I've discovered that this poem was written by Mathew Franklin Whittier, younger brother of poet John Greenleaf Whittier, from real-life circumstances, in December of 1841. You have taken a man's actual grief poem, describing his tortured faith crisis, and turned it into relaxation.

I've heard of several accusations against Poe, but hadn't heard of Matthew Whittier. Fascinating story!
