Glad you covered the difference in the pads thickness. Other videos did not address this. I would likely have missed that and would be scratching my head.
I have the same mower and brakes just wouldn't work at all. I took it all apart and the assembly looks just like yours. On other models I see there's a brake lever return spring and I thought mine was missing but I see yours doesn't have one either, and there's none in the schematic you show. Glad I found this video because I was about to order a spring but looks like I don't need it! Thank you very much for this video
HELLO i have a 42 gear ARIENS ..replced brake pucks and clutch cable..why is it JERKING HARD WHEN SHIFTING IN ALL GEARS ??? could i have the brakes too tight? I didnt put the NEW DRIVE BELT ON YET..?????? GREAT VIDEOs.
Well I got my brake pads in and I measured the brake pads with my calipers and they were just a hair over your 8.75 mm measurement, I decided to try to put them on without grinding them down anymore, ended up busting my cast aliminum brake jaw, break yoke, caliper whatever you call it while I was tightening it up. So now the search begins for a replacement part. If Anybody else does this make sure you grind your pads down to where they fit correctly!!
It's so amazing when you run with bad brakes for a long time and finally get them working. So much more enjoyable to mow when you don't have to worry about crashing
On my Craftsman LT 2000 I can't get the brake rotor to come off to replace that brake pad / puck that fits in there...the shaft is splined and the rotor is free but it won't pull off...i have cleaned the little bit of shaft thats exposed and whatever else I can do and it's still the same...I have looked for any kind of retainer clip etc and nothing... The brake pads / pucks I got have this same number so it must be quite common.
@@Wadejm533 yes this is a full replacement of the brake material. If you aren't missing any parts you will have full brakes when you are done. Thank you so much for the comment. 👍
Do you mean both brake pucks or pads? There is an inner and an outer and it's probably best to replace them both if they are worn out, It would be good to go through all of the parts and clean the caliper up and clean the pins like I do in the video, just in case everything being seized in place is part of your issue.

@@tonycooper3616 So glad I was able to save you some headaches 👍👍

So glad I was able to help you. It's so nice when you finally get working brakes, it makes mowing so much less stressful and more enjoyable.
Nice demonstration of the scotchbrite technique. Using the drill is a great idea
That is how I clean the holes on brake calipers, makes brake jobs so much easier.
Thanks for adding Digram, I forgot to take picture of how assembled-
So glad I could help 👍👍👍
Nice video Pat and good job on the pad modifications. 👍
I had it out up and down the hill last night and it will lock the wheels on the asphalt up no problem. Well worth the work.
Good deal brother
Thanks So Much....love the Video & Diagram.... ( it's like a 1 shot IKEA Project ). Thanks !!
When you got a plan it seems easy lol thanks man for the video
Great instructor
Thanks. Very good video

What a bummer! Hope you can come up with a replacement part.
@@patthesoundguy well until then I'll just keep breaking with what I have done the past two years, downshifting into a low gear 😁
@@dinkbuster1 I did that for quite a while with mine too.
I am working on the same machine but a Sears Craftsman 15.5 horse 42 inch gut. brakes.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make a comment, I appreciate it so much 🙂
I am pretty sure my little 130 didn't have brakes... I hate to admit it but I never thought about it.
The Hydrostatic riders have brakes I think but they aren't as crucial as they are on a gear drive. The Hydrostatic is like a brake for the most part.
@@patthesoundguy that's how I viewed it, the transmission is also the brake., or contains it anyway
Do John Deere's have similar setup
That's a great question... I haven't looked at many John Deere brake setups. Ill look at some of the parts diagrams and see what pops up.
@@patthesoundguy I was just curious cuz I just bought one yesterday and I didn't have time to look yet
Will this help your brakes stop? My brakes want stop when I step on it.

@@patthesoundguy will I have to do both sides?

@patthesoundguy no. I mean both back tires, do they brakes.
@Wadejm533 there is only one brake on the side of the trans axle that works both wheels.
Main thing is to antiz the bolts and pins 😊 please
I use high temp silicone brake grease on the pins, antiseize doesn't work on moving parts they gum up.
STupid Side Bar comments! Nice job.
Should put never zee
Wicked good :-)
