The best 3 tips we got from our cruise operators: 1. The drinking water fountains - fill your bottles from these street fountains - no need to keep paying for bottled water. 2. Tickets for the Colosseum are also valid for the Forum and the Palatine Hill and visa versa - the queues for either of these places tend to be much shorter than at the Colosseum so buy your tickets at either place and walk straight past the queues at the Colosseum. 3. If you are travelling with children under 14 - entry to the Forum etc is half price providing you can prove their age - take their passport and ask for the cheaper tickets - don't ask, don't get! These 3 tips saved us many Euros and a stack of time as we didn't have to queue at all for the Colosseum - really important if you have limited time in this city.
Just returned from a week in Rome. Your vids proved invaluable. Many thanks. All your points were spot on. We wouldn't have had such a nice trip without your vids. We noticed that the better we dressed the less hassle we received from street venders. Possibly unsure if we were tourists or locals. just wanted to say thanks! Next trip...Israel.
just a little tip from a Roman follower: there's a local train from Fiumicino Airport to Tuscolana station (which is located in the south-eastern part of Rome, just 2 metro stops from San Giovanni). That's a lot cheaper than the 13 euros Leonardo Express (it costs 8 euros per person per trip) and the journey takes just a few more minutes.
Excellent advice! I lived in Rome for 27 years. Each time I go back to Rome on holiday, I take the train to Tuscolana and then take the underground at Ponte Lungo.
I absolutely love your videos! I studied abroad in Italy and London this summer and watched a ton of your videos to make sure I was prepared and I love how you really just get straight to the point and explain things, it makes it so much easier to explain!
Meredith B hello Meredith, I'm coming to Rome to study this September too! Can you help me know mire about how to get from the airplane to my accommodation? Is it best to go by taxi or else? Many thanks!
We are just spending our last day in Rome & we prepared for our 7 day vacation here by watching all your videos & have had the BEST time!!! Your advice was completely spot on. Thank you!♥️
Anytime I have a trip booked i always look up videos for tips and helpful information regarding the place....every single time I end up seeing your videos for that place (Cancun, Rome etc) so thank you for all the help! You’re a wealth of worldwide knowledge!
I am watching this myself and it says "No views" but there is 1 like and already a comment... I feel that TH-cam may be a little tricky with their numbers :) Big Roman Hug to You All!!
You are my kind of man. Talkative and able to speak non-stop and "you don't slip in the pocket for a word," as in Azerbaijani saying. But your speech is not tiring. Excellent tips for tourists. And thank you for warning about pick-pockets :DD
Great video, Rome was my first trip anywhere from Ohio when I was 31. I love Rome. My favorite sites were the the scavi tour under the Vatican, the colosseum, and the Borghese Gallery. Your videos are spot on with all the info we may need. Thank you
We were there for 1 full day and we highly recommend the Segway tour. We would have never been able to see all that we saw in 2 days. 4 hour tour was like 70 US prepaid and our tour guide Roger was amazing!
I love Rome! And would love to go back. The history, the food, the fashion! ❤️ but... if I had to choose my favorite Italian city, it would have to be Florence. ❤️❤️ something about that city that just calls me. All of Italy is amazing and you can’t go wrong with any place to visit. The people are amazing and I just love the history. Pompeii was another amazing visit that I feel I need to do again cause after walking around for 8 hours there, I still didn’t see it all.
I LOVED Rome and Vatican City. I can't wait to go back. I did a pilgrimage tour but next I want to do a Foodie tour. The pilgrimage tour included hotel food that catered to the Americani and not representative of authentic Italian food. Florence and Assisi had the greatest examples of Italian hotel food. Thanks, Mark for all your great travel tips and advice.
Perfect timing on this video! It looks like a lot of us will be going to Rome soon. I'm headed there in a week, so I have been rewatching all of your Italy videos to prepare.
Thank you Wolters! Rome is truly captivating.❤️Everywhere you look is bursting with history and beauty. We visited the city during Spring as part of our DIY EUROTRIP video. The entire city is rich with art, sculpture and architecture. 🤩🤩🤩 Its like walking inside a huge museum. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Wolther, Rome is very greatest city in heart, and most most beautiful in the world, not other city comparison with Rome. Thank you dear friend.
I'm sure I've watched more than two videos from you. And I'm sure ucd watched said videos over and over. But the last two I watched, really came handy. I just spent 7 days in Marrakesh and now I'm in Rome! Thank you for your informative videos. I like how you record them while on sight.
Thanks Mark. I visited Roma for the first time last December, a great time to be there. The Vatican was still crowded but easier to get in. I liked Rome a lot, but it didn't dislodge my favorite European cities: Paris, Prague, Tbilisi, Lyon and now Palermo.(I loved Palermo!) Rome seemed so dedicated to tourism that I couldn't crack it, the way I long ago did for Paris. Yes I saw the big sites. (Trevi Fountain should be renamed Selfie Fountain these days. But the Pantheon was incredible.) My favorite aspect of Rome was hunting down Bernini statues in out of the way churches. That brought things to life for me in much less touristic environments. And oh my the pizza I found while doing that! Walking! Yes. So much that I was glad to take an excruciatingly slow bus back to the Vatican area where my inexpensive hotel was located. The slow bus ride gave me a much needed break.I wish I had seen this then! Obviously this is the beginning of a new series. More please!
We were there 1st week of Sep. 18 and we absolutely loved it, everyone speaks English and people were friendly. I avoided public transportation all together and only moved around in Uber. For 10-12 euro it's not worth it to risk being pick pocketed that can ruin your vacation. ✌😉
Just adding a point about pick pocketing. I was "crowd crushed" whilst getting on a bus. And then I realised my back pack was wide open. I'm fanatical about making sure it's closed properly so I believe it was definitely a pick pocketing attempt.
The catacombs are awesome! I'd definitely recommend seeing at least one of them! Also the Scavi tour, where you go under St Peter's Basilica and walk through the ancient necropolis upon which the Vatican is built (but you do need to book months in advance!)
Thanks Mark. I can not wait to go back to Roma .. next week. I presume it is even better now ( coronavirus-few people)’we just came back from Venice and it was marvelous, just few people , super clean. Just lovely. I love Italy 🇮🇹❤️🙏🏻
We just got back a couple weeks ago. We did AIRBNB for all our stays in Italy. So much better than hotels! You go more of the local experience. Love from Seattle!
I was just there back in june... rome was amazing. We also stayed near termini station. The hotel we stayed at was called Princeps Boutique hotel. It was a great stay and the hotel was really nice breakfast was really good too. I recommend everyone to stay at that hotel.
Thank you for sharing such helpful tips. I truly appreciate it. I LOVE Rome, Italy and will definitely be visiting hopefully in the very near future. Fascinated with Rome since 14 years old. The architecture/arts are AMAZING. I would like to know if there are any Vegan restaurants. Any other tips will be greatly appreciated. I look forward to any other videos that you would like to share about this BEAUTIFUL ancient/historical city . Again, THANK YOU. May God continue to BLESS YOU ABUNDANTLY! God bless!
We went to Rome last year in August and made it our home base in April for visits to Florence and Venice. I can offer two additional tips. One, do not skip the opportunity to go inside a church and I mean any church. Trust me, just go in. It's almost always free (some might charge a few euro) and you will see art worthy of the best museums. Secondly, if you go in the second half of August you should know that many, many Romans take vacation the second half of August. It wasn't a huge burden for us but we did miss out on some local restaurants that we wanted to visit because the owners were on vacation. The other thing to consider if you go in August and you visit the coast is it will be ccroowwdded. I mean it. Everyone is on vacation. Everyone goes to the coast. Again, not a huge deal for us as we hadn't planned a day at the beach but we did visit Amalfi and it was hard getting around.
So many good tips that you have in here that I take in and I love watching the background footage that you have I think I’ve watch this video three times.
I loved Rome. As far as walking, be prepared to go up and down tons of hills. The city is very hilly. All of the food I had there was very good and very cheap. A starter, main course, dessert, liter of house wine and bottle of sparkling water was cheaper than a main course and beer at Applebee's. I think I had carbonara 5 times. Lastly with pickpockets, watch out for organized groups. I saw a group of young pickpockets near termini. One of them had a mini pig. If you stopped to look at it, the others would circle behind you and try to get into your bag. They were professionals. Overall, Rome is my favorite city in Europe. Great video. All the info in here is accurate.
If you need to eat early and want to avoid tourist traps, look for places near offices. We had one of our best meals in one that advertised a happy hour in Italian.
Go to the Basillica di S. Giovanni in Laterano. I've lived here for 4 years and it is my favourite church in all of Italy. Dont forget the Knights of Malta keyhole. Go on a very clear day :)
> FCO / CIA airports and deets for going into town > hostel near DT > 1 hr train to naples > visa mastercard only > many pickpockets and bag snatchers > RR hours are different
You forgot to mention the wedding cake (il Vittorio) that was over your right shoulder. If you go around the back of the building there is a glass elevator that takes you to the roof and there are amazing views of Rome.
I truly enjoy watching your videos!! Thank you for giving so much useful information! 👍👍Visited Roma this June. Amazing city! Cannot wait to come back again.
Love the video Mark! We went to Rome on our Honeymoon because we both love history so much and your video really helped us before we travelled so thank you for that. Just a quick question, what do you use for film and audio? Your videos are always such good quality 👍😁
hey! thank you so much, I´m gonna travel to Rome next week and this is very helpful. great video, good explanation and you are really funny guy i love your video
Went with the family in September! Loved Italy....missing it and cant wait to go back someday. Atleast I can relive through these videos lol... Coliseum tour was awesome. Vatican also was spectacular. We didn't get to see much else in Rome ( we went north to Orvieto, Florence and Venice) but we have plenty of reasons to return... ciao!
Glad you mentioned the city tax on hotels... that one had me very suspicious upon checking out of our first hotel. “Wait a second, your telling me I gotta pay you more $$ for a ‘tax’ and it has to be in cash!?” Lol.
More likely to get ripped off by the local taxi then pick pockets. They will charge you “extra” for credit cards or not run the meter at all and make up the amount they want to charge you. Beware, 3 out of 5 taxis did this to us. Such a beautiful city ruined by dirty taxi drivers, hurts the honest hard working locals.
I have been ripped off by taxis in many countries. Try to get them to agree to a price up front before you get in or use public transit. Many cities have additional licensing fees for Uber so it can be quite expensive.
OMG Mark, you are very lucky with your timing, Trevi Fountain was dry as a bone under maintenance between 24-27 September, which was the entire time I was in Rome. No words could have described my disappointment!
The wind wound wasn't bad and you know I can be a stickler when it comes to sound. Thanks for using the covers. The digging was a bit too much so thanks for waiting until that was done.
I went on a bus tour in Italy in 2014. Everything was taken care of with the tour company which helped a lot. To avoid pickpockets I had a fanny pack type belt which I wore under my top and kept hidden under my clothes. All I had in it was my credit/debit cards, a little bit of cash and my passport. I had a camera as well which I kept it on a strap across my body and held it in front of me or hid under my jacket. The forum is a definite MUST- SEE. Unfortunately, the Trevi Fountain was under construction and very crowded when I was there and so that was disappointing.
Great content as always Mark. I'm a big fan of your channel and planning a trip to either Rome or Paris (still trying to decide) for this year . Is May a good time visit Rome? I'm concerned about the weather. I would like to go when the weather is pleasant.
We go back for our second visit in a few weeks. I'm so excited to see Trastevere and other parts of the city that I missed the first time. I always enjoy your videos. Keep them coming. Also, several people mention a great place to eat near the Pantheon...any idea what it is?
Hi I’m from Rome Pasta alla carbonara Pasta all’amatriciana Pasta cacio e pepe Pasta alla gricia Pizza Trippa Saltimbocca Gelato Don’t go to places where there’s a guy telling you to come in or places with a cartel outside of the restaurant because probably they’ll give you fake Roman dishes adapted for tourists
Little curiosity:The romans fountains of free water in roman dialect is called “nasone” it’s like “big nose”. There is a lot of this arount center and not.
Mr. Mark you are best explorer ...great going mate...Ur tips really help literally while travelling..this is my first comment on your blog as following you since 3yrs...Will meet you soon!
Thank you for your channel. We're heading to Rome for Christmas. Our big splurge will more than likely be our Christmas meal. Question(s) on restaurants (1) How soon do I make reservations for Christmas dinner (do you have any restaurant recommendations? We're a family of 4 -- 2 boys, 14 & 10-- not ridiculously picky and very comfortable with overseas travel) (2) Can we share plates? I've been to Italy before with the military, but that was YEARS ago & in Puglia (and before kids LOL )
The best 3 tips we got from our cruise operators:

Day 3/5 in Rome, Italy and thanks for the videos. Last year was Greece and you helped out and this year you’ve done it again 🙌🏾
I’ve been to Rome twice and I’ve always been finding things that I love more about the city! It’s so gorgeous. The history is also amazing
Same with me. it's amazing how many new things you can find each time you go

The Anadromous Life I did a degree in Italian Lit and lived there a year...you obviously really know your Rome. Kudos and see you out there.
I'm from Palermo i'm glad you loved my city!

Thanks Grace! Have a great trip!
I was in Rome in July. Bring 2 pairs of super comfy shoes as you will do a lot of walking.

Thank you for giving ideas on ROME. I am planning to travel there for pleasure:)

I got a great AirBnB near the vatican for 30 euro a night, but it was in the winter. You can find budget places if you look!
I'm going to be in Rome on Friday can't wait
Went with the family in September! Loved Italy....missing it and cant wait to go back someday. Atleast I can relive through these videos lol... Coliseum tour was awesome. Vatican also was spectacular. We didn't get to see much else in Rome ( we went north to Orvieto, Florence and Venice) but we have plenty of reasons to return... ciao!
I will be going to Rome on the 24th of october. I am going for Venice mainly; but I will definitely explor rome

Am so excited watching this video thanks for making me like this love you 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Glad you mentioned the city tax on hotels... that one had me very suspicious upon checking out of our first hotel. “Wait a second, your telling me I gotta pay you more $$ for a ‘tax’ and it has to be in cash!?” Lol.

Beware, 3 out of 5 taxis did this to us. Such a beautiful city ruined by dirty taxi drivers, hurts the honest hard working locals.
Is Uber an option?
Maria Rangel only Uber black which is a little more expensive. Use public transit
Download mytaxi thank me later 💖 I used that in Rome and it was great
@@mrangel3678 uber is a 6000$ fine but i used one anyway and a mercedes picked me up lol
I have been ripped off by taxis in many countries. Try to get them to agree to a price up front before you get in or use public transit. Many cities have additional licensing fees for Uber so it can be quite expensive.
I'm going to rome and Venice in September, should be amazinv
Smokey the g for sure, you’ll love them. Pay attention to touristic places where quality is low and prices are high.
Awesome! Was there in late August. Aer Lingus was a nice ride, SAS was top notch in summer 2017. Did Venice, Florence & Rome both trips.
Great video Mark keep up the good work your not far off the 500.000
Thanks Tom!
Going to Rome next year ❤️
Fab video, thanks. Im off to Rome in December. first time cant wait!!
OMG Mark, you are very lucky with your timing, Trevi Fountain was dry as a bone under maintenance between 24-27 September, which was the entire time I was in Rome. No words could have described my disappointment!
Do dress conservatively to go to churches and the Vatican, they have a dress code
Thank you for the great information Mark :-) I am going there in November....Happy days...:-)
Thanks Steve

La Fontana di Trevi è stata costruita nel 1700, quindi era in restauro!
Great content as always Mark. I'm a big fan of your channel and planning a trip to either Rome or Paris (still trying to decide) for this year . Is May a good time visit Rome? I'm concerned about the weather. I would like to go when the weather is pleasant.
Thanks Mark, always useful information. Rome looks fantastic.
Thank you
He seems to be such a great guy!
Wonderful, time to enjoy watching. Let's keep in touch

We go back for our second visit in a few weeks. I'm so excited to see Trastevere and other parts of the city that I missed the first time. I always enjoy your videos. Keep them coming. Also, several people mention a great place to eat near the Pantheon...any idea what it is?

Don’t go to places where there’s a guy telling you to come in or places with a cartel outside of the restaurant because probably they’ll give you fake Roman dishes adapted for tourists

Little curiosity:The romans fountains of free water in roman dialect is called “nasone” it’s like “big nose”. There is a lot of this arount center and not.

Great video Mark! How about a video on your favorite places to eat , near the pantheon area and other commonly visited areas...thanks!!
My favorite city on the planet
thanks for the video - great tips
Very nice... thanks for this.
