Gorgeous work. The only thing I would have done differently would be to polish the loose rust off and keep the patina. It would be a lot of hand work, but worth it for the effect. I do love the look of a well used tool.
Don't think it's a hatchet , looks like a bearded ax possibly a combat axe or a modern day duplicate of an old viking ax , the head is in remarkable shape ......

Sorry to say this, but that wedge is completely wrong. You already created a crack in the head of the handle on the right side
