    Thank you so much! All it took was one setting change and it's fixed! I'm so grateful! Such a relief to have stumbled upon your video after so much searching and researching. I tried so many different settings changes from other tutorials, but none fixed my choppy playback of my VLC screen recordings, except yours! Thank you!

    Thank you for your recommendations and it did make sense. I'm trying to view 4K video produced by my drone on a 3440 x 1440 monitor. I have a Dell Optiplex 780 with a GTX 1050 Ti GPU. The PC is over 10 years old with a Core 2 Quad CPU so I realize that I'm pushing the limits even with the NVIDIA card. The drone video hesitates when the drone is doing a Yaw maneuver or flying sideways. Both of these maneuvers are not very cine like and should be avoided but the hesitation just makes them look even worse. In addition to VLC, I've tried 5Kviewer and KMPlayer with almost identical results. What DOES work is Windows Media Player where the playout is flawless. I wish I had tried it first! What I may be of interest is that Windows Media Player uses about 5% CPU and around 20% GPU. All the others use about 12% CPU and 20% GPU. Also, Windows Media Player can play 8K video with significant lag and the others can't play it at all. The Optiplex 780's most significate limitation (other then the CPU) is bus speed.

      Video is usually a nightmare, even if you have a super-modern machine. It's the same for rendering video. The software you use, the VERSION of that editing software, and drivers all mix together such that 1 puter will render a 60-min vid in 2 hours, and another will do it (same quality) in 6 minutes. That's for FullHD... Switch to 4K or 8K, and all bets are off!

    • @ScottiesTech
      @ScottiesTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A 720p vid?! That's gotta be a driver issue or something... Even an "ancient" puter should be able to play 720p vids with only the CPU...

      @@ScottiesTech You would think but I have the latest driver from Nvidia and have no conflicts. I can even play War Thunder in movie mode with no problems. HDR and SVP smooth playback are both disabled by this. I have a mid to high end PC but HDR videos are too dark. If I try to adjust the brightness inside VLC, while having smooth playback with the external program SVP enabled, then I get a lot of skipped frames, even though I don't max out CPU or GPU usage. I can disable SVP or disable the image adjustments inside VLC and in both cases it runs fine, but when both are active, it's choppy.

    If anyone here isn't a VLC fanboy and would like to use something that's more powerful and also open source like VLC, just use Smplayer.
    Smplayer is the best player out there period. It can easily handle 4k video and it doesn't have frame drops is very customizable. Its very user friendly and gives little explanations for everything when you put your mouse over a setting. Its free and open source just like VLC and is available for both Windows and Linux, and uses the free and open source Mplayer engine, the best most powerful media player engine out there. If you get frame freezing in smplayer, its not that the player isnt working right, its because your computer is running out of ram and its your computer that is the problem, not smplayer.
    Smplayer can handle anything you throw at it as long as your computer can also handle it. Ive played 100 gigabyte, uncompressed audio and video 4k movie files through smplayer and I've had no issues. Its actually because of this problem in VLC that I started looking for something else. VLC would have very bad frame drops, color distortion, and just couldn't handle what I wanted it to do. I've however never once had a problem with smplayer before and I've been using it nearly every day for 3 years (I've seen almost 2000 movies now lol.) on a mid-range computer and it's something that I truly cherish because of how amazing it is.
    Its default look isn't that great, it comes in like a legacy looking interface, but you can change all that with different settings and skins you can download and install. So there's not much I can list as cons for smplayer, it really is the best in my opinion.

      ... I only run linux (private/home), and use VLC from the start (know some of the developers ... same guy that 'helped' build Blender.) Never had any issues with VLC but I must admit always 'tuned' settings by default (incl. eventual Win. register). You are very convincing ... might even give this one a try, just for the heck of it. Thanks in advance for the fun I'll be having... 😁
