Excellent video! I have a nice collection of hollows and rounds, but was missing only a #6 round. Your method allowed me to make the plane with tools (chisels) I already own and saved me from having to buy $600 worth of specialized floats. Thank you!
Hi Chris, Glad you liked it. 20 years ago, I recall filming that story and David being very excited to share the information. He and I were both in the machining / metal working industries so we both were digging the story concept. Cheers! Chris
I appreciate the video, but don’t understand using a batten as you do. Why not cut in a rabbet for cutting rounds and add a chamfer to use when cutting with a hollow? Far less material to remove with the H or R plane and it makes them run on rails that hold true right where you want them.
Hi @TheSmeac , Being that this was filmed about 20 years ago, the fog of time obscures my understanding of why David was doing what he did in that regard. Cheers Chris

Hi JimmyMac, I am very happy to hear you enjoyed the video and were able to construct a new plane to fill in your collection!!!!
Cheers!
Chris
Fascinating to watch you go through the process and explain it.
Great video. Thanks!!!
