, stay frosty, hold me tight).
    So much for stardust is the breath of fresh air the long time fans needed. A lot of older bands from the pop punk and metalcore scenes are coming back to their older sounds now and I think that’s great. After a period of uncertainty and trying to appeal to the masses, we’re going back to the roots and honesty in creativity.

    That's really the gist of the band, their main decade of the 2000's was their peak of being overplayed, yet still enjoyable. The last decade...I tried...I TRIED but when my girlfriend had listened to the main single from Mania, I checked out from them and just stuck with the 2000's. To hear that snippet for their upcoming album, it looks like that going back to the end of the 2000's for their peak, with learning what worked and didn't work for the 2010's and hopefully get a better combo of both that everyone can enjoy again.

    I wrote this comment regarding MANIA in the FOB sub recently and I think a lot would find it interesting (I will forever defend this album, its honestly one of my favorites by them):
    I think it gets a lot of hate because people just don't get the song or look into the concept behind the album. I assume this because I don't really see or hear people talk about the meaning, just that they don't like it because differs so greatly from most of the rest of their music and it can be hard to digest.
    MANIA is about the cycles and extreme highs and lows you feel when you're manic. The waves crashing represents the vast range of emotions that wash over you as you're building up to that manic state and also the dull emptiness you feel as that wave recedes back into the sea. Young and Menace represents the peak of that mania.
    The lyrics are kind of all over the place as well as the music, as your brain would be in a manic state. The build up between the lines of "we've gone way too fast for way too long" and "I only wrote this down to make you press rewind" is IMO a perfect representation of that process of introspection that takes you to that next low then the kind of goofy "oops I did it again" that starts back up to the peak of "and send a message, I was young and a menace" then BAM, it cascades into an overwhelming and jumbled expression of emotions that doesn't really make sense.
    The whole album is modeled around this concept, I love it so much.

    i feel like they get trashed on too much for anything that doesn't match their first four albums. like people are insanely hypercritical of their stuff, and i say this as someone who agrees that mania was messy. im already seeing people have gripes about the new album still being pop oriented like okay??? did you expect them to go full back into the scene??? they literally SAID it wasnt that. like doesnt it occur to people that sometimes you just grow out of a genre if you arent vibing anymore. they've been comfortable with pop rock before, i dont get the hate for that now. they clearly arent doing pop stuff to please others anymore, bc all they hear is ppl begging them to just avoid pop at all costs.

    I first heard Fall Out Boy around 2009. I don't think they were that popular in Britain. I hadn't heard of them before hearing one of their songs on a free compilation CD that came with an issue of Kerrang magazine. I thought they were ok, but not great, including their early albums. Personally, I could at very lost, tolerate them. Right as they started with Sugar We’re Going Down. But very quickly couldn’t stand that song. The biggest reason was the vocals. Something always felt shrill yet flat to the singer’s voice for me. I couldn’t stand hearing their stuff. And their growing popularity only made me not stand them more, because again… that voice was nails on a chalkboard for me. The rest of the music was fine, the lyrics passable. I couldn’t say I hated them, but something between that and simply apathetic towards them.
