    NOTE: You can get away with NOT removing the entire TB from the intake. In fact, just unplug it, take off the air vacuum hose, the air tube and the 4-bolts hold the TB into place, AND LEAVE THE TWO ANTIFREEZE HOSES IN PLACE, you don't need to remove them. When you pull off the TB just tilt it from one side to the other and clean both sides thoroughly - Done. After I cleaned mine this last weekend it ran good but not great, UNTIL I unplugged both battery terminals and let them sit for a half hour, then reconnected, to re-set the car's computer back to factory. The car now has all of its zip back. NOTE: To really reset the car's computer back to factory you either need a $5,000 scan unit OR remove the battery cables and insert a 10-watt 1 ohm resister hooked between both the neg and pos battery cables (not the battery), let it sit for between 15-minutes and a half hour -- this will safely and slowly drain your system's sensors and allow the computer to reset back to factory, then reconnect the cables to the battery. DONE.

      Are you talking about resetting the idle after any time w/the battery unplugged? If so, you just need to start the car, let it warm to operating temp. Turn off, then turn key so battery is on but car isn't started, then turn off. Repeat this once more (twice total). Then start the car and w/in 5 minutes it calibrates the correct idling automatically.

    Coming from a German car to my 2013 Corolla S (Red Metallic…Gorgeous Color if I do say so myself.
    Working on this Corolla is stupid simple. It’s like a toy car. Perfect for teaching others and quick dissemble.
    I swear I can prob take more than half the car apart with a 10mm socket.

    Actually you can open the butterfly with your hand gently, and cleaning it with a shop towel soaked in TB cleaner, i did this in my toyota multiple times, also Toyota master mechanic did the same, you can see his youtube channel, "the car care nut" electronic Tb has a motor and a spring ,and once its disconnected it doesn't set a code, you get a high rpm after cleaning but the computer will set it to the right rpm after driving for a while.

    • @EnthusiastsGarage
      @EnthusiastsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it’s the same as a 2016. I did not open the butterfly because there’s a possibility you could knock it out of calibration if you do that. I cleaned it with the butterfly closed using a lot of that cleaner and a gentle scrub brush like an old toothbrush. After that it worked fine.

    • @EnthusiastsGarage
      @EnthusiastsGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ayleen Valencia It Hass to be almost completely cool because part of the cooling system goes through it so if it’s hot in the cooling system is still under pressure it will make more of a mess. If it’s a little warm still you should be OK just relieve the pressure out from the radiator.

  • @Cyclingmasterseller
    @Cyclingmasterseller 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Also, you can 'slowly' push the butterfly open without calibration worries (there is no computer on this Throttle body, unlike other Japanese models, Honda, etc.) because you do need to clean the outside of the butterfly edge -- best to do by taking this TB off the car, as this guy did. The butterfly is connected to an electronic powered gear, thus you must move it SLOWLY as to not strip or damage the gear in any way. opening the fly is the only true way to definitively and thoroughly clean this area properly -- done so by many Chief Toyota mechanics, SO DON'T WORRY, you'll be ok, I promise!

    My 2015 corolla has a delay in acceleration all the time, especially whenever I take off from a stop sign or red light. Toyota told me the car needed a new transmission which is a $7000 job lol. Another mechanic told me the transmission is fine but the fuel ratio is off. Could this be the culprit??

  • @StromBugSlayer
    @StromBugSlayer 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have a 2009 Pont Vibe which has the 1.8 Toyota engine (basically a Matrix). It sometimes stumbles/struggles on start - you don't need to keep cranking the starter, but it takes a second or two to really catch and then smooths out. The idle is sometimes just a little rough. Does that fit with the throttle body being the culprit, or the Mass Air Sensor maybe? Any other suspects? I sometimes hear the VVT gear rattle briefly when it struggles, but only then, and not at all when it starts without issue.

    I used carburetor cleaner in a metal brush to clean mines but they do a lot of scratches and I open the flap by hand manually so I can clean the entire thing when I put everything together. The car runs really really rough check engine light comes on the tracks, control light, and that VSA light or something like that comes on and all soldiers air coming out of my radiator when I remove the cap there’s likes steam and it’s running really rough. It’s spitting the water out of the radiator as well cause I’d be close the throttlebody, causing that

      1st clean the throttle body and inspect/replace engine air filter as those are cheap potential fixes and things that need to be done anyway. Two other very common problems are a bad Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF sensor) or a vacuum leak (extra air getting into your intake system).

    You can clean the butterfly plate/edges and wall by pushing it slowly with caution.i have done on a 2013 corolla every 6 months no check engine light problems.
