THE HELDEN PROJECT: FINALLY FINISHED & RELEASED AFTER 40 YEARS
The Helden Project started in 1983. Synthesizer genius Hans Zimmer, Ultravox percussionist Warren Cann wrote the music and talented scenario writer and producer of music, video and film projects Hugo Vereker wrote all the intriguing lyrics about spies, assassins on their way, tension between East and West, betrayal, a mysterious woman, called Eva, etc. Singer Zaine Griff did lead vocals in almost all of the non-instrumental songs.
Only one single (Holding On) of the original Helden recordings was released and the album was shelved for decades. Throughout the years fans kept asking about The Helden Project and Zaine Griff put a new Helden team together some years ago, using highly skilled musicians and singers. He used Warren Cann's original percussion arrangements, the original song arrangements of Hans Zimmer - who is the world's most known film music composer now - and used original Eighties synth equipment to stay close to the original sound.
Recorded in high quality studios this resulted in a magnificent album: THE HELDEN PROJECT // SPIES - finally released after 40 years! Sony Japan released the CD. (which can best be ordered via CDJapan, best price) And digitally the album can be obtained from all major platforms worldwide! Also in Hi-Res audio resolution.
In many reviews the album got very positive reactions and on numerous radio channels for electronic music songs of the album are played. Zaine Griff was also interviewed on the radio program of Martyn Ware (of Heaven 17, Human League) and many songs of the album were played.
Zaine Griff previously worked with many other artists, like The Human Instinct, The Kinks, Manfred Mann, David Bowie, Hans Zimmer, Warren Cann, Midge Ure, Kate Bush, Gary Numan and Yukihiro Takahashi of YMO.
Hans Zimmer and Warren Cann were in Zaine Griff's band between 1979 and 1983. Zaine recorded three albums with Hans Zimmer: his two first solo-albums ASHES AND DIAMONDS and FIGURES and the original recordings for THE HELDEN PROJECT // SPIES album, which were shelved. Warren Cann, Kate Bush and Yukihiro Takahashi all also coöperated on Zaine Griff’s album FIGURES.
