@@marcchristie180 "The Best Television on Television" I do not have. I was able to get most when I was a teenager. '71 forward. Still looking for 1975. It's gotta be somewhere Marc. We should talk sometime. Thanks!
The music to the original MTM pilot *might* be better than what was used in the show. I LOVE how the band builds as the intro progressives and explodes once she's reached Minneapolis. For some reason Sonny Curtis' original line "Girl you'll be so far from home" was also changed to "Girl this time you're all alone..." I assume to better assert the fact that she was single in the show. But wow, that original mini-pilot music was amazing. In a way I kind of hate they changed it before the actual pilot aired later that fall.
Originally scheduled for Tuesdays at 8pm(et)- on CBS programmer Mike Dann's insistence, becauase he felt she wasn't going to be a success, and tried to "bury" it between "TO ROME WITH LOVE" and "HEE HAW"- Fred Silverman, who succeeded Dann in July 1970, believed Mary's program deserved a fighting chance.......and essentially "ripped up" Dann's Tuesday night lineup (moving "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" and "GREEN ACRES" before "HEE HAW", and "TO ROME WITH LOVE" after it), placing Mary on Saturday nights at 9:30 [following another urban sitcom, "ARNIE"] just before the season began.
One of my favorite television season campaigns.
❤ do you remember the CBS fall 🍁 campaign...the eyes have it??
