    Aerosmith were the first (major) band I saw live. Steve doing backflips, Joe with his guitar slung low and hair blowing back from the on stage wind machines.
    I think people underestimate the importance of wind machines in guitar playing. They are an essential part of Joe Perry’s technique.

    Great vid. Your zepplin vids are spot on. I think if you tune to drop C# and virtual capo -5 instead it will sound exactly the same. Plus it allows you to play the opening riff on the D, G and B strings.

    • @SpedSpedding
      @SpedSpedding  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah that’s another way to do it. But for the average Joe (Perry) it’s probably easier to just sling it in Drop D and notch it down one more semitone.
      Surely we would have the exact same open strings though so I could play it your way the way I’m tuning it as well?

    Man that virtual capo is an amazing bit of kit.
    I absolutely loved that album and particularly that song.
    As an old, I remember shoving the 8 track (a form of media) into my "Craig Powerplay" and leaving it in (with a matchbook for good play) for many months, as was the custom of the time.
    We didn't have your fancy new fangled "streaming" or "virtual capos", we played our music by banging our guitars against rocks and ...we liked it!

    • @SpedSpedding
      @SpedSpedding  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Absolutely! It's truly mind-blowing what you can achieve nowadays with just the flick of a switch or the tap of a button. And hey, don't worry, I'm no spring chicken either, haha! It's funny you mention that; I was chatting with a patron before about how I used to record myself into my mum's karaoke machine using a mic and tape, then play it back to practice songwriting and jamming. Feels like ancient history now! I guess I'm basically a grandad in this digital age.

      Amazing time to be alive.
      Also, Toys in the Attic is the reason I bought that LP in the first place.
      Not Clapton, not Page, not even Hendrix...but Joe fking Perry.

    I was a professional musician in Boston during the ’70s and ’80s. I got to see them several times. I met Joe and Steven at different times.

      That's boss, how were they? And I have to ask, Boston the place or Boston the band?

      @@SpedSpedding I should have worded that better. I was part of the music scene in Boston during that time. I have met Tom Shultz from the band Boston. We had a rehearsal room two doors down from the Cars at the Cambridge Music Complex. That was around 1980-81. They were rehearsing songs for Panorama. I met Joe through Charlie Farren. Charlie was the second singer of the Joe Perry Project. Steven, I met through my cousin. Last night I sat next to Carmine Appice while at a Pat Travers show.

    Sped , is something goin on with your elbow? It looks like you have some sort of brace or compression over it. If so, I feel your pain. So many years using and abusing my muscles and tendons have a toll that will take, and it sucks. Hope I am wrong man.

      😂😂 I do appreciate the concern and I have suffered with RSI before, mainly from editing on top of playing and teaching. I manage it now with good diet and exercise etc. This is just a fancy frilly shirt from Killstar though. 💃🏻

      I think we’d all be skint if we could. Yeah I will make more content about the FM9. It’s ridiculously powerful and sounds incredible. It can do everything and more in a smaller footprint than my old pedalboard. Beast.

    I love how you show the Riff slower and it sounds ‘No that’s wrong’, Then up to speed and it comes alive, Love your lessons! AND yes it is why I subscribed.

      Haha, indeed! You might be surprised how often I find myself convincing students of this very principle. Mastering something slowly before picking up the pace is crucial for its delivery later on. As you rightly said, it truly comes alive, but only because I can play everything with conviction. I'm stoked to hear that you're loving the videos. Your support means a lot.
