The Exorcist was the greatest horror film ever made, it's going to be incredibly difficult to match it's raw power and shock value no matter how many jump scares are are added to the edit
The original didn't rely on jump scares, it was pure atmosphere and visuals that made it great. I'm nervous about this one as it it seems it's going down the jump scare route
It's just been done so many times. People have to find a new formula and be innovative without trying to be innovative, that is what makes innovative movies.
Lifelong horror fan here. I watched The original Exorcist in 1975 when I was in my early teens and I still consider it one of the scariest films ever, if not the scariest. What made it so powerful IMO was the slow buildup with a gradual incursion of evil into very real, gritty lives of people who seemed absolutely credible. The tension was rising, the setting and characters were 100% believable, so that by the time the pea soup was flying, you were all in. The problem with a lot of Hollywood horror now is that they don't take the time to build up that tension or develop the characters, and just go overboard with over-the-top, all-out explosions of supernatural phenonema in your face 15 minutes in, so that you're just numb to it.
Amen. Couldn't have said it better myself. Alot of the problem is people's attention span nowadays. The general horror audience is awful and expects a jump scare every 2 minutes or they're bored.
I remember watching Exorcist when I was 10. So we're talking early 80's. It's a movie that I still won't watch alone, nor will I watch it at night. I seldom watch horror movies today because I'm not about gore and so many movies are so cliche it's ridiculous. This Exorcist intrigues me. I may go see this, dare I say in the theater?!?!?! I'm so going to need my husband there.
Indeed I was all of 9 years old when the, Exorcist was released and everything about it was mysterious even the movie poster was enigmatic showing a shadowy man approaching a foggy house nobody knew what this was about, why I didn't even know what a Exorcist meant, and probably a lot people didn't either; you have to remember no Internet no Social Media no You Tube, It was all word of Mouth, I clearly remember asking grown ups what the movie was about and it was if they had seen the Unspeakable .
My whole family loves all horror films, so I've seen a ton since a young age. Tbh, most of the Asian horror films have a kind of subtle but mind invading creepy dread inducing factor to them that most American ones lack. I became somewhat desensitized to scary movies, but there's only one that legit gave me a nightmare when I went to bed that night, which is very abnormal for me as I never have nightmares. It's a Japanese film called Kairo, one scene in particular caused my nightmare. The channel Spikima Movies even made a video essay about that one scene, it's called Kairo Anatomy of the Scariest Scene Ever.
I wish that I was able to experience the same thing audiences experienced when the original first came out. It literally scared people into church, people were fainting in movie theaters. The original is truly the best horror movie ever made
As a kid, I was badly damaged psychologically for weeks after I watched some scenes of the exorcist. We weren’t allowed to watch the movie but of course my curiosity guided me to disobey my mother and I ended up paying the ultimate price for it. I was so scared, I couldn’t sleep for several days
@@Zone0utI watched on Halloween last year. I’m 16 and love scary movies. That movie messed me up. On top of that I’m Catholic so everything in the movie is very real to me. There’s something different about that movie. I genuinely couldn’t look at the girls face. And this is probably coincidence but my house lights started flickering at one part, and when I woke my dad up to tell him it stopped and didn’t happen again. I literally asked him “should we be watching this??” Im so glad my little brother fell asleep almost immediately because if he had watched it could have serious hurt him.
No doubt. People in comments saying this movie won't come close, of course but let's be glad we got the original women back and a good horror for today's standards.
i don’t think people realize what made the original movie so scary was the lack of media like it at the time. people had never seen something like that presented on screen, leading to a huge cultural impact, that today we just don’t find shocking.
The scene where Sharon brings Father Karras into Regan's bedroom to examine the bumps on her abdomen was terrifying. I kept thinking that Regan/Demon was going to wake up, break her straps, and kill both of them. I'm not that brave. I'm not walking into any dark room where there's a demon-possessed person. Father Karras should have told Sharon to wait until the following afternoon when there's plenty of daylight. 😆
One of the reasons why The Exorcist worked for me was that it was based on much older times. The tone of the film felt different and you could feel the evil lurking in the shadows even though the film didn't show anything. It just gave out an eerie feeling all by itself. It's worth noting that when The Exorcist was released, it was the first time the public had ever seen anything like it and therefore had such an impact on people. Similar to Star Wars, at the time it was the first of its kind and so it was extremely successful. This new film right away has that modern take which removes a layer of horror already. You don't get the same feeling of horror when the girl walks into the church as you do when Regan walks into the living room and urinates herself. Not saying this film will suck, I'm simply making observations and opinions. Still I am very excited for this to come out and I hope its a good one!
Couldn't have said it better myself. I think even with modern cinematography they could have still pulled of that eerie tone of the original but this definitely feels more like a modern generic horror more than anything. I'm hoping it does something clever to be a decent movie but so far it's not looking like it'll be anywhere near as terrifying as the original
I can already tell this film is going to ignore every note from Blatty and try to be a creature feature (again). These studios give money to anyone who shows up with a script written from a week's worth of Adderall.
in The Exorcist, the cameras were static most of the time as if you were frozen in fear with them and the visuals were grainy that added a lot to the creepy documentary snuff film vibe and then shaky cam when there is some tense shit happening. The Exorcist was unforgiving in terms of every beat of the story, direction, cinematography, themes, acting, writing. The Exorcist was a full force of filmmaking, but this shit is the same director of Halloween Kills.
I would agree with you completely. The trailer feels a little too modern. Didn't quite feel like what the original does except for that last scene was pretty creepy as F
Spot on "the modern take". (Saw it, '74, as a very scared teen). This is Suburbiaxist, too many characters I could count, diluting the storyline, the scenes the girl walking down the aisle is the new M3gan dance, now spoiled and soiled. Not a slightest reference, (except the dog fight), that I could notice, about the significance of the original excavation scene and desolate Northern Iraq's sinister feel. The now cliche Regan's original horrendous makeup times 2. I say critics will zero in on the script and the new gen of viewers will enjoy it. Not that there's anything wrong with it, it's just about timing and era of having tasted the original recipe.
As a child I was terrified! Around 18 y/o I got over it! This movie was ok but like U the best part for me was seeing Regan and Chris at the end!!! I screamed Reagan!!!!😅
Yes R.I.P. But Friedkin and Blatty never did tell the world that they both got fired from THE EXORCIST 2 project back in 1976. Warner Bros. felt that their vision was weak and the story absurd. They kept it a secret for 45 years.
The reason the original exorcist works so well is because it felt real, it felt like a documentary, it was claustrophobic and centred around one room for the most part. the script and the dialogue was terrifying, language that we had never heard before. modern films just looked to digitally clean and fresh now, they don't have the look of the films from the 70s that realism that grit
Exactly, and also the original had a cursed feeling about it. The deaths of actors, a literal serial killer being in it, freak accidents happening on set. It was just little weird things like that which made the movie what it was and that’s something that can’t be replicated or topped.
Yup. It’s the same reason why the original Texas chainsaw massacre was so good too. This movie will probably be watchable but it’s going to disappoint.
The original will always and forever remain the scariest movie of all times, not only did it feel real, the sets and the things the production team did to make it feel real is INSANE, like the swing camera from the stairs going up, the cold room to get the effect form their mouths, and the make up, etc. etc.
They probably will never recreate anything like the original. The reason may never be known, but, I think it has to do with the real unfortunate things that happened off camera. I think they may have delved to deep into making it as real as possible, and possibly it manifested into reality in certain ways.
The biggest challenge for this movie is gonna be the fact that the original movie still scares the living hell out of people , so for this movie to do well , it has to be better than the original one , which is gonna be a hard task. All the best to the creators of this movie , I hope your movie does well enough to make another one next year.
It doesn’t have to be better than the original lol god being are so over dramatic about movies. Just let it be an exorcist movie. It doesn’t have to top the one from 50 years ago
Unfortunately it won't be as good as the original because it doesn't have the element of surprise. People went to the original and had no idea what they were about to see and it scared the crap out of them. Now people are desensitized due to everything that has came after. Exorcist and movies like Alien and John Carpenter's The Thing and Halloween etc... blazed the trail that everyone has since copied. The trailer give me a vibe that it's going to be just another copy that's trying too hard to equal or better the original. I'll see it and try to temper my expectations.
The original came out at a time when nobody saw anything like it. There was suspense and desent from being a normal person to a depraved, possessed monster was gradual. We went on a journey with the mother through the doctor's tests and theories about what the trouble with the child was. The book was stunning in that respect. So, as the interviews with Blatty states, the film had a sort of documentary feel about it. So, considering all of that along with all of the movies depicting demonic possession, I have my doubts about this being very scary. Unless the director has done something we haven't seen before in this movie.
Honestly I don't think it's going to be that scary it seems like it's going to be pretty good but nothing like the original movie though that was a force to be reckoned with
Just some money grab scheme. Doesn't even compare with the original 1973. 50 years have passed & no matter how many demonic possession films they make each year, none will get close to the quality and the impact of the original. And let's remember there was absolutely no CGI back then.
@@evanlinden4410 I’m curious as well as to where reagen is however you can just easily write in the film she is in Etiopía helping children suffering from life long effects of being possessed 😝 on a serious note why wouldn’t Linda Blair want to be part of this film ? She already did a sequel 3 years after the original then some awful comedy spoof repossessed she will forever be type cast with the role of reagen McNeil even posing nude many years ago for Qui magazine was not going to remedy her type cast career and trust me as a man I can tell you Linda Blair is beautiful but you still see Reagen when you look at her so the only thing I believe left for Linda as far as acting is to welcome roles like Exorcist believer $$$$!
For those who are commenting that the original Exorcist was not that scary or "Saw" or other horror movies were much scarier, either did not experience this movie in the 70's or watched it on television. Watching this movie in a theater back in the day was the most horrifying experience for almost all and no amount of convincing those who just didn't have that experience will never understand, period!
Exactly, It must've been really scary back then. People need to understand that the Exorcist was a really brand new type of horror that no one has ever seen before. But nowadays it's pretty common to see horror movies and gory stuff like that so of course people might not find it scary now. Plus Hollywood is starting to run out of idea so there's that too
@@coop3601 yup! and I was definitely one of them, except I was carried out because I was shaking so much- I was 8 years old and my teenage Aunt & her friends took me to see it. She never babysat me after that!
My mother saw the original Exorcist in the theatre, someone actually had a seizure while watching it. That’s how crazy it was. There are documentaries which explain the sheer pandemonium around the original. Nothing will ever come close.
@@michaelarias3310True, but the bigger reason was because it was wayyy ahead of it's time as far as makeup, acting skills and a lot of other reasons, too❤
Watched the original with my sister and my mom when i was around 9 year's old and that movie got me into horror films Hands down the best horror film i've seen to this day and nothing is even close.
Facts. This and the halloween theme are the best. This one def in first place though. Maybe not as popular, but when you hear it... Goosebumps like you said.
@@KoalaMarch77 I know... the little snippets of Tubular Bells just feels like throwing little nostalgia fishes to the clapping sea lions, one by one. People are so easily pleased by so very little.
Just finished watching the movie, it's pretty bad and everyone involved should be ashamed. It's so bad, Pazuzu issued a statement saying that he was not associated to the production of this film in any way, shape, or form. There's nothing in this movie that resembles the dread, the opressive atmosphere of the original, which is the greatest horror movie ever made; the performances are flat and the plot is pretty unimaginative. It's as if Disney had decided to have a go at exorcism films. Save yourself the time and disappointment and don't watch this, go watch the original film from 1973 or the excellent sequel The Exorcist 3.
I remember watching The Exorcist as a kid and how badly I was traumatized, but now is my favorite horror movie haha. I know this will be a new generation of horror and I cannot wait. This looks terrifying.
@@lindasilva4582clearly youve not watched many movies then. Go try martyrs. The foreign version. I guarantee you wont even make it through the entire film, let alone compare it to the exorcist.
The girl who played Katherine was so good you can definitely tell the parallels with the original movie. I wish they could have invested more into developing her character
The creators of "The Exorcist" could never have anticipated that their scripting efforts would result in the creation of the most iconic and legendary horror film in existence. Remarkably, they experienced a profound connection to the essence of their work during its production, sensing a genuine presence of the supernatural forces they were portraying.
Hardly. Considering that Burnstyn is now 40 years older than when she appeared in the original, the tune is the only connection audiences can make to the original. They HAD to put something like that in there otherwise few would bother to make any connection at all. Pretty lame
In this film, there's a notable trend where Christian characters are portrayed in a negative light as well as any other movies out there. The priest, depicted as a coward, is killed while praying, while the pastor serves only as a peripheral character. Additionally, a church-going father makes a selfish decision, and his daughter, who is also portrayed as a devout Christian, meets a tragic end. This portrayal is consistent with a pattern observed in many Netflix series, where Christian figures are either depicted as weak or are prematurely removed from the storyline. Interestingly, the film also features a black female character practicing some voodoo like stuff who is portrayed positively and as a cool person, adding a contrasting depiction of religious practices. This choice, along with the incomplete prayer of another father who, despite not finishing his prayer, manages to save his daughter, underscores a recurring theme in the narrative's treatment of Christian characters. So this movie is telling you that it's not God who saves you, but yourself.
I agree. There will never be another. A lot of newer horror movies seem to be action movies with jump scares with no build up leading up to them. There's No definitive story line. And even if there is one, they veer off course. Additionally, in many cases, they have too many actors with basically no pertinent purpose. They're simply there to be killed off in gruesome terrifying manner. Horror movies back then kept it simple, less actors, less commercialized production, no veering off from the original plot, and the jump scares made sense because there was suspense build up leading to them.
2:10 I love how Chris says “we’ve met before”, her playing a major role in this film is one of the only reasons I’m holding out hope that it’ll be good. Plus, Leslie Odom Jr. is a fantastic actor, so I’m sure he and Ellen Burstyn will be the highlights. But I think it would be more impactful if Regan and Chris were helping Leslie’s character together, and Regan should have delivered the “we’ve met before” line to Pazuzu instead of her mom. It’d be more effective because REGAN was the one who suffered the most at his hands. I wanna see her get revenge on Pazuzu.
Linda Blair said she had nightmares and wasn't the same after doing the Exorcist films. It would have been nice if she was the Grandmother...plot twist! LoL..but I loved Ellen Burstyn as Regan's mom too.
That's an interesting point, but Regan never really met Pazuzu like Chris did. Chris experienced the horror from the outside. Regan claimed to have no memories of the events.
The Exorcist is the Greatest MOVIE ever made. It’s a Masterpiece that will never be matched. There is a timelessness to it that Never gets dated. That period 1973 was the Golden Era Of Artistic merit.
I was very into horror as a kid growing up in the 90s. As a general rule, my parents would let me watch/rent any horror movie I wanted except one...The Exorcist. My mom would go on to tell me she saw it in theaters and was so disturbed by it that she didn't want that movie in the house and was afraid it would traumatize me. I finally saw it when I was 15 or so.
OMG DID WE LIVE THE SAME LIFE. My dad and I were horror fanatics and my mom said she didn’t care what I watched but to not being the exorcist in the house so I didn’t. I’m 21 years old now and still haven’t but this movie it’s lowkey encouraging me to 😂
It just isn't the same without the genius of William Peter Blatty. Exorcist 1 and 3 are absolute masterpieces that simply cannot be surpassed by the modern style of directing and movie making. It was what Blatty DIDN'T show on screen - by arriving late and cutting early that was so damned scary. Watch them again with this in mind and you'll see what I mean. With all that being said, this did send a bit of a chill up my spine, especially when Chris McNeil showed up on screen. I'll be checking it out for sure. The way they only played a small part of the tubular bells theme from the original interspersed between cuts until the black and white flashes towards the end was very well done btw. But people just don't get that the original movie is not really about possession, it's about the loss of faith. That faith being chipped away at bit by bit, by small but constant evils, and the re-discovery of that FAITH when confronted by a terrible and nearly overwhelming evil.
I agree except the fact that Blatty didn’t show much in the first film because he didn’t direct it. Much like Stephen King, he gets almost all the praise for the adaption when in fact he was just the narrative storyteller. Exorcist 3 was great, but it paled in comparison to when he had a director willing to challenge his script pacing and certain themes he had in place. Similar to George Lucas. He’s not a great director in my mind, but his imagination is amazing when he collabs with strong directors and great screenwriters. Friedkin and Blatty apart were so so, but together were a match made in heaven. One catholic, one atheist.
In this much-anticipated sequel to the 1973 classic "The Exorcist," several aspects fall short, especially when compared to the original cinematic masterpiece. The screenplay, a vital component in any film's success, couldn't reach the same heights as its predecessor. It lacked the depth and complexity that made the original Exorcist so compelling. Character development, another hallmark of the original, was notably absent. The original film created memorable, multi-dimensional characters, while the sequel's characters failed to make a lasting impact. The sequel also played it safe in terms of profanity and controversial themes. The original wasn't afraid to push boundaries, but this follow-up chose a more conservative path. Pacing is critical in horror films, and the sequel's pacing often felt rushed or disjointed in comparison to the original's meticulous build-up of tension. One of the most significant differences was the lack of psychological disturbance in the sequel. The original Exorcist delved deep into the psychological aspects, making it profoundly unsettling. The iconic head-spin scene from the 1973 film set a high bar for special effects. Unfortunately, the sequel failed to deliver effects as realistic and terrifying as its predecessor. A clear exorcist character was central to the original film, but this follow-up didn't offer a well-defined central figure, missing an opportunity for a compelling character. Sound effects and the demon's voice, both pivotal in creating the eerie atmosphere of the original, fell flat in the sequel. Another missed opportunity was the sequel's inability to generate the same level of cultural impact. The original Exorcist became a cultural phenomenon, influencing the horror genre and leaving an indelible mark on popular culture. In comparing the ending to "Drag Me to Hell," a movie unrelated to the original Exorcist, it becomes apparent how the sequel failed to deliver a lasting impression. The original, on the other hand, concluded with a powerful and unforgettable ending. While any sequel faces the daunting challenge of living up to a cinematic classic, this particular follow-up struggled to capture the essence and impact of the original "Exorcist," leaving audiences wanting more. I made a conscious choice to abstain from visiting the theaters for this release, feeling it was more of a box office cash grab than a genuine continuation of the classic. In my act of protest, I opted to watch it through other means, and in hindsight, I'm relieved I did. The sequel, while disappointing, didn't tarnish the original's legacy for me. Let David Gordon Green fuk you; let him fuk you! The movie sucks coks through a glory hole with no orgasm.
I like how we already get to see some character development from her, a mother who tried science first to help her daughter but ended up resorting to religion, something she didn't believe, to help her and now that she knows demons exists she dived into learning more about it
I know it probably can’t top the original, but this actually looks good and freaky af. Most horror films these days are just bad but hopefully they did this right.
@@toomanyaccountsI have and they were all crap EXCEPT the original 73 and 3 was ok. This could be a decent film. People way to hard on stuff these days
One thing I’ll give this trailer alone is the overall aesthetic that The Exorcist films always have. From what I see so far, it isn’t relying a whole lot on jump scares but rather the horror of demon possession. That’s what made the first Exorcist film so haunting, and exceptionally horrifying. This movie won’t top the 1973 classic but I appreciate how close it’s trying to replicate the vibe from the first film.
And that is all people want something like the original. I noticed that aesthetic of the demonic make up straight away looks quite good not CGI rubbish.
What made the original so incredibly terrifying for me was the religious aspect--especially being brought up Catholic! I never watched any of the *new movies, but will see this one
I love all the references to the original. Like when the girl says “mother please make it stop” - that’s exactly what Regan said in the original. With the exception of “it’s burning” vs “it’s hurting”. Also the flashing scenes at the end of this trailer references a banned trailer from the original 70s version. I don’t exactly remember the reason it got banned, but I believe it had to do with seizures (?). Super excited for this.

SPOILER ON THE ORIGINAL - I just watched the exorcist for the first time yesterday with my mom. She watched it in theaters when she was younger. It was pretty good for subliminal messages and very well made considering it’s time. Although it didn’t make me hide under the blankets but it definitely caught my full attention. And as a first time viewer I was confused about the reason why the devil possessed the girl and why the priest was in Iraq. Like how did the pazuzu statue relate to her in any way (the statue showed itself again during her exorcism). Yes she used a Ouiji board but why her out of all the people probably using it? I haven’t read the book but I plan on it to answer these questions I have. And I was confused about the scratching and noises in the attic then nothing was seen up there then it was suddenly no longer a problem. Again, maybe I just need to watch it again in case I missed something the first time since it was my very first time watching it. I’m gonna watch the new exorcist movie later today with my mom as well. My mom and I looove horror movies and I often draw horror as well. If anyone has answers to these questions or things I’m confused on, please let me know so I’ll understand the next time I watch or look out for things when watching and please no hate, I just want to learn❤
The little girl got possessed because she was talking to "Mr Howdy on a spirit board", the beginning being based in Iraq is because the Priest who performed the exorcism on the little girl was the archeologist working on the pazzuzu site in Iraq.
I agree with what you are saying. I remember a panel for Night of the Demons cast and they said the script would just say… “now she’s or he’s possessed” But as an actor what does that mean? It takes true acting ability to act possessed.
I watched the original exorcist round my friends house and their dad owed a video shop. I was 7 when I watched it in 1977. Messed me up. I had to sleep in my parents room for 2 weeks and couldn't have the lights off. I have never ever watched it again.
Of course. At this point with these continuations, I believe they aren't trying to make them better than the first ones. They're just milking it as long as they can. They know people are going to go see it tho.
The old timers got to chill with the bad reviews of the sequel and how “nothing can beat the original”. You all saw it when the concept was new and that made it scary. Cinema has developed since then and the Younger generations have other well made and scary horror movies to compare it to which might not make us adore the 1973 version as you all do. This sequel is good, forget the negative reviews.
First watched The Exorcist with my mum. When we saw the trailer at the beginning of Oppenheimer, the crowd lost their minds when Tubular Bells started blasting! It was the best reaction I’ve seen for a movie trailer in a packed theatre in a long time!
How many times have they tried to make a film similar to The Exorcist with new Exorcist movies and terrible movies that tried to be like The Exorcist. It just doesn't work. You can't remake classics like The Exorcist, Alice Sweet Alice, Poltergeist, the Friday the 13th films, the Nightmare on Elm Street Films, The Shining, etc. You know why? Because they had an aura to them that cannot be matched today and they were made in a time people knew how to make films. To be honest, I'm not even excited for the new Beetlejuice movie.
It is nice to see, no matter how the film is remade, that they managed to bring back Ellen Burstyn! Also this looks more promising in tone with the original film, as opposed to any of the later sequels from the 2000s and even that TV remake. I’ll have hope this will be scary!
I honestly don't know how this can possibly be any scarier than the other dozen or so movies based on possession Hollywood has released in the last decade?? I mean, any scarier than The CONJURING??
That’s everyone’s problem. They can’t just admit that the original will never ever be topped, BUT does not mean this movie will be a shit show. People just judge too fast. I’m excited
Ngl... the part where she says "God played a trick on you.." smiles and then the loud black and white imagery flashing with sounds and the theme song then plays was SOO GOOD. Saw this as a trailer during Oppenheimer and was surprised how great this looked! 👏🏽
The original Exorcist came out in 1973. 50 years ago. As still as scary today as it was then. They should have just left this masterpiece alone in my opinion.
That movie wasn’t scary, that movie was actually pretty fucking funny. It didn’t hurt that all of it was so fake that you couldn’t help but laugh your ass off. If people had heart attacks I pity them but I don’t know that they could possibly have been that strong to begin with.
Recommend listening to Ellen talk about people fainting on first viewing of the exorcist. I remember reading about ppl going into churches so many people were so affected as it was a Oscar film about one of the most traumatic Terrifying subjects that could ever be covered. The acting was just outstanding the effects way ahead of their time they’re still mind blowing, especially the end scenes it was more than a film. It was an absolutely phenomenal and I really give it so much support for them to try and come up with another sequel as it’s so difficult to follow perfection.

I’m here to give full credit to the person who edited this trailer. The way he threw in the Tubular bells by Mike Oldfield (music from the original Exorcist) is what made my ears perk up. I was sitting there waiting for Oppenheimer to start and thought here’s a trailer for yet another horror film but then the bells played….and stopped….and my heart stopped, and I said to myself’ “could it be…? It can’t… “ and then I yelled both in horror and excitement that IT ISSSS.” Full marks to the editor!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼That build up was everything.
I was 11 years old when I saw the original at the drive in theater with my parents and my little brother. It was scary indeed, but thoroughly enjoyed it.
Here’s how the pitch meeting went Writer “hey guys! Great idea for a new movie, a direct sequel to the Exorcist but instead of one girl we’ll have two!” Studio Exec “meh” Writer “what if we made one of the girls black?!” Exec “Sold!”
“And what if we bring the mom back from the first movie! Only now she’s an expert on exorcisms, despite not having access to any of the catholic tools or methodology from being a woman and all.”
My mother saw The Exorcist (1973) in theaters, she was only 8 years old at the time. It’s her all time favorite horror movie, and the only movie she deems “still scares the shit out of her”. I remember we went to Blockbuster back around 2001 and rented The Exorcist for a family movie night. I watched it at 5 years old! Anyways, the movie was so traumatizing for me, I only made it to the spider walk scene before running out of the room in terror. In our house, at the time, we had a set of stairs similar to the one in that scene just above our tv area in the living room and after watching that, I never liked looking at the stairs at night anymore for the rest of my childhood. It took me 10 years later to get through my fear and actually sit down and watch The Exorcist in full when I was then 15. I absolutely love the movie now and it’s a must play every October for me, but it still makes my skin crawl every time I watch it, especially during the Pazuzu jump scares. Now, just as back then for my mom, I will go see this one in theaters. I don’t expect it to top the original, but I hope it represents the franchise right this time after many bad remakes and sequels in the years after and pays homage to the original respectfully.
@@Enigma814 Try again troll. You do realize you can see a rated R movie under 18 with an accompanying parent or guardian in, you know, America right? 🤡
Umm it’s not unrealistic a mother who went though what Chris daughter did she wouldn’t wanna see it happen to anyone else she ain’t even as old as Father Time from the original who died trying to give the exorcism
I got so bored during this movie that I started searching for a real horror film while watching it. Fortunately, I made the right decision and didn't even finish this one. Instead, I switched to watching "As Above, So Below," which still gives me chills.
I saw the original when I was 10 years old in a pitch black room by myself. It was both amazing and terrifying. Little did I know how much the original scarred me as I cannot watch ANY movie with demonic possessions as a plot. What a masterpiece!
It was so horrifying that I only watched about 10 minutes of the first one on TV further into the movie and was so scared I had to turn the channel. It was especially scary because this wasn’t when I was 10; It was when I was 34. And I’ve seen much more terrifying shows before: I’ve seen THE KARDASHIANS!! 😱
I did like a lot of what I saw of the third “Exorcist” with George C. Scott though. I think I saw probably about 30 or 45 minutes of that before at different parts on cable and dug it. By the way I’m just reminded of how whatever I saw of the first “Exorcist” didn’t phase me too much because coincidentally my apartment’s numbered 666 now 😂. I have to explain to all my friends that that was about the only apartment available for lease from the property management here at the time and I didn’t do it at all to show off or anything. Lol. Sorry to say not a lot of off the wall or weird stuff happens here. It’s just a really swanky loft I live in where I play PS4 and play my vinyl records. Maybe one day near Halloween I should turn it into an impromptu walk-through haunted house around the Halloween season for all my neighbors in my building. lol!
Saw the original as a kid and didnt get it/couldnt appreciate it? At 10 years old I wanted to see Jason or Freddy hack and gore fest. As an adult now i understand why the original is such a great film.
Same. Home alone, doors shut, windows and curtains close... I was an elementary school student, 6th grade probably. I'm always surprised with myself when i remember that i watched it at that time. Today i tend to get jumpy when something pops up on screen suddenly. I still consider The exorcist the most terrifying movie i've ever seen in my life. WONT WATCH IT AGAIN.
Saw it around the same age when my mom rented a VHS copy at my local Blockbuster back in 1999. But I had to watch it early during the day while there was still sunshine illuminating the room, and with one of my cousins who was older than me. I didn't want to watch it by myself or in dark room as that would have made things even scarier and more traumatizing for me😅. Anyway, I had nightmares for roughly a week about Regan's possession, but I was fine and in the end it became one of my favorite horror movies of all time.
Wow! Seeing Ellen Burstyn reprise her role as Chris McNeill is insanely awesome! This movie was released when I was born. I'm a big fan of the original. Can't wait to watch it!
I think I've seen the full original at some point, I've seen so many clips, I read the book, I've seen so many spin offs, etc., but just the fact that there are 2 fairly young ladies who already impressed me with their acting (and making me worry about them, for their possible nightmares), makes me want to see this movie in a theater like the good old days. When everybody screams at once, or somebody has a ridiculous laugh & someone yells out a comment, I miss that atmosphere. I haven't gone to see a movie in over 10 years
@@Sugar-hr9il wow that's crazy, I must not be a girl then since i sat down and watched this movie. what a shame a girl like me can't sit down and appreciate this movie
Whilst injecting diversity into a supposed terrifying film they simultaneously siphoned the terrifying aspect of the film itself. I don't see this film doing very well at the box office.
I was a kid when The Exorcist came out in 1973, I wasn’t allowed to see it, but everyone I knew who did was scared liked never before. There had never been anything like it, and it really freaked people out. When I was old enough to see it, I couldn’t get it out my mind for over a month. Even now at 50+ years old, I still cannot watch it, not even trailers. This trailer did not scare me, the horror of the original cannot be matched.
It scared the living day lights out of me too by just hearing about it I had nightmares, glad I wasn’t the only one! 😅 I loved watching part 3, part 2 was really pointless🙄
The Exorcist is a haunting masterpiece that explores faith, doubt, and the battle between good and evil, resonates deeply with believers in prayer and exorcism.
When the original came out it was so new, so in your face, so unsettling. Of course by today's standards some would think it's rather tame, but I still think it's the best horror ever. You had to experience it. On a trip back East a few years ago I visited Georgetown in the fall in the early evening. I walked the campus, the town and eventually made it to the outdoor staircase. Georgetown was the ideal setting.
Exorcist came out during a placid & tranquil time, a different era. Paranormal was not understood nor seen at theaters yet. It was groundbreaking. It bothers me when a desensitized Punk Millennial says, "oh the Exorcist was not scary it was funny hahahaha". Ask them, "when were you born'? More than likely they were born in the 90s or Millennials, who've been desensitized by watching garbage movies that try to scare you every 5 minutes without a deep meaningful script... we live in a different era, thats the problem. Usually anything Paranormal is unnerving to humans, not anymore.. it's been over used now, almost comical & 'Woke'
@@clightning9703 I'm a millennial (born in 85, so barely) and I grew up watching 70's, 80's and 90's horror. The Exorcist is still is still one of the scariest films ever made, and I believe the only people that would deny that are people born in the last 10-15 years.
@@AdoreYouInAshXI Exactly… I have young cousins who laugh at this movie, I am so shocked. But those of us who grew up with the Exorcist are from a different era…. Today horror fans have been desensitized to the point nothing really scares them. Had they been raised in the 70s & 80s they would be thinking the same way
The Exorcist is the one true SCARY movie. I can watch horror movies all day every day and not feel what the first one made me feel as a child and still as an adult. It is cinematic perfection. Still holds up to this very day, let alone impacting the world like it did in ‘73. I surely hope this one holds up. Exorcism movies are getting kind of tired and formulaic. I hope this one is the freshness the genre needs.
I remember watching The Exorcist for the first time as a Halloween special when I was in 6th grade. It gave me the fright so much that I couldn't go to the bathroom in my home or at school without thinking that Regan was standing behind me or at the corridor. The director's cut is even worse. Still to this day, nothing comes close.
@@darrenromano617 I agree. This movie traumatized me. Not one movie since then has even come close to bothering me. I remember I had finally gotten over my traumatization of this movie as a child. I don’t understand the reviews and the critiques. I just watched this movie and thought it was an amazing sequel. They kept the essence of the first movie, especially at the beginning with the loud noises and the surrounding sounds in each scene during the buildup of the characters (not sure how to explain it, but you could feel the vibe of the first movie). The references to the first movie were spot on. The message behind is one of unity, that together humanity n love will prevail. The twists were surprising. The “i Chose You” moment was chilling😱! Really one of the best horror movies i’ve seen. I give it a 10/10. Honestly, it makes me wanna go back to Church on Sundays 😅
Can we all just acknowledge how incredible Ellen Burstyn looks here at 90 YEARS OLD! She is a living Hollywood Legend. Would never put her at 90 if I didn't know.
I saw this trailer in the theater last night. At first I thought it looked super bad, as the trailer went on I found myself sinking farther into my seat. Excited to see this!
I’ve watched the film with eleven years old, and get traumatized… with seventeen I’ve decided to face the trauma and read the book to try to understand the root of the evil… there’s no explanation and no root it’s just evil. actually, at the half of the trailer, I’ve started to have the same uncanny feeling of loneliness, vulnerability and raw fear that it was gave to me when I was 17 and read this damn book… there’s no doubt the inspiration of this piece of work is maleficent. If I’m gonna watch it? Hell yeah… God never gave the spirit of fear. But courage, love and temperance
@@Amp661 Everything about this new one looks forced and phony. There's no way to depict the antagonistic force as believably and with the same level of down-to-earth intelligence as in the original. This film looks to be worse than "Dark Fate."
To experience what? Back then, at the end of the movie we all were like "Jesus Christ, the strenght and Faith of the father was colossal!". What would depressed and drug addicted liberal socialists kids filled with nothing but hate say now? "I want to see more nihilistic demonic possesion at pedophlix"? You liberal socialists kids need us to speak.
No I don’t think it’ll be better than the original, but I’m not going into expecting something better. I just hope it’s a good, well made possession horror. The trailer looks promising and those two girls seem like they are gonna give amazing performances. Which is something that made the original so iconic, the performance of the young girl Linda Blair.
It was an average movie. I started to shut it off about 20 minutes in because everything was dragging. The actual possession takes place later on but by that time I was bored but decided to watch it anyway because it is part of the Exorcist franchise. Overall from 1-10 with 10 being the best, I give it a 5.
Also funny
No it isn't
Jumps scares has nothing to do with horror, in fact that stupid resource is used by stupid films, i hope you are being sarcastic or you are just 10yr
Yea I agree
I wish that I was able to experience the same thing audiences experienced when the original first came out. It literally scared people into church, people were fainting in movie theaters.
The original is truly the best horror movie ever made
It's been said women were so scared they miscarried

As a kid, I was badly damaged psychologically for weeks after I watched some scenes of the exorcist. We weren’t allowed to watch the movie but of course my curiosity guided me to disobey my mother and I ended up paying the ultimate price for it. I was so scared, I couldn’t sleep for several days

i don’t think people realize what made the original movie so scary was the lack of media like it at the time. people had never seen something like that presented on screen, leading to a huge cultural impact, that today we just don’t find shocking.
Exactly
The scene where Sharon brings Father Karras into Regan's bedroom to examine the bumps on her abdomen was terrifying. I kept thinking that Regan/Demon was going to wake up, break her straps, and kill both of them. I'm not that brave. I'm not walking into any dark room where there's a demon-possessed person. Father Karras should have told Sharon to wait until the following afternoon when there's plenty of daylight. 😆
Plus now they've gotta cram a bunch of woke ideology into it, further digression from the storyline 😮💨
@@Scorch1028yeah that was a creepy scene wasn't it 😂
@@ChrisBarnesGoesEEEEEElol😂
The Exorcist is still and will always be the best movie. Just watched The Believer doesn't even come close. Glad to see Chris and Regan through.
Yea because back then everything was fresh and new. Otherwise this one is much much better by far
As a child I was terrified! Around 18 y/o I got over it! This movie was ok but like U the best part for me was seeing Regan and Chris at the end!!! I screamed Reagan!!!!😅
RIP William Friedkin, the legendary director of The Exorcist, single-handedly the most iconic and terrifying film ever made.
Amen
🥲
Amen. He would be proud to know he directed the scariest movie ever.
Hopefully he passed before seeing this trailer.
I couldn't agree more with everything you said.
Exactly, and also the original had a cursed feeling about it. The deaths of actors, a literal serial killer being in it, freak accidents happening on set. It was just little weird things like that which made the movie what it was and that’s something that can’t be replicated or topped.
So true
I thought the original exorcist was supposed to be a comedy 😂
Yup. It’s the same reason why the original Texas chainsaw massacre was so good too. This movie will probably be watchable but it’s going to disappoint.
The original will always and forever remain the scariest movie of all times, not only did it feel real, the sets and the things the production team did to make it feel real is INSANE, like the swing camera from the stairs going up, the cold room to get the effect form their mouths, and the make up, etc. etc.
And don’t forget all the real life things that went wrong on the set including a person from the production crew dying.
I didn't find it scary, personally, but it was miles above the bastardization of "The Shining" that Kuprick shat out.
+ the mechanical folding table that shot Linda Blair into a sitting position and back down again over and over.
They probably will never recreate anything like the original. The reason may never be known, but, I think it has to do with the real unfortunate things that happened off camera. I think they may have delved to deep into making it as real as possible, and possibly it manifested into reality in certain ways.
Don’t forget the face they would subliminally show for a milisecond

Unfortunately it won't be as good as the original because it doesn't have the element of surprise. People went to the original and had no idea what they were about to see and it scared the crap out of them. Now people are desensitized due to everything that has came after. Exorcist and movies like Alien and John Carpenter's The Thing and Halloween etc... blazed the trail that everyone has since copied. The trailer give me a vibe that it's going to be just another copy that's trying too hard to equal or better the original. I'll see it and try to temper my expectations.
I don’t think they thought it would of ever been better than the original.. but it could still be worth watching all three to come
The original came out at a time when nobody saw anything like it.

Yes. that right.
There will never be another film quite like The Exorcist, but this looks like a promising sequel.

@@bronson1392its all about taste i think ... I tought The Exorcist III is a little boring ... I dont say its bad, but its not that good either
@@EdjeMr1975 Only the third act. Executives wanted to "punch" it up with that ridiculous final exorcism. It's a chilling, effective movie otherwise.

Its spelled P-I-Z-Z-A, not Pazuzu. And make mine with pepperoni! 🍕

Ha, awesome anecdote
I was 6 when I saw it
OMG DID WE LIVE THE SAME LIFE. My dad and I were horror fanatics and my mom said she didn’t care what I watched but to not being the exorcist in the house so I didn’t. I’m 21 years old now and still haven’t but this movie it’s lowkey encouraging me to 😂
And what happened?
Then what? Was it as bad as it was touted to be?
I know exactly what you mean, Blatty and Friedkin were masters for this.... Let's see if this film has the same magic
E3 is an underrated masterpiece! Like you said. an extremely unsettling well written movie
A única obra prima que eu conheço é o primeiro
Absolutely Exorcist 3 is a perfect closure to the original film. It's a shame that Exorcist 2 however is the worst hunk of shit I've ever seen.
A very well written and intelligent summary, but it’d be much easier to say that this thing is utter shit.

She went to the cinema to watch it when 8?? BS
My father saw it when he was 6 years old! He was beyond scared!

What I love about this movie is Chris MacNiel's determination to help other girls that went through the same hell as her daughter Regan.
She was powerless and useless fighting with the demon, do we all remember that Karras sacrificed his life ??
which is so unrealistic, especially at her age.
Umm it’s not unrealistic a mother who went though what Chris daughter did she wouldn’t wanna see it happen to anyone else she ain’t even as old as Father Time from the original who died trying to give the exorcism

The original and the third installment, yes. This looks like a cash grab, no substance, dumpster fire.
Out of all the Exorcist films we've had, this might be better than those knockoff films that have the Exorcist name
Certainly won’t be better than The Exorcist 3. That film is a masterpiece.

I got so bored during this movie that I started searching for a real horror film while watching it. Fortunately, I made the right decision and didn't even finish this one. Instead, I switched to watching "As Above, So Below," which still gives me chills.
1:47 The best 10 seconds ever
Can't wait to watch it!
but girls dont watch the exorcist tho
@jasonr9678You are watching the wrong trailers and make yourself sound like a clown 🤡. This movie is all about redemption and connecting with God.
This looks like an insult to the original like Halloween Ends was an insult to Michael Myers.
Whilst injecting diversity into a supposed terrifying film they simultaneously siphoned the terrifying aspect of the film itself. I don't see this film doing very well at the box office.
It made 4X its budget so it did good but I'm sure they wanted a least $200 million.
100% agreed. The original stuck with you even when the movie's over. Even to this day after watching it i usually have to sleep with the lights on 😂
Even in 90s there wasn't anything like it and it did the same thing to my childhood 😆
It scared the living day lights out of me too by just hearing about it I had nightmares, glad I wasn’t the only one! 😅 I loved watching part 3, part 2 was really pointless🙄

This is the best Exorcist sequel, yes people it is far better than the boring Exorcist 3
This was a stupid woke movie

Yeah, that was a seriously nice touch!

RIP William Friedkin. Your original masterpiece will never ever be surpassed. The very essence of true filmmaking on the edge of what was possible.
To the people who thought that this movie is going to be good after watching this trailer... WTF DID YOU SEE IN THIS TRAILER?!?!
Ikr this looks so corny and goofy
This will be great for a new generation to experience even a fraction of what the first movie did to audiences. I’m excited.
Why not just make the new generation watch the old movie? It will hit harder than this one.
@@Amp661 Everything about this new one looks forced and phony. There's no way to depict the antagonistic force as believably and with the same level of down-to-earth intelligence as in the original. This film looks to be worse than "Dark Fate."

It won’t be as good as the original but at least we can expect a good horror movie that can match with the original just for this modern times
It was an average movie. I started to shut it off about 20 minutes in because everything was dragging. The actual possession takes place later on but by that time I was bored but decided to watch it anyway because it is part of the Exorcist franchise.
