    I know this has nothing to do with the video, but your accent is one of the best accents in the world. You honestly sound like a Stark of Winterfell!

    This was so well explained, there a lot of thinking that actually goes into this I’m quite surprised

    Great video! Stupid question, when I put a padlock in, I’m still able to open the latch :/, how do you padlock this latch? Thanks!

    Alignment keeps going out due to weather for this bolt. What’s the permanent solution to this?

    I have wondered what the benefit of fitting a padlock to these bolts is if you can simply unscrew the whole brenton bolt from the gate, but I guess that makes noise. Fitting the bolt at the top does make it easier to open from the outside if it's not locked, my landlord insisted on this in my old place for easy access for contractors, although I didn't like the idea of them just turning up unannonced!!

    Should the drill bit be for wood? How many mm do you drill into the frame? Which size and length screws have you used? DIY newbie here. Thank you!

    Great stuff.. here's a few problems I encounter on the days I get up and decide I fancy fitting a padbolt;
    1) 'line the padbolt up visually or use a combination square'. A what? I'll go for the visually option I think, 'works for me..
    2)"predrill" ? Sorry I only speak English what language is that?
    3)'If you're fitting bolts'. ??? Jesus screws is a big ask, don't push me.
    4)Where can I get a "receiver" about 3 inches wide 'cos my dodgy gate's bound to fall on its hinges somewhat. (Aren't gates supposed to slope inwards towards each other, isn't that how they have 'em these days?)
    5) 3.00 in; "it's also worth checking at this stage that the bolt of the padbolt does slide in and out of the receiver easy enough". Oh damn, what did I do wrong?..
    6) I forgot the bit of red tape on the drill bit and the back of the gate's a mess, ahghhhhh...
    7)"It can rattle in the wind...it can be quite annoying.." 'Wife says she likes it like that, she can hear when I get home late and sneak in round the back.
    8) 'Give the receiver a belt with a hammer'.. sounds good to me.
    9)'Chisel out the timber so ytou sink the receiver in..' Do you think I've got all bl**dy day?
    10)I'm sure this gate will stand up to a few more screw holes.
    11)Where's the caulk? (I don't think it was an expensive gate anyway).
    12)I'll stick to changing lightbulbs ;)

    My question is how do you lock them as it seems a padlock don't prevent the bolt sliding horizontal to slide open?

    • @GatesExpectations
      @GatesExpectations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The padlock once locked, stops the hooked handle of the bolt from lifting.

    Easy way to stop a slack fit in the receiver, is simply to wrap a good few turns of insulation tape round the bolt, till you get a snug fit, if this wears over time, it only takes a few minutes to replace the tape,,

    How would i reduce the rattle if i got a concrete post to receive the bolt? Would it be feasible to cut out on the main bolt side?

    I have found that a padlock won't work to lock these bolts because of the big gap on the hook if that makes sense. Has anyone else tried locking one please?

    • @82ashman

      I have this issue too

    • @GatesExpectations
      @GatesExpectations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're using a padbolt, then once the bolt is closed and the hook end is pushed down then putting a padlock through the hole will then stop the handle from being lifted.

    For the life of me I don’t know why they don’t make the receivers twice as long, so the bolt fits through the changing seasons.
