Why is everyone so mad about building a sonic? It's a cheap car with a lot of potential without a ton of investment. Building a capable track sonic while retaining good streetability shouldn't cost more than 5k. The solution to all car builds is not "hurr get a mustang." Different strokes for different folks. Real car enthusiasts shouldn't disparage someone for building what they want.
The RS does have its perks. Will beat a lot off the line till fourth gear. With just a tune at 200hp. It is a fun car to drive. Betting a 370 off a line is fun.
I purchased the 2016 sonic RS in the same color just because I saw this video. I also got the factory upgraded turbo, Borla exhaust and lowering suspention.
For the nay sayers of tuning a small car here is a fact. Driving a fast car slow during your commute is not fun but driving a small car all out is way more fun likely you can still get fast enough to get in trouble but still when your at the pumps be smiling. Gotta love a little car like this, may consider trading my scion in for one of these with the expectation of having some tuning done. Looks like a fun project car. B spec race cars look to be fun affordable thrill
Just remember to wait 5mins before shutting off the engine to make the turbo last longer. I love Chevrolet Sonic. If Chevy still making it I would’ve bought my second sonic new instead of a 2024 trax

Where did you get the Brembo front and rear brake packages? Did you just piece it together? Also, is the car still running 5x105 bolt pattern on stock hubs? Wheel availability for this car is terrible, unless you live in Australia.
Brembo kit was sourced through Race Technologies Inc. It's a kit available for the Sonic. The car is running hub adapters that convert the stock 5x105 bolt pattern to 5x114.3 hence why the Volk wheels fit on the car.

So in the end just the transmission. I think the brembo's are 2k the anaconda is $500 I think, it might be higher than that I really don't remember. the MPFab intercooler kit is $800. the intake is around $300 and the tune from BNR $550. You can't buy the flares though :/ sorry If I'm a little late, but that's what it would cost to reproduce something like this today. Probably more though, I left out the roll cage, wheels, tires, seats, and harnesses because I have no idea how much they cost. In the website article though it says they installed water/methanol I was really hoping to get some numbers on that because that's what I wanna do to my Sonic.
I’ve got a 12’ 1.8 5 speed sedan with 200k on the ODO. Either I leave it stock with what I got now pushing 150 with some fuel additives and some other stuff I’ve done, or I go all out and build this thing. Idk, thoughts anyone?
It has more space for rear passengers and it looks sexier with those round headlights. I also personally think the rear window is more practical on the Sonic then on the Fiesta.

If you look at the new sticker price on the sonic RS it isn't very far from the fiesta ST. Why buy a Sonic RS and then stick money in it to get it where the fiesta ST all ready is? I am looking at both cars so I am wondering if I am missing something? I did find some used Sonic RS for between 13 and 16K at that price you could probably build the hell out of it and still be under the Ford fiesta price.
dude 40 horsepower? that's it? you could have easily gotten it up to a graceful 300hp and added one or two more body mods like oh idk a hatch spoiler for added down force... performance oriented my ass
+Brandon Ludy Sonic's on the stock turbo and engine reach their top end at around 200 hp, and 225 lbft of torque. Or around there. There is one Sonic to break 300hp and that's MPFab's Sonic, That was with a different turbo and I'm not sure what other mods. Either way the Sonic's intake manifold cracked if I remember correctly, so hopefully someone will make a metal intake manifold for the Sonic so we can push it further later on.

My 2013 RS is a way better track car than a strip car it handles very well around corners the most potential of this car is on the track ..although with the trifecta turbo advantage tune I beat civics and acuras at the local drag nights ...those rims are sick volk racing the flares all over e bay the front splitter too....

lee santos I use to own a 2013 Chevy sonic hatchback turbo Lt and it was a awesome car and yes they are easy to mod. I had a BNR tune, ZZP exhaust system, gods speed lowering springs, Injen Tuned intake and took out the high beam light to have a tube leading to the intake for more air flow. 0-60 came in the low 6’s
He must be mistaken about HP gain unless he left the cats and down pipe stock and just did a cat back ..and I noticed he answered no comments like many that post video if that's the case disable comments , it's a old build now but on my 2013 RS I have the trifecta turbo advantage tune it's made for a stock Sonic and no mods and they claim it dyno at + 44 Hp over stock so 145+44 189 HP could be I know it's night and day from the stock tune ....the tune was 299 best bang for the buck ...I had cold air intake zzp cat back sold all that happier with the turbo advantage tune I'm pushing 20 psi on my boost gauge at wot...
I don't think he's mistaken. He said turbo back exhaust, plus intake and tune and intercooler for power. The stock turbos can't hold boost at high RPM's unless you get a better wastegate, because no mater what you tune for, the stock wastegate leaks down to 17psi above 5500 rpm. to be honest, I don't think there is a single tune for the 1.4t motor that will get you more than 30hp. Maybe in combinations with other things (exhaust, new turbo, etc), but a tune alone won't make 44hp at the wheels. It will for sure be a night and day difference as you said, but just not that high.

Edith Taylor point blank this is a joke for this price you could buy a new v8 mustang or v8 camaro and have some real torque or even if you were more into the non muscle idea and wanted more tuner you could buy a new WRX for what it cost to buy and build this sonic... Keep in mind every one of the mentioned will spank this slow ass sonic on any track since the sonic even with an added 40hp will still only have just over 200hp not the over 300hp the WRX comes with or the over 400hp the camaro and mustang come with assuming you go with v8 and even if you went with the v6 your still over 300hp. if the sonic will ever be any thing close to a track car you will half to transplant a v6 in there or rip everything out of the engine that's in there and replace with stronger crank rods head bolts and a lot bigger turbo then you will still have the problem of traction witch all FWD cars suffer from and half to convert it to AWD witch is a hole new story of price tag. not saying the sonic is not a good MPG car with 0-40mph snort but that's all it has 40hp might give you a little more grun to 50 but after that for get it. it just does not have torque ( unless spraying so much you blow the engine ). let's face it the 4 banger that is in it will never see more than 250hp with out spending alot of money to get it there at witch point there are off the shelf cars that have more power to start with and are more track ready than this with all the upgrades in this video ( roll cage aside ). the funny idea that this guy thinks that you can really feel the torque out of the corner means he has never sat behind the wheel of a car with any thing close to real torque and ya it may have real nice brakes the the reality is the stock ones were just fine even with the bigger tire as they would still be able to lock up the tires with the stock booster and maybe after 10 laps the tires might be hot to enable you to get real grip to start to half to worry about needing more brake peddle.

I know, that's the point I was making. he put 20K into a 20K car totaling like 40K. You can just get a Subaru WRX or Challenger RT for that.
The non-turbo version is like 14K, but the Sonic RS Turbo is around 20K. So this is nuts and a waste of money.
Wish there were more LT builds. Kind of tired of seeing these rs builds with its terrible engine
