I'm sitting at work and crying to this song. I sure miss my grandmas and grandpas.

Doing almost 10 year in prison i was lucky enough to get out and spend 10 month and see my mom before she died unexpectedly from a sudden heart attack and died i did almost 10 year in prison she was outside waiting to see me then i get out and spend not even a year with her she suddenly died

as a hmong meka, this song perplexed me. i lost my dad about a month ago and the pain and sorrow there isn’t from positive memories but knowing that he lived a life from the old ways in America. we just had his funeral but this song has always hit me knowing my mom is nearing the end of her chapter as well. her stroke from 20 years ago has limited how much i’ll ever know her but this song brings it home to know that losing her will be equally as hard when i lost my sister in my childhood with years of trauma. songs like this hit harder to me than most american songs about losing a loved one knowing we have ties to the refugee life and the struggle our parents went through to survive as america wasn’t their choice after the Laos civil war. so many of the OG’s long for the motherland and more so long for the farming lifestyles.
