- The BTCC first raced at the Birmingham Superprix street track in 1989 and it did provide us fantastic racing especially with Murray Walker commentating!
The three-way scrap involves Andy Rouse, Tim Harvey and Lawrence Bristow. They used every inch of the track in order to overtake for the lead!
Thank you to the Autosport magazine for plugging this video clip!
This is what modern racing is sorely missing, proper drama and commentary
What a legendary brilliant racing that is! Thanks much for sharing!!
Late '80's to early '90's BTCC seires was amazing, same goes for the DTM series of the same era. The cars were a lot more exciting!
Absolutely brilliant racing, sad we dont have racing like that these days...
Great memorys of a great car , long live the Cossy!
im crazy when seeing the rs500 bumps little a while before entering the corners..thanx for posting this rare video..
Fantastic racing - I must watch the VHS i bought of this season!
JUST WOW!!!!! THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST PIECES OF TRACK RACING I'VE EVER SEEN! My God that is some pure talent right there on both drivers. Andy for attacking so closely and pulling off the pass (albeit a bit dirty) and the other for being able to hold him off for so long. I LOVE all that opposite lock so close to the barrier!
Classic Murray Walker at 5:15 - "Every one of the other nine rounds has been won by Rob Gravett or Andy Rouse... four to each of them"
Great racing! Thanks!
Cosworth rules
These were real touring cars rwd big boost they definitely sorted the men from the boys
Unlike the junk we get today
I believe it is because the roundabout is an opposite camber bend and there is a small yump just in the braking zone of the corner.
If cars went close beside the Armco then the left hand side of the car will be off the ground just like what Karl Jones did at the 1988 Birmingham Superprix or the F3000 cars as well.
So I think the barrier is there to encourage the cars to go wider into the corner but I never fully understood the purpose of the barrier though.
Anything is fantastic when Murray Walker commentating on it
There will be more Birmingham Superprix videos on the way. ;-)
the greatest car ever built, the rs500,i was 10 when these were racing, still just as impressive, still have a massive following, still all worth a min of £15000,i met tim harvey at the 2007 porsche carrera cup in which he races, i asked which is better the porker or the rs ? tim replied the rs. enough said, cheeRS
2litresierra and LanciaS4 are right, The racing in those days was definately better to watch. Murray Walker and manual boxes, proper TV coverage!
LMAO! "its like following a cube of steal made of armcoe!" Murray Walker is a ledge!
Amazing Action...
Is there still a race at Birmingham?
No but there is a sprint/hillclimb in Coventry on the ring road
Great battle and no contact. take note modern BTCC drivers.
@sparkygl0s
I assure you that it did run from 1986-1990.
that so ture,
i want to cry...
3:26 = MAGNIFIQUE !!!
cosworth power
i have driven a rallycross spec sierra (rs500 engine in a ford motorsport rally shell) it was stupidly fast! i had a bmw M3 evo try to overtake me on a section of dual carrageway.... no chance
yea its him. i think i'm right in saying that he commentated on btcc and f1 till f1 moved from bbc and he couldn't do both any more
I was buzzing watching that! i forgot how quick they used to be....i would rather watch paint dry than the modern day cars...old skool rules;)
When Birmingham city council was being run by real men.
I think im gona cry.
@sparkygl0s
Nah, it is cool. It is just that the Superprix didn't run long enough for people to remember that well you know!
Can u imagine andy rouse kaliber sierras x3 labbatts x3 gravett cartel x3 racing on this circuit....id watch it day in day out as this is as good as it will ever get. Touring cars are nothing compared to this!!!!!
Is it Murray Walker commenting?
The thing is, Aussies have outlawed Skyline too...
Racing like it should be.... unbreakable Rs 500. They had to outlaw it, or they would never have caught up with it. Go Ford!
totally agree. but its getting better now the S2000 regs have come in the bmw 320s and vectras are back along with alfa 156s, but there is stll the silly little civics, should be honda accourds instead.
Who's the speaker?
The legend Murray Walker
Classic
shame isnt it :(
im too young to have ever whitnessed it.
I'd have loved to see these things fly past in real life though. Same goes for group B
someone remind me why we don't have 550 bhp monsters in btcc anymore :0
What has our country come 2, 80s early 90s i so miss, Goverment Sucks
agreed..races these days are all too clinical..
ARSE TALKING GOING ON AGAIN!!!
great racing not like todays toures
They killed the BTCC when they changed from saloons to boy racer hot hatches.
gpfwestie what are you talking about? They banned non australian cars ie: sierras and skylines, because they walked all over the shitty falcons and commodores!
