I sort of want to get a second hotbin and run and experiment one summer - just paper, woodchips and grass. The grass will probably "choke" the air anyway.
Hi James, I did try this as an experiment (grass only in the HB). It did not go so well for me as you struggle with temperature, and I feel you would probably get better results in a cold compost bin. No harm in trying though if you do get a second.
Nice to hear from you! That's a good idea for bulking agent, hope your hotbin I'd still running well, as you know it's been cold in Surrey, ours is in the middle of the green. Maybe we are neighbours! 😁
Maybe! Yes cold here and mine was in the middle of the green last couple of days. I’m going to add a bit of grass over the weekend and prob take a bit from the base as should be ready soon.
In my experience this will definitely help keeping the temperature up. Unless it's really warm outside I find that hotbin doesn't go super hot if it's full or hasn't been emptied for a while. Please keep us informed how it's going! It's just after 7am and I'm going to check mine! Happy composing!
Right on to composting tips another of your videos it’s raining so having a rest from the garden usually out there all the time but stressing about the composter not put one thing in it yet , want to be totally sure before I get going will have trouble keeping it warm where I live but be interesting trying spent two hours cutting paper up last night what a job want a shredder sooner rather than later might give the hint for birthday present in advance keep composting bye Jean
Following your videos I've set mine up again. And within a week I'm at 45 degrees. And that is with hardly any effort. I think the thing you do well is the mixing. I wasn't doing that seriously like you do. So that is the difference I think
Hi Ken, that's really great to hear that the videos are helping you, if you keep adding enough waste, bulking agent and paper or cardboard then I think you should be reaching 60+ in the next week or so. Let us know how it's going.
Hi. I think 🤔 we should call you the stirrer. That's what you seem to be doing a lot of the time. I"sort of"have a lot of grass cutting, so to stop it clogging to gether I have been mixing shredded mozzarella, oops sorry for that, paper and card with it. But I don't know if it will work. Say hi to the boss lady for me, . Best wishes Geoff
Hi! You need to stop putting mozzarella in it and start watching Beanie Chef - use it for cooking 🤣🤣🤣 Hi from the "little boss", love your comment "sort of" "stirrer "🤣👍
"1973 hide and seek champion" was the first composting joke I've ever heard.
🤣 I'm glad it made you laugh.
The best hot bin videos on line 👍
Thank you! That's nice to hear, people like you keep us motivated to make more 😊

I’ve spent the last hour chopping up last year’s raspberry canes really small for bulking agent 🙈. Interesting you are in Surrey. Me too!

We have faith in you, carry on watching and you'll be fine, good idea about hit for a shredder. You definitely need it as it needs loads of paper.
