    Its also a good idea to remove the engine oil fill cap before draining the oil to prevent pulling a vacuum.

    Great video. Love the added warnings regarding the jack stand safety. Can't be stated enough.

    I know it’s a pretty simple thing to change oil, but I’ve never done it on my Corvette. I appreciate the time and effort you took to make this procedure so clear.

    I started using my phone to log all of the maintenance I do on our cars. I now have the Vette, Silverado truck, suburban, MIata, and 2 Honda Accords (College daughter's cars) I love it because I know I always have my phone and I never have to worry about losing that data. Brakes, oil changes, coolant... anything I do, I log it.

    Also I always warm up the engine oil before draining it, It will drain faster plus empty out more oil!

    Just about to do my oil change on a 2008 Vette. I just use wood ramps like you have (mine are a little taller) with no need to bother with jacks and jack stands. Only use a jack if wheels need to come off.

    Lionel here in central California. Basic and to the point, I like that. I have the same wooden ramps, nice. The only things I do different is that I etch the mileage and date on the oil filter just for gp. But the main thing I do is I load the oil filter with oil before installing it. Just saying...

    I just purchased one. I was told it needs to be level to the ground to properly change the oil. Unless thats only for the transmission.

    • @maintainersgarage
      @maintainersgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The oil drain plug is at the back of the pan so having a slight angle towards the drain plug is ok. Having the car level to check the oil level after you added oil is correct

  • @user-fp1ce1ut7m

    The way you doing the oil change you are leaving old oil in the pan. The position of the drain plug is above the oil in the back of the pan. Other than that a very good video.

    • @menotyou5380

      I have a set of lifting pucks specifically made for lifting Corvettes. The hockey pucks seems to be very similar in size, shape and composition.
      So, I think the hockey puck seems like a neat idea...
      Creativity is nice!

  • @lakrfan4980
    @lakrfan4980 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They make hockey pucks specifically made for a Corvette that are more secure than the ones you are using, no eye bolt needed.

    • @maintainersgarage
      @maintainersgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      More secure? I have been using these pucks since 2012 and they have not slipped off or failed. So hard for me to say these are not secure

    • @lakrfan4980
      @lakrfan4980 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not saying yours don't work, what I'm saying is they make Corvette pucks that have a slightly better design than yours.

    Did you remove the front passenger wheel to get access to the drain plug and filter?

  • @antiqueguy6397

    I recently bought a 2008 Vette. Whats with people jacking one side of the car up higher to get more old oil out? Something to do with the drain plug being on the side of the oil pan? Thanks

    • @maintainersgarage
      @maintainersgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The drain plug is on driver's side, but i can't imagine getting enough old oil out by having the passenger side higher to justify the effort.

    • @maintainersgarage
      @maintainersgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And if you want to get more old oil out, just add 1/4 quart of oil with the drain plug removed and that will push more old oil out with zero extra effort

    Oil looks thick, is the engine cold? Oil should be warm.
    You should fill the new filter with new oil before installing it.
    Wear gloves, ditch the watch.
    Always remove the filter first. It may not want to come off.
    Mobil1 filters are more restrictive than GM OE filters. I use a PF48E on my 2010.
    Not that it matters but torque is measured in Lb-Ft not Ft-Lbs.
