Im drinking red wine and smoking cigarettes in my flat in berlin, i can see the huge buildings of east berlin and the city lights. Lifes goes on so fast, im afraid to loose my partents especially my mother. This song is beatiful and sad at the same time, very melancholic.. Life is short, appreciate it...

A 12 and a half minute piece that hardly changes dynamically and has just a couple key changes, but still manages to take the listener on a captivating adventure melodically for the entire duration. Absolutely genius piece of music.

@Raccoon Technically you are correct. A song involves singing which includes what birds create. So instead of the Anglo-Saxon word "song" we shall henceforward use the word "music" (ME, OFr, L, Gr) instead. But it is mind blowing that Vangelis created this music and the music for Chariots of Fire in 1979 and 1981 respectively.

"Rêve" means "dream" in French, and this song is the kind of dream one never wants to wake up from. When it ends, it's like feeling the pain of birth into the cruel world again. "Opéra Sauvage" is definitely an underrated album, one of Vangelis's best of the best, and that's saying a lot! Last night I was on a flight departing from Anchorage, AK. It left at midnight so I planned on putting on some music and sleeping for the duration of the flight. I eventually nodded off, but I woke up at around 2:30 AM. I heard this song playing. I wasn’t sure where we were or how light it was outside, so I opened the window up to take a look. I was met with a view I’ll never forget. Down below, the snow capped mountains jutted up from the darkness of the land they towered over, barely illuminated by the newly blossoming sunrise. On the horizon, a beautiful blend of colors consumed the sky, but there was one color that stuck out so strongly from the oranges, reds, and yellows, turning that moment into one that I never want to forget. It was a soft shade of green. I don’t have a single clue as to why this shade of green was there, in a sunrise. But I will always cherish what I saw, reliving that moment through the beauty of this song. I can see the jagged peaks of the mountains through the high lead notes. I can see the vast, yet comforting, darkness of the land below through the soft bass. And I can see that mysterious, captivating shade of green through the ethereal, unexplainably beautiful feeling that this song embodies.

And how uncivilized we became in the process. It really is all quite ugly when one considers what we could have done with this place, how we could have lived and how we could have faded away at least learning a few lessons of humble understanding.

I have been listening to this masterpiece for ages, after discovering it when I was nineteen. In times of emotional turmoil it was always with me, comforting me or, in other moments, helping me to reflect, then again just making me smile. I can think of many beautiful pieces of music I would like people to hear at my funeral (which, hopefully, is still many years ahead), but 'Rêve' is just 'incontournable'. In a sense it has become the story of my life. Thank you, Vangelis.

This song.... the vibe it brings with it. It's hard to explain what I feel when I'm listening to 'Rêve'. All I can say is that it's dreamy, it reminds me of the streets of Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049. It feels transportive, it brings me to another state of mind. I never knew what rêve meant, so I looked it up. Rêve is French for dream. It's unbelievable that Vangelis captured the feeling of a dream in this song. This song is more than a song, it's an experience.

Vangelis begleitet mich schon seit so vielen Jahren.

there was a time when things seemed simple, and the world easy to understand. Those days are over now. The dream was broken, and the darkness of reality cast itself over the minds of men who once imagined a world beyond their own understanding. Now they are content with nothing, and yet seek out the things once easy to find that they can no longer discover. How the world has turned upside down from itself. How our souls burn. How our minds malaise. Now the question is: "Will I ever find freedom again?"

A beautiful music for a sad documentary Frederic Rossif's "Opera Sauvage" (1979).
Another documentary was "L'Apocalypse des Animaux" (1971)".
"Opera Sauvage" has music from "L'Apocalypse..." and from "La Fête Sauvage" (1976), another movie.
The musics of all movies was made by Vangelis and sadly never was realised, except this album.

I agree so much of his work in film score has been amazing over the years. The Bounty, Chariots of Fire, Blade Runner, & 1492 among his other soundtrack works, standout... Both French soundtracks "Opera Sauvage" (1979) and "L'Apocalypse des Animaux" (Which actually aired in 1970, but the Soundtrack wasn't released until 1973) are great works. Both of these have been released and out in various formats for decades. L'Apocalypse des Animaux" is also a compelling and expansive work that I have enjoyed having a copy since the early 90's. th-cam.com/video/oZGhQE3maiA/w-d-xo.html (Along with so many other of Vangelis' amazing albums)

Vangelis may be the greatest musician of all time-
nobody mastered the use of reverb quite the way he did, and after all of this, he invented a technical environment that allowed him to improvise completed, full-orchestral works off the top of his head. Music is mood, and nobody knew it like Vangelis. RIP.

      @laurab9867 5 ปีที่แล้ว

With all due respect, you're comparing apples and oranges. "Vangelis" is far more prolific and creative. His work is more diverse (clearly influenced by different cultures), which includes some amazing movie soundtracks.

in some respects you are correct...i do like Jarre' a great deal and have his Oxygene album along with many others... i even like Teo' and Tea even though it was very different than his previous works...the concert he preformed at the pyramids was also rather awesome... but i still prefer Vanjelis for his diversity and unique soundscape signatures that are present in most of his works..
