    Thank you Two Toes for your great video. I commented on your 2nd day Sniping video about tweezers, but I highly recommend the 12" stainless tweezers on ebay for $5.68, and the 18" for $12.16. These are straight tweezers and do not have the finger holes, much better I think for your application. But maybe you do have them. Good luck mining, and thanks again. Your videos are really great entertainment.

    I remember first starting off dredging in Cali. and carefully plucking nuggets from cracks with mainly needle nose pliers and custom ss steel crevice tools. But after doing a hundred of so it's like , suck'em all up and keep moving on. Except the big ones, they often can't be sucked up easily especially if they're pounded in a crack or narrow depression. Pretty funny how a 6-8" cobbles get sucked up easily but certain shaped or wt. nugget will just sit there.

    Awesome job
    I am so looking forward to along some of our rivers and creeks this summer.
    I bought a Garret AT Gold and have spent about 3-4 hundred hrs on it now and think it's time to find out if it's any good. I'm in BC along the lower Fraser River and for the most part all we get is very fine flour gold, although on occasion a nice little nugget shows up. (very rare)
    Looking forward to lots more videos till then.

    fantastic video Gary you are truly a genuine Westerner what modesty and Grace the expert that you are with such knowledge an uncanny intuition from years of experience then I was amazed to see that you are also a fisherman wow. I love the Yuba River since 1974 and like you have just a high school education after 25 seasons of Hillside brush clearing in Oakland and 7 years of commercial crab and salmon fishing and 13 years of construction I want to teach my son and his friends prospecting so I visited him yesterday on his 12th birthday he loves his computer and will not ride the bicycles I gave him or work on any projects in his nice landlords garage where he and his mom live so I declared to them that I would go to putah Creek and find gold near his house apricot draw actually off of 128 I used all of the knowledge that you taught me and some improvised crevice tools and I actually found one real flake and 12 specs that I took back to his house and set up a table bus tub and pan and panned out a bucket full of concentrates to produce this tiny little victory thank you very much for everything you taught me and the family was very impressed. I am going back up to the Yuba River and I know all of the trails and spots and legal requirements I am considering buying a metal detector and I thought to buy the Garrett pi deepseeker but now I see that avlf machine with sniper coil seems to be more relevant in the river do you have any advice on this matter sir? I also plan on scanning old load mine wagon roads and tailing piles on public lands and benches and old mining camps thank you so much for all of the valuable bits of knowledge you have imparted I will try and order some items from you your mining Supply site and after a few more clearing jobs I will have the money because I do not plan on swinging the weed wacker for the rest of my life I have come to realize but after 44 years of hard labor I still have a chance by God's grace and I feel lucky that I am not permanently crippled after what I put myself through you make it look so easy and I know that an hour hike down into the canyon and an hour-and-a-half hike out is something that most young men would think from the effort but I love the hot weather and rugged mountains I like the fact that you show consciousness in your impact on the environment also and show a great example to others to cover up their holes pack out their garbage and tread lightly the underwater footage is fantastic the way the Sunbeam illuminates the crevice and I can actually see the gold nuggets. and the helicopter Expedition definitely set you ahead and for most of the multitude of other videos.

    • @TwoToes
      @TwoToes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are way too kind! I believe in getting the best detector for the job. I have 4 different detectors. I have found, for what I do, that is the minimum I can get away with. I would suggest, you get the detector that is the best for what you want to do the most. I have a detector that is the best for coin hunting, it has a prospecting mode and the manufacture says it's good for prospecting, but it is useless for prospecting! It runs at 6 kHz, I think 19 kHz is as low as you can go and find the small nuggets. It is unable to handle the high mineralization that is associated with finding gold.The internet is great for researching detectors. Listen to the miners not the dealers. Thank you very much and good luck!

    I don't have a gold (VLF?) metal detector, so I have to stick to doing it the old fashioned way... but I sure love to watch you fan the gravel and see those pieces of gold show up. The gold around here is so fine I don't think a gold detector would hit on it anyway. I am gonna shoot some video of the gorge I like to pan during runoff so that I can look back at low water and have a better idea where to concentrate.

    Another awesome video! It's funny, the areas you are working look really rugged, which I assume most people don't want to get into. I've spent countless hours marking out such sites on Google Earth. One question: in your experience, do some of the good looking spots at higher elevation still contain gold, or do you have to be down river a ways for the gold to start accumulating more?

    • @TwoToes
      @TwoToes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I enjoy the higher elevations, I look for good gold producing areas, then try to get as close to the source as I can. To find areas that haven't been worked to much, you have to be willing to do a lot of hiking. Thanks for the support

    Thx for sharing your life's passion with the rest of us. Being new to this endeavor and collecting information makes the process that much more enjoyable. One question though. Are the areas that you snipe or crevice claimed or open to the public? I am in southern Wa so no worries of me jumping a claim. lol

      A lot of the places I go, are way back in on public land. I have found, when the hike is tough the gold is better and there are few to no claims. I have a couple of claims that are closer to home. I also prospect on a couple of claims that belong to friends. Thanks for the support.

    great stuff what a awesome creek so much bedrock and the gold is amazing .was this area not dug over in the early days by prospectors? As to why the river is so rich.here in New Zealand I live near the gold fields and it was dug sluiced water cannon bucket dredged by the Chinese in the 1900s and I haven't found gold like that before. thanks for sharing

    • @TwoToes
      @TwoToes  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      All the rivers were worked by the early miners in California. They have been worked by the Chinese in the 1880's then again in the 1930's by people out of work trying to make a living. This river has a lot of boulders the size of a house. They were unable to move them so they worked around them. Over the years, flood water has moved some of them and this releases the gold that was trapped under them. Every now and then if your lucky, you will come across a spot they missed. Thanks for the support!

    As Always a excellent video. I would like to know what kind of boots you are wearing on the river. I need a good slip proof boot if there is such a thing. lol .

    • @TwoToes
      @TwoToes  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wear regular neoprene semi hard sole boots. They do fairly well on slipping, but offer little or no protection for your toes when you do slip. The best thing to use, if your going to the same spot every time, is a old pair of slip resistant leather work boots. I get them at the flea market for a couple of bucks. If you use leather boots, you have to leave them in the water. If they dry out, you will never get your feet in them again. Thanks - Gary

    Hey Gary, love the videos! Just got a GoldBug Pro very excited to get out there in June after this monster Winter.
    So, I'm actually cycling highway 49 this Summer. Some back roads here and there, but right through Gold Country. Any books or websites you could recommend? I'm having trouble on the research. Really hoping claims are properly marked like you mentioned in an earlier video.

      James Klien put out a book - Where to find gold in Northern California. It was printed in the late 90's or early 2000's. It is very basic, but covers the main spots. There are some of the public sites listed here www.goldfeverprospecting.com/cagolopapr.htmlAs far as claims go - it is the reasonability of the claimant to mark his claim. I have found that most miners the are picky about there claims, have them marked. Thanks - Gary

    Great video as always. Can't wait end of winter to do the same in my local river. By the way is metal detector necessary? From my experience it react to anything and rivers are full of lead here in Ireland. Thanks

    • @TwoToes
      @TwoToes  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Finding lead is not a bad thing when looking for gold - they travel together. Thank - Gary

      You right Sir but from my experience when I scoop from behind boulder and find in one pan almost 1 ounce of lead usually no gold present at all. Best results I got form packed crack in bedrock and there I found just rarely lead. Maybe becouse it was filled before 'lead' age :)

    Hi Gary - well, I've learned that I should NOT watch your videos before going to bed, because they get me so eager to go prospecting that I can't sleep! But I have a question for you regarding masks. My distance vision is great, but anything closer than arm's length, and things start getting a little fuzzy. I've seen some masks that you can get with semi-customized bi-focal lenses built in; do you know of a manufacturer that you would recommend for that? Doesn't seem like you need to use those yourself. Thanks again for sacrificing your prospecting time so that you can make videos!!!

    • @TwoToes
      @TwoToes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its hard when talking about detectors. It takes a long time to learn all the in and outs of a new detector. Once I have a detector that I know how to run and have been finding gold with it, its very hard to put it down and try another one. I am still using my Goldmaster 3, it has to be 15 years old. All I can suggest is, stay with a brand that is known for finding gold, and get it from a local shop that can teach you how to run it. Then learn every thing you can about it! To many people get the detector to where they can run it, then quit learning. I am always trying different settings, different adjustments. The more you know the detector the more gold you will find. Thanks for the support!
